Rathlyn is the het ship between Rath and Lyn from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Lyn's tale[]
Lyn and Rath first meet at the Lycian city Araphen. Rath was working for the marquess of Araphen, while Lyn was traveling to Caelin to meet a grandfather she just learned she had. Lyn arrives in Araphen where the marquess has agreed to help her, but before they can meet him an assassin sent by Lyn's selfish granduncle Lundgren attacks her. Rath saves her and surmises that she's a Sacaen plainswoman, which she affirms. He introduces himself as Rath of the Kutolah (a Sacaean tribe). They team up to save the marquess and the city. After defeating Lundgren's men, Lyn finally meets the marquess, but he refuses to help her because of her lineage. Angry, she tells him off and walks away, followed soon after by Rath as he finally becomes sick of the marquess's racist ways.
Rath travels with Lyn to Caelin, where Lundgren is defeated and Lyn is reunited with her grandfather. Rath slips out unseen during the celebrations.
Eliwood/Hector's tale[]
One year later, Lyn joins up with Eliwood and Hector to stop the evil druid Nergal. Rath has become a mercenary and was hired by the of House Ostia, which is how he and Lyn meet again. Lyn asks him to join their army, and he accepts.
During the adventure, Rath and Lyn can support. In their first one, Lyns ask to Rath if all the member of the Kutolah tribe are as quiet as him. He doesn't wish to talk about it, saying there's no need for words. In their second support, Lyn is worried for her grandfather after he was nearly killed by the Black Fang. She asks Rath why he doesn't want to talk about his tribe, and he tells her he hasn't seen them when in fifteen years. In their third support, he explains that the tribe diviner predicted that Rath, as the chieftain's son, had to leave to prevent disaster. He was four years old and suffered great loneliness being sent away, and Lyn can relate to the experience of being alone after the death of her own tribe. She asks to stay with him.
After the story, if Rath and Lyn have A level support Lyn will ask to Hector to take Caelin under his protection after her grandfather's death. She'll return to the plains, be reunited with Rath, and they'll have a daughter named Sue.
Fanon[]
Rathlyn is the only canon option for Rath. On A03, it's the second most popular pairing for Rath (behind Rath/Wil). It has only 7 works on A03 and it's one of the least popular pairing for Lyn on the website. However, it's very popular among fanartists, especially Japanese fanartists.
Due to the game system of multiple canon endings, the Rathlyn shipper has some friction with Elilyn, Hectorlyn, Lyn x Kent and sometimes Florilyn shippers. The Rathlyn shippers argue that their pairing is "more canon" due to the existence of Sue, but others argue that Rath could just as easily marry someone else. Kent/Lyn shippers especially argue that Rath is too cold and indifferent to Lyn, feeling the supports are more about him than her, while Rath/Lyn fans believe the supports are good character development for them both.
There was some friction from Rathwil shippers in the early aughts; while the pairing factions did not fight, Rathwil shippers often sulked when other fans claimed Lyn as Sue's canon mother and their disappointment reflected in their fanworks. It was rare, though, with most Rathwil shippers tolerating Rathlyn and shippers preferring to focus on their own works.
Many fan works often show Lyn and Rath in Sacae, sometimes with Sue or with Rath's father Dayan. Fanart often depicts Lyn as her class promotion with a bow, with her and Rath on horseback or lying in the grass. Some of the fans of this pairing also ship Roy/Sue since both pairings involve a lord and a nomad.
Since Sue is an orphan in FE6 and Sacae has been overtaken by Bern, it's believed that Rath and Lyn died between FE7 and FE6.
