Reed900 is the non-binary ship between Gavin Reed and Connor (RK900) from the Detroit: Become Human fandom.

Canon[]

Gavin and RK900 have never interacted in-game. Gavin only met the RK800 Connor, who he hated, and threatened to kill (and even can successfully kill at one point). RK900 only appears in the game once overall, in a post-credits scene after one outcome of the game.

RK900 never speaks during his appearance in the game, so it is hard to say how his personality would compare to Gavin's. However, we know that RK900 is the faster, more efficient and resilient, and overall improved version of the RK800. Throughout the scene, he seems emotionless and tough, so some people have deduced that he'd a colder, no-nonsense version of Connor, which was sort of confirmed by the developers in a Twitch stream, where they said RK900 was meant to be an "evil Connor", not likeable and sweet like RK800 Connor can be, but intimidating and scary instead (or at least, that's the instructions they gave to his actor, who also portrays the RK800, when he was meant to portray him). Some people would deem those traits as similar in a way to Gavin's - Gavin is described as a ruthlessly ambitious and arrogant person who will step on anyone's toes if it means advancing his career.

Fanon[]

On AO3, Reed900 is the second most written ship in the Detroit: Become Human fandom, being the most written ship for both Gavin and RK900.

Some people in the fandom to this day plain don't get why this ship is so popular. It is said that it started as a crackship, but got more popular overtime. People suggest that their potential dynamic of buddy cops who fall in love is something people enjoy, but not everyone wants it in Hannor, as a lot of people prefer viewing that relationship as father-and-son-like. Another part of Reed900's appeal is that both characters can work as blank slates, to a degree. Gavin does have a canon personality, but it's not too extensive, and there is space to build up on it however a fan wants to. RK900 never speaks, and the only records about what his personality might be like come from assumptions based on body language and a Twitch stream, making him almost completely a blank slate character.

Another appeal of this ship might be in that fans would find the idea of Gavin dating an android he hated interesting, but they feel like there is too much bad blood between Gavin and Connor by the end of the story for Convin to work, but RK900 comes without this baggage on his relationship with Gavin.

Due to the lack of interaction between Gavin and RK900 and their not too developed canon personalities, Reed900 is nearly entirely built by fanon, and thus can be written in numerous different ways. However, there are pieces of near-universally agreed-on fanon that the fans of the ship created. There's some notable collective headcanons regarding Gavin. He is often shown as a coffee addict and a smoker who loves cats. The first trait is likely inspired by one in-game scene where Gavin orders Connor to get him a coffee, but the other two aren't implied by the game in any way. With RK900, the most notable fanon is probably his name. While his name in canon, according to the developers, would be Connor, that is the name of his predecessor. Since said predecessor is one of the game's protagonists, it was felt by many that RK900 needed a different name. Gradually, the majority of the fandom started using the name "Nines" for him. Other popular names for him are Richard or Niles (the latter derived from Nines, people opting for a normal name that sounds similar instead. It tends to be used in human AUs).

Probably the most popular approach to the ship is writing it from an enemies-to-lovers angle. Gavin hates androids in general, and especially hates Connor, who RK900 is nearly identical to (with the exception of his clothing and eye color). Based on those facts, people assume Gavin would hate RK900 as well at the start. RK900 coming to work at Detroit Police Department after a successful android revolution and getting assigned as a partner to Gavin is a popular premise for Reed900 fanfiction. Such fanfics usually have the two hate each other at first but later develop feelings, with Gavin changing his mind on androids meanwhile. Some people think that a strict, firm android that wouldn't ever let Gavin step over him, would be the kind of android that would make Gavin reconsider his stances on androids.

Some people don't go for the enemies-to-lovers trope, though, instead thinking that Gavin and RK900 would get along easy due to having similar personalities. Such people might not have them overcome any negative traits the two tend to have (such as RK900's coldness, or Gavin's generally mean attitude) and might present them as a (sort-of-)evil power couple.

The popularity of Reed900 got so big that it inspired fan-made films. An independent film company Octopunk Media made two fan films for Detroit: Become Human focusing on the Reed900 ship, Detroit Evolution', and its sequel Detroit Reawakening. In the YouTube description of the latter, the company describes the relationship between Gavin and RK900 in their movies as a gay asexual romance.

Some people, however, oppose Reed900 strongly. Some mainly because they don't feel the ship makes any sense, some because they don't like the idea of Gavin, who has a very strong hate towards androids in canon getting together with someone of the kind he wanted to oppress, and others just dislike the popularity of these two characters overall, feeling they don't deserve it.
