Rohn is the slash ship between Robin Hood and Little John from the Robin Hood fandoms.

Canon[]

Little John has been one of the first companions of Robin in the ballads and is most commonly depicted as fiercly loyal to him. The origin story later given to him had him confront Robin at a bridge, trying to prevent him from crossing it. Robin challenges him to a duel with quarterstaves and loses, but John was nonetheless impressed enough by Robin's skill and bravery that he agreed to join him and found what would later be known as the Merry Men with him. Some movie adaptations changed this to have John lose so that Robin would look more heroic. Since Robin refers to him as "Little John" from that point onwards, an ironic comment since John was a 7ft tall behemoth of a man, it is often interpreted that Robin was the one who gave him the nickname that he is most commonly referred as.

In the ballads, it is tradition that John is the only Merry Men present at Robin Hood's death.

Robin Hood (1973)[]

The movie begins with Robin and John happily strolling through Sherwood Forest, only to be attacked by the Sheriff of Nottingham and his archers. Making it to safety by hiding out in a tree, John ponders whether their profession isn't too dangerous after seeing that Robin has an arrow stuck in his head. After Robin reassures him, John asks him if they are good guys or bad guys, to which Robin replies that they are only stealing from to rich to give it to the poor. When John complains about Robin's use of the word "stealing", Robin corrects it as "borrowing", to which John half-jokingly replies that they racked up quite a debt.

Upon seeing a solid golden carriage drive by, guarded by a few dozen rhinos, Robin deduces that Prince John is back and immediately makes plans to rob him. Little John tells Robin that robbing royalty is against the law, but Robin convinces him by planning to disguise themselves as beggar women. As Robin distracts Prince John by pretending to read his fortune to him, with Little John providing the effects, he manages to rob the prince right under his nose, only his snake servant becoming suspicious of them. After successfully fooling Prince John with his glowing "crystal ball" effect, Little John notices a chest filled with gold and that the carriages have solid gold hubcaps on their wheels and decides to steal them. This ends up serving them when Prince John gives chase, as the wheels and later the entire carriage fall apart without the hubcaps.

Later, Little John orders Robin to cook some grub for them while he relaxes. But Robin being lost in thought over his beloved Maid Marian made him overcook the food, causing John to scold him for it. Robin doesn't care much about the food being completely black and asks John whether he thinks that Robin would be a good fit for Marian as an outlaw. Little John snarks at him that he should try to impress her with anything but his cooking abilities as he's desperately trying to salvage the ruined meal. Friar Tuck then interrupts their chatting to tell them the good news of an archery tournament being set up, with the winner earning a kiss from the lovely Marian. John is confident that his best friend could win that while standing on his head, but also expresses concern that Robin would be caught by the guards if he just wandered into the tournament like that. Robin brushes away his concern, already having a plan in mind.

So they show up at the tournament, Robin disguised as a stork to enter the tournament while John is disguised as a duke to make sure that Prince John doesn't scheme. The tournament seems to go well, with Robin winning with every challenge. But once Robin wins fairly, Prince John orders him to be executed immediately. Despite brushing off Maid Marian's pleas to spare him, Prince John suddenly changes his mind when Little John sneaks backstage and whispers that he should release Robin immediately while holding the point of his knife against his back. Robin is freed and all seems well, but the Sheriff of Nottingham discovers Little John and nearly hits him with his sword. A fight breaks out with Robin and John managing to escape alongside Maid Marian and her Lady Kluck.

Back in Sherwood Forest, Little John allows the two lovebirds to have a moment, but when Robin brings Marian to his hideout, Little John and their friends surprise then with a celebration. Celebrating Robin's recent engagement with Marian, Little John collaborates with Allan-a-Dale to write a song called "The Phony King of England", mocking Prince John. The song becomes a huge hit in Nottingham, which enrages Prince John so much that he overtaxes the citizens more than ever before, meaning that Little John incidentally caused more needless suffering for the people of Nottingham and Robin by extension.

When Robin and John hear about their friend Friar Tuck being imprisoned and sentenced to be hanged for rightfully attacking the Sheriff of Nottingham, they improvise a jailbreak on the spot. First they capture one of the Sheriff's lackeys and have Robin disguise as him to steal the jail keys from the dozing Sheriff. Then Robin sneaks Little John into the jail, giving him the key to free all the prisoners. While John does so, Robin and the freed prisoners work together to steal the entirety of Prince John's tax money. Though when the Prince's lackeys catch on to it, they fire arrows at the sacks of coins Robin is bungling down to the citizens, causing some coins to rain on the Sheriff's head and wake him up. Before the Sheriff could say anything, Little John knocks him out and steals his clothes to impersonate him, then taking a carriage to save all the freed citizens by bringing them to Sherwood Forest. Robin however ends up trapped in the castle as he's cornered by a fire Prince John started in his fury, with the Sheriff of Nottingham chasing him up a burning tower. Little John watches alonside a Nottingham boy named Skippy as his best friend plummets into the river for safety, with Prince John's soldiers managing to shoot his hat, having it float to the surface with an arrow straight through it. John and Skippy watch intendly as they wait for Robin to come out of the water, but he takes longer then expected and John starts crying as he thinks his best friend had just died, to heartbroken himself to comfort Skippy holding onto hope that Robin had escaped. However, Robin managed to grab a reed to allow himself to breath underwater and John is overjoyed at seeing his best friend alive nevertheless.

Upon King Richard's return, Prince John is arrested and Robin and Little John are pardoned. As Robin Hood marries Maid Marian, Little John drives their carriage to their honeymoon, allowing little Skippy to accompany them as he promised to keep an eye on their children.
