Ronlars is the slash ship between Ronaldo Fryman and Lars Barriga from the Steven Universe fandom.

Canon

Lars and Ronaldo had been friends before the beginning of the series, but neither of them seem interested in rekindling that friendship in the present.

Season 1

Lars first comments on Ronaldo in the episode "Horror Club", where Steven informs him in the after hours of his shift at the Big Donut of Ronaldo throwing a horror movie party and asks him if he wanted to join them. Lars calls Ronaldo a "social napalm" and dismisses the party of having something better to do than "wax weird with Big City's biggest bozo". However, Lars quickly finds out that Steven was actually just coming by to pick Sadie up as they wanted to go to the party together. Just as Sadie and Steven were aiming to leave after telling Lars goodnight, Lars asks them where the party is located, Steven points at the abandoned lighthouse.

As the group arrive at the lighthouse, Ronaldo welcomes Steven in costume to his "Horror Club", but Lars snarks that it looks more like a comedy club. Ronaldo is distraught at seeing Lars again, to the point where he drops his mask and breaks it in shock, but quickly regains composure and invites the three of them inside. Lars snarks to Sadie that he's "already scared" while laughing, but Sadie approaches Ronaldo and introduces herself to him in a friendly way. This clearly doesn't sit right with Lars, so he startles Ronaldo while entering the lighthouse. Ronaldo takes Steven aside as he's the last one to enter, asking him if he's friends with Lars, Steven naively asks him who isn't friends with Lars, visibly causing Ronaldo a lot of distress.

As Ronaldo is ready to prepare the first movie clearly hoping everyone already knows and likes it, Lars loudly comments that he has already seen it, but finds it boring and not scary at all. Ronaldo picking up on Lars finding the CG effects unconvincing has him deride Lars in turn for judging a classic by its remake, while simultaneously framing himself as a "true fan". As they are in the middle of the movie, the power suddenly goes out, causing Lars to complain that he was just starting to enjoy it. As Sadie asks what caused the blackout, Lars guesses it was just a fuse, but Ronaldo stays in-character and speculates that it may have been a ghost. Sadie is laughing it off, but Ronaldo is actually serious and tries to look for the ghost with a nearby pendulum, but Lars tells him to stop being weird. As Sadie and Steven play along with Ronaldo's ghost story, the pendulum suddenly starts acting on its own and flings out of Ronaldo's hand right into Lars' face. As Ronaldo asked for a sign of the ghost, things in the room suddenly started flying all around, threatening to injure the group. As a cup of coffee nearly hits Lars once more, Sadie saves him and suggests that they should just get out of there. As they all run towards the door, it suddenly slams shut and won't open, so they all work together to burst through it and succeed in escaping the lantern room, but are still trapped in the lighthouse.

Just as the door put itself back together behind them, Ronaldo sincerely apologizes for getting them into this, he wouldn't have held the party here if he had known the ghost could be this violent. Steven accepts his apology, but Lars furiously denies that it's a ghost, but Sadie distracts him by telling him that it doesn't matter, they should just go. As they descend down the stairs, Ronaldo starts to compliment Sadie for how quickly she acted and invites her to investigate the phenomenon with him once Steven and Lars are safe, Lars overhears this and doesn't like how Sadie seems to enjoy Ronaldo's company. As Steven asks him what's wrong, Lars covers Steven's mouth to prevent them from finding out how he feels. As strange noises that sound like children laughing surround them, Lars denies that any of the things they are witnessing right now are real and tries to run towards the door, only for it to open and slam him in the face. As Sadie and Ronaldo manage to force the door closed the moment they notice that Ronaldo's decorations have come to life and are trying to break in, the few decorations that managed to slip through seem to be only attacking Lars, with Steven managing to fight those off. Ronaldo, upon Sadie asking him if hauntings are usually this bad, deduces that it's a poltergeist targeting the emotionally distubed while holding his flashlight at Lars. Lars however snaps at Ronaldo and accuses him of staging the whole thing, in frustration he asks them if they genuinely believe a thing he's saying. As Steven tries to mediate and tells Lars that he should stop being a jerk to Ronaldo, Lars tells Sadie that she's smart and asks her if she believes Ronaldo. Sadie however angrily denies Lars' request to ditch them after he accused both of them of setting him up, leading to Lars asking her if she includes him when she said that she's not going to ditch "anyone".

Before Sadie could answer, the floor starts to open beneath her, leading to her falling into a red abyss before Lars could save her as the floor closed up before he could reach her. Ronaldo accuses Lars of being willing to sacrifice all of them to save his own skin, but then they notice the hatch towards the basement opening on its own. All three of them silently agree that they got to save Sadie from whatever took her, descending towards the basement, they can't see Sadie anywhere but Steven claims he can feel the "Spirit" nearby, noting that it seems to be in pain. As they hear a pulsating noise, Ronaldo holds his flashlight towards the wall it came from, noticing a vein-like growth with Lars' name carved into it. Lars is uncomfortable, not helped by Ronaldo accusing him from being at fault for Sadie being abducted, Lars "should've" been the one suffering her fate right now. As the Spirit is clearly saying Lars' name, Ronaldo takes that as a sign, being willing to sacrifice Lars by throwing him into the mouthlike growth in exchange for Sadie. Lars tries to reason with Ronaldo, saying they used to be best friends, but Ronaldo rationalizes what he's doing by saying that Lars also threw him away. As Lars ends up in the mouth, Steven rushes to save him, even after Ronaldo claims that "he's not worth it". Ronaldo helplessly watches Steven and Lars almost get crushed by the Spirit's teeth, but Steven summons his bubble shield at the right time and expands the mouth to its limit, killing it. As Steven and Lars roll to safety, they notice Sadie groaning and eventually managing to emerge from the rubble the monster left behind herself. As the group finds a gemstone in the bubble, Steven realizes that the "Spirit" was a corrupted Gem the whole time. As Steven holds it for them to see, the Gem starts to glow and project a recording of two young boys who were at the exact same spot in the lighthouse about a decade ago. The boys wanted to turn the lighthouse into their "secret clubhouse", addressing each other as "Ronnie" and "Lars" confirms that the two are Ronaldo and Lars as kids. As young Lars used a screwdriver to carve his name into the wall, young Ronaldo happened to hold a camera as a board in the wall suddenly smacked young Lars in the face, snapping a picture in shock. Ronaldo was ecstatic to find out that their clubhouse is "possessed" and showed Lars the picture he snapped hoping this discovery will make them famous. Young Lars was visibly nervous over a picture showing himself get hurt being shown in the news and merely tries to cut his face out to keep his dignity. Ronaldo is shocked and heartbroken to see Lars destroy his claim to fame without a care, the two started to wrestle after Ronaldo pushed his friend for it. As they wrestled, Ronaldo snaps at Lars for caring far too much about what other people think of him, but Lars snaps back that Ronaldo wouldn't say that if he knew what they were saying behind his back.

In the present, Ronaldo is still mad at Lars for running away from him that day, while Lars is ashamed of the things he had said and done. Steven and Sadie only focus on why the Gem was attacking Lars, it thought Lars carving his name in the wall was an attack on its "body" and kept that grudge for all these years. However, Lars snaps that he didn't want to rip the picture, but Ronaldo hasn't even thought of that, merely asking Sadie if she's okay. Lars also realized that he had forgotten about Sadie's horror trip, but she reassures all of them that she's fine. Steven offers to go home with Sadie to allow the two some time to talk things out, as soon as they leave, Ronaldo explains that he didn't want to embarrass Lars. Lars frantically says that it doesn't matter, causing Ronaldo to tease him about clearly still caring too much about what others think of him.

Season 5

Throughout the series, the two are not shown to have spoken much to each other since. However, in the finale, Ronaldo can be seen berating Lars' uniform presumably for its "accuracy". Lars, who had just come back to Earth after being trapped in space for the entire season, is clearly uncomfortable, but seems willing to endure Ronaldo's tirade.

Fanon

Ronlars was a popular ship after "Horror Club" initially aired, as many saw potential in them rekindling their friendship and possibly realizing that they need each other. However, despite many fans predicting that they would develop alongside each other, they barely interact throughout the rest of the series. Lars becoming a fan-favorite after previously being one of the more divisive characters had many hope that Ronaldo could've gotten a similar development. Some even hope that Ronaldo could still receive a "villain arc" to contrast with Lars' hero arc, validating how many fans hated Ronaldo for mundane reasons and spicing up their dynamic considerably.

Despite them barely interacting since Season 1, Ronlars continues to be Ronaldo's most popular ship on AO3 and within Lars' Top 5.
