Rooftop Squad is the friendship between Shota Aizawa, Nemuri Kayama, Oboro Shirakumo, and Hizashi Yamada from the My Hero Academia fandom.
Canon[]
Shota, Oboro, and Hizashi were all members of Class 2-A at UA High School. Nemuri was also a student there, but was a year older than the rest of them. The three second year students would often have lunch together on the rooftop of the school. One day, Nemuri encounters them up there. While she initially seems to admonish them for breaking the school rules, her attitude quickly turns and she tells the boys that she likes their rebellious streak. She also takes note of a cat that Oboro is holding. He had rescued it on the way to school, and the three boys have been trying to figure out what to do with it. Nemuri offers to take the cat home with her until they make a decision, and names it Sushi.
Quickly, the four students become friends. Nemuri uses her connections as a third year student to help Shota and Oboro get Work Studies at Purple Revolution Agency. The three work together as a team, while Hizashi fulfills his Work Study with Buster Union. The three boys dream of one day starting an agency of their own, although Shota seems a little reluctant to admit that he wants to partner up. Oboro asks Nemuri if she wants to join their agency as well, but she declines.
Later, the students face off against a villain named Garvey. Hizashi, as a member of the Buster Union, faces him first. However, his team is quickly defeated. Purple Revolution Agency steps up next, and Shota and Oboro in particular work together. However, tragedy strikes when Oboro is killed in battle. All three of them weep for their lost friend. As rain starts to pour down, Nemuri tells Shota and Hizashi that they should take cover so that they don't catch a cold. They thank her for her concern, but remain at the place of Oboro's death for hours.
Nemuri, Hizashi, and Shota's lives go on. They all become teachers at UA High School, with Shota being selected thanks to Nemuri's recommendation. They seem to get along well, even as adults. The three of them unknowingly face off against their old friend, Oboro, when the League of Villains attack the USJ. Later, Hizashi and Shota are brought in to meet Kurogiri, the Nomu who was once Oboro. They try to reach out to their old friend, and while they seem to momentarily get through to him, he just as quickly returns to Kurogiri. It is unknown if Nemuri was ever told about the fate of her old school friend; she dies not long after the discovery during the Paranormal Liberation War. Hizashi and Shota both quietly mourn her death.

Rooftop Squad is an incredibly popular friendship in the My Hero Academia fandom, especially among fans who have read the Vigilantes spin-off manga. Fans like to maximize on the tragic ending of the friendship group, and will sometimes portray Oboro as his Nomu form, Kurogiri. The ship sailed thanks to the flashbacks scenes in the Vigilantes manga, as this was Oboro's first real introduction in canon (about three months prior to this introduction in the main manga). As the Nemuri, Hizashi, and Shota friendship was already popular, fans were happy to add Oboro into the mix.
There are currently over 130 platonic works for this ship on AO3, and over 20 romantic works. There are many variations on this ship (as seen below), with the most popular being EraserMic which has over 2700 platonic works on AO3.
