Roy is a character from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Character[]
Roy is the son of Marquess Eliwood of Lycia's House Pherae and the protagonist of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. In the Disturbance of Bern, he was entrusted with the leadership of Pherae's army in opposing the invading Kingdom of Bern in lieu of Eliwood's illness, later becoming the leader of the Lycian army as a whole following the death of Hector of Ostia, and ultimately assuming command of the Etrurian army at King Modred's request with Elimine Church's support. He is also one of the characters who debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee, earlier than in his own game.
Roy is known for carrying the Binding Blade, Hartmut's legendary sword on the continent of Elibe. At the end of the game, the player can choose whether Roy stays single or marries one of the girls in his army and therefore also whether he rules only Pherae or all of Lycia.
Roy is interestingly known as one of the few characters that were debuted in an external game before than his own one. In this case, Roy debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee before than his own game.

Canon[]
The player can decide whether Roy marries one of the following girls or remains single at the end of the game, thanks to the support system introduced in the Fire Emblem games, especially in the GBA games.
Lilina
- Main article: RoyLili
She is the first girl Roy has met, as they were both introduced to each other by their parents and also both went out to play in the yard, even as 10-year-old kids. They eventually studied together at the Ostia school under Cecilia's tutelage until Bern's war broke out across the continent of Elibe. Later, Roy, now 15 years old, rescues Lilina from her imprisonment in her own castle and after defeating Legance, Lilina shows Roy the legendary sword Durandal. From then on, Lilina and Roy fight together against Bern for the rest of the war.
If they are both still alive and get a support A together, they both eventually marry and this makes them both become the King and Queen of Lycia, abolishing the marquess ruling system.
Shanna

Shanna is a pegasus knight from Ilia, sister of Thea and Juno, and also a member of Dieck's mercenaries. Eliwood hires her and her group to help Roy's army fight against Bern.
Shanna is the first female unit to join in chapter 2 of The Binding Blade. If she reaches A support with Roy, she marries him and gives up being a pegasus knight to become the Marchioness of Pherae.
Sophia
- Main article: Royphia
Sophia is a prophetess of Nabata and a shaman who wields dark magic, as well as a half-dragon humanoid species. Roy meets her after liberating the Missur peninsula from Bern's control, where Sophia was tending Cecilia's wound.
Sophia is the last Roy's love interest that joins the army in The Binding Blade. If she reaches A support with Roy, she marries him and gives up returning to Arcadia to become the Marchioness of Pherae.
Sue
- Main article: Roysue
Sue is a nomad native from Sacae, specifically of the Kutolah clan, and is skilled as a mounted archer. After being betrayed by the Djute, she escaped to Lycia, where she found protection under Orun. However, she was captured by Wagner when he assassinated Orun, although Roy and his army rescue her from prison and defeat Wagner.
Sue loves her passion for nature and in her support conversations with Roy, she shows it to him. If she reaches A support with Roy, she marries him and gives up returning to Sacae to become the Marchioness of Pherae.
Fanon[]
Roy is one of the popular lords of the Fire Emblem franchise, as he is one of the main characters, along with others such as Marth, Alm, Sigurd, Seliph, Leif, Eliwood, Ephraim and other similar characters.
Roy is also the center of many ships because he is one of the lords of the series who have many paired endings with most female units in his original game. However, many fans often discuss who Roy's canonical pairing is, even Intelligent Systems' favorite pairing for Roy, when in fact none of these paired Roy endings were confirmed as canon, as these are tailor-made for fans. Because of this, some fans assume that Roy canonically stays single and doesn't marry anyone or that this will be an eternal mystery.
