Canon[]

While the FreeSmart Van passes through a snowy biome, Ruby grabs a clump of snow and throws a snowball at Book. As the two engage in a snowball fight, Pencil warns them not to do so at the risk of snow mixing with gasoline.

After Pencil asks Ruby if she went to gem school, Book tells her that gem school is for diamonds only. Book suggests that Ruby pushes Evil Leafy's purple button after Pencil is vaporized away. The button transforms them into regular size and teleports them right by Evil Leafy. The two try to quietly walk away but must quickly evacuate after Evil Leafy spots them. After being chased for a while, they climb up a tree and Ruby instructs Book to cut a rope with a weight on the other side. They high-five after the weight crushes Evil Leafy, Fries, and Puffball. Book, however, realizes that they can't recover their dead teammembers because of the recovery center being inside Evil Leafy, saddening Ruby. On-screen text indicates that Ruby "died from sadness" and Book used her remains to make billions of dollars. The two, however, make it back with the four other alive contestants and must crank a machine with them to produce a new recovery center.

Ruby tells Book that she didn't actually die from sadness after Book questions it. Match invites Book and Ruby to have a break from cranking with her. While Match decides to stop cranking the rest of the time through, Book and Ruby return to the machine once her timer goes off. After they finish cranking, Book tries to calm Ruby's fears of the machine exploding. She states that it self-destructing could potentially mean it disappears without a trace. As the machine's counter hits zero, Book stops Ruby from hallucinating its explosion and proves that it simply vanished. The two help with recovering the rest of their team and head out to complete their journey to Yoyle Mountain. Book and Ruby later engage in another snowball fight as they drive past the desert. Throughout their drive underwater, Book recovers Ruby among other team members when she loses her breath.

Book warns Bubble and Ruby that they will turn into metal after eating yoyle-berries. Ruby does not listen and turns metal accordingly. When Ruby asks how they're going to free Pencil from the fish monster's grip, Book suggests killing her and recovering her with the Hand-Powered Recovery Center.

While falling from Yoyle Mountain's summit, Ruby asks Book if she would like some yoyleberries. Book, although suggesting she would've rejected them in an alternate universe, accepts and eats them. For the challenge, Book and Ruby hop in the FreeSmart Super Van as Pencil drives them around the city looking for a place to sleep. Book is excited to visit the Pillow Marketplace when Ruby suggests going there. After a few hours of driving, Ruby opens Book's pages to find where the Pillow Marketplace is. She learns that the mall is a part of a larger building in which the stairs for them are broken. Book suggests getting balloons so the van can float to the 276th floor of the Yoyle Needy, where the marketplace is. After having brought balloons from a store, Ruby and Book comment on the historic buildings they're flying over. They later come across a pipe and are about to fly right into it. Since they are in the air, Pencil can not drive around it and they end up crashing into it. The three must hold their breath as water starts flowing into the van. Before they drown, Book suggests that they grab snorkels and puncture holes of the roof with them to breathe. Book is scared that they will lose the challenge and Ruby is sad that they won't be able to visit the pillow marketplace. The team ends up in conflict with W.O.A.H. Bunch and after brawling, Book and Ruby come to a realization that they're forgetting to sleep for the challenge. Ruby hands blankets and pillows to her team as they try to sleep away. To avoid further confrentation with Evil Leafy, Ice Cube attaches balloons to her team so they can sleep in the air. After the challenge, Book supports Ruby's idea on starting a video diary for the team and grabs a camera for them to use. Ruby snatches the camera from Book to her annoyance.

During day 20 of their video diary, Book records an aurora borealis and captures Ruby catching a shooting star. The team later overhears the challenge wheel being spun and as each member works to pop each other's balloons, Book is biting away at Ruby's balloon. Ruby wakes Book up after falling and alerts them of intruders on their team. Book learns it's Firey and Gelatin and comments her stances on the two. Since they didn't land in time to know the challenge, Book, Pencil, Ruby, and Ice Cube must listen to Firey and Gelatin on the challenges they tell them to do such as doing jumping jacks, smashing windows, and traveling through planets. As Firey jokes that the contest is to actually kill their teammates, Ruby rips Book in half. She later recovers the team and explains to Book why she killed her.

Ruby and Book explore the remains of the Aerospace Plant with Pencil and Ice Cube, appreciating its "anti-beauty". Book calls the gears that Ruby finds attractive, inspiring Pencil to try them on as earrings. Later during Cake at Stake when Ruby is about to kick Firey and Gelatin out of the Clubhouse of Awesomeness, Book steps in and demands that they include them. Preventing Ruby's kick, Book ends up causing her to shatter from the force. After Ruby is recovered, the two are announced the first safe at Cake at Stake.

As Gelatin walks up appreciating pieces of gems he found in his backyard, Book angrily points out that he's holding Ruby's remains. Gelatin, however, makes a comeback that Book sold her remains for billions of dollars a few months ago, making Book regret her earlier actions. After Ruby recovers herself and vomits from mistaking pink paint as strawberry milk, Book is happy to see her back and wonders how she's back. Ruby explains to her that dying near her Yoyleite allowed her spirit to remain partially alive, astounding Book as she realizes that Pencil must be able to do the same thing. The two are reunited with the team and plan on celebrating inside the Clubhouse of Awesomeness. At the start of the charades challenge, Ruby tells Book that she appreciates her sacrifice of going first for the team. She mistakes Book's gesture of rowing a boat as trying to unclog a toilet, causing the crusher to lower on Book. As a last measure, Book pulls out a page and points to the word rowing hoping that the team is able to see it. Ruby is about to announce what it says but then states that she can't read. Pencil ends up freeing her from the trash compactor, making Book wonder why Ruby couldn't tell she was rowing a boat. She responds that Book rows boats the same way that she unclogs toilets. When it's Pencil's turn to gesture, Book facepalms when Ruby guesses that she too is unclogging a toilet. After Pencil is later crushed, the two along with Ice Cube are the last remaining members of their team's challenge. Guessing what Ice Cube's gesture might be, Book isn't able to figure out her hints and turns to Ruby, who correctly guesses that she is making a beautiful face. When Ruby reads off what her prompt is, Book calls her out because she said she couldn't read earlier. Ruby points out that the chambers are suppose to be sound proof as Book explains that she's reading her lips. Answering the previous question, she reveals that she pretended she couldn't read so that she could gain sympathy from Pencil. Puffball Speaker Box is annoyed that the two are able to communicate through the trash compactors and puts a blindfold on Book as punishment. Since Book is unable to see, she puts Ice Cube in the role of guessing Ruby's gestures. Book overhears noises caused by Ruby bouncing around in the chamber and chases after it when Ice Cube tells Book that she knocked the chamber over. After Ruby is released, Book blames her for causing the chamber to spin down a hill and is still unable to see what Ice Cube is doing inside. Later when Ruby is unable to figure out what Ice Cube is doing swinging her leg with a knife, Book explains that her that she's recreating an exchange she and Ice Cube had with Pin. Since Book correctly guessed it, she is put in the chamber but is unable to see her prompt because of the blindfold. Ruby shouts to take it off despite the chamber being soundproof, although she ends up doing so anyways. Book is later killed by the Puffball Speaker Box for literally reading the word lips as her prompt.

Book informs Ruby that since she didn't know what a lens cap was, there is a chance every single video diary they recorded was obstructed by it. Later when Pencil is falling from the top of Yoyle Needy, Book instructs her and Ice Cube to run down to catch her in time. She warns Ruby not to jump down the center of the staircase, but she does so anyways and shatters. After catching Pencil, Book reminds her to recover Ruby along with Bubble and Ice Cube. Book walks to the Hand-Powered Recovery Center and dances with the team after recovering Ruby. Later during the credits, Book and Ruby encourage viewers to recommend characters for the new season.
