Rujinu is the het ship between Jinu and Rumi from the KPop Demon Hunters fandom.
Canon[]
Meeting Each Other[]
After picking up tonics for Rumi’s voice, the five members of the Saja Boys appear. Zoey and Mira are immediately drawn to them, clearly attracted to their good looks. Rumi, however, is visibly disgusted and shows no interest until Jinu shows up. The moment she sees him, Rumi stares in awe, seemingly falling in love at first sight due to his appearance.

Rumi seeing Jinu for the first time
As Jinu walks past her, he bumps into Rumi, causing her to drop the box of tonics and fall. Without showing much concern, Jinu extends his hand toward her only to pull it away last second to brush off his own shoulder. He tells her to watch herself and walks off, leaving Rumi shocked. She yells back, telling him to watch himself. Later, Rumi, Zoey, and Mira pick up the scattered tonics from the ground and discuss their shared dislike for the boys.

Wait… He’s in a Demon Boy Band?[]
While picking up the spilled tonics, Rumi and the girls hear music playing and decide to investigate. To their surprise, the Saja Boys are performing with Jinu singing center stage. Rumi immediately groans, “It’s those stupid jerks again!”. She’s stunned to realize they’re actually a boy band.
As Jinu drinks from one of the tonics he stole earlier, Rumi gasps and calls him out as “the jerk who stole one of her pouches.” Suddenly, she and the girls notice something strange markings flash across Jinu’s arm and neck, his eyes briefly turning yellow before shifting back to normal. Making it clear to Rumi and them that Jinu is a demon.

Jinu taunting Rumi leaving her angry
As their upbeat song “Soda Pop” plays, Rumi realizes the Saja Boys are targeting the audience stealing not just fans’ attention, but also their support. While pushing through the crowd to get a better look, Rumi locks eyes with Jinu. He gives her a smug smirk and brushes off his shoulder, silently taunting her as if to say, they are taking away her fans. Rumi is left visibly angry.
Saja Boys and the Special Guests[]
While the girls are waiting for the right moment to sneak attack the Saja Boys during a variety show thinking the segment was wrapping up soon. Jinu glances at them sideways, clearly amused. Before anyone can say their goodbyes, he grabs the microphone and interrupts the ending, announcing a surprise which is special guests. Jinu drags the unprepared Huntrix into the variety show. Rumi is confused and wonders what he’s planning. She tries to keep things professional, making a fake story for being there as congratulating the Saja Boys on their debut. Jinu then eagerly suggested dragging them into the games. Jinu excitedly tries to involve the Huntrix into games with the Saja Boys. After the girls get off the slide, Jinu gives the girls an awkward smile only for a flash of his demon eyes to appear, along with the other Saja Boys. Rumi is left frustrated once again.
Rumi vs Jinu[]

“You're strong” — JINU
After the variety show, the girls chase the Saja Boys into a bathhouse, only to be ambushed by a swarm of water demons. While they fight, Jinu casually tells them to “have fun” before almost slipping on a puddle. Rumi, not amused, chases after him. She attacks with her sword, but Jinu, clearly not taking the fight seriously, dodges her strikes. He teases her, telling her not to touch his face and tells that he needs to steal her fans. In the midst of their battle, he throws a bucket at her and slashes her arm with his demon claw. Despite the pain, Rumi continues attacking, pushing him until their faces end up mere inches apart. Jinu laughs, praising her strength even as he struggles to hold his ground. He suddenly pauses spotting a pattern on her skin. Rumi looks at her arm in shock and taking it as a opportunity Jinu shoves her back. Rumi panics, realizing her secret might be exposed. Jinu watches in disbelief stunned :
- “A Hunter who’s part demon?”
- — Jinu after seeing Rumi's pattern

Jinu shielding a blushing Rumi
Rumi panicking tries to hide the mark with her hand, when part of the wall breaks showing Zoey and Mira. Jinu pulls her into a hug to shield her from the view of her friends. Rumi blushes by being caught off guard by being close to him. He quietly places a cloth over the torn area of her outfit and quickly disappears. Rumi notices he left the cloth behind on her.
The Pattern We Bear[]
While looking at the letter clutched in a Derpy’s mouth she ended up finding due Sussy. Rumi notices the message inside reads: “Hello, friend.” She quickly realizes it’s from Jinu, inviting her to meet him. Rumi annoyed and says she’s not going. But after watching the strange animals teleport away, curiosity gets the better of her, and she decides to give it a shot.
She spots Jinu standing on a rooftop at nighttime and quietly approaches from behind, manifesting her sword. She strikes only to realize it was a mannequin in his place. Suddenly, Jinu appears nearby and remarks playfully, “I wasn’t expecting a hug, but-.” Rumi charges at him, but he quickly holds up his hands and tells her to calm down. Jinu thought the mannequin prank would be a fun icebreaker though he quickly realizes he’s totally wrong. Rumi keeps trying to attack him. All Jinu wants now is to talk specifically about the pattern he saw on her during their last fight. He tries to tries to lighten the mood, with talking about her pants which has teddy bears, and Choo Choo trains on it. Rumi shouts that he is supposed to be dead, still trying to attack him. Jinu told her he could’ve revealed her secret to her friends, but he didn't. He quickly picks up on Rumi’s shocked expression, correctly deducing that her friends are unaware of her secret. He grows more intrigued by the fact that she’s also both a Hunter and Demon. Rumi tries to deny it, insisting she’s only a Hunter, not a demon. Jinu remains curious questioning how she came to possess the patterns on her body. Rumi firmly shuts him out, thinking it’s none of his business. Jinu admits he understands what it’s like to have patterns like hers. Rumi refuses to believe demons are capable of feeling anything. He later explains that demons are controlled by Gwi-Ma and it surprises him that Rumi never hears him. He states she is lucky because of it.
He opens up, revealing that he was not born a demon, but that he became one approximately 400 years ago. Jinu begins to speak about his past, reflecting on the family he once had and how the pattern on his body is a constant, inescapable reminder of his shame. Rumi listens in silence, processing his words. He steps closer to her with his gaze steady as he meets her eyes. He raises his hands slowly marked with his demon pattern and gently brings it near her neck. The moment it hovers close, Rumi’s hidden pattern begins to glow in response. Jinu tells her that her pattern, like his, is a reminder of shame she doesn’t want to face. She insists he doesn’t truly know her. Jinu tries to comfort her.

Jinu making Rumi patterns glow
- You know you can tell me. I’ll understand. I’m the only one who can.
- —JINU
He tells her that she can talk to him, that he would understand because he’s the only one who truly can. She brings up her sword up and tells him she nothing like him. He walks back thinking she is in denial and he gets it by relating to her situation. He says he will be there for her once she is done pretending and says goodbye by suggesting there will be a next time they will meet. Rumi gets angry shouting there won’t be a next time.
Huntrix and Saja Boys Fan Event[]
During a fan event for Huntrix, the Saja Boys secretly crash the meeting. When Rumi asks who the mystery guests are supposed to be making out to, Jinu reveals themselves by saying, “To your biggest fans.” Not wanting to lose fans to a joint signing, Rumi quickly suggests that they all sit together though reluctantly at the same table. Jinu leans in close, teasing:
- Jinu – “I didn’t think you liked sharing.”
- Rumi – “I love sharing.”
- — Rumi replying with sarcasm
Jinu follows up by asking whether she shared her secret with her friends yet. Jinu looks at her smiling asking if he should tell them. Rumi insists she will eventually.

Jinu asked Rumi if he can tell her friends her secret
A fan notice they are whispering to each other. Both of them stutters and reach for the same autograph paper at the same moment before handing it to the fan. The fan assumes they’re a secret couple due to being Kpop idols and proudly reveals that they’re a Rujinu shipper complete with a cheesy homemade shirt leaving them to awkwardly laugh. The fan leaves saying they are so cute.
Rumi tells him she refuses to speak with someone who sides with Gwi-Ma. Jinu says he is helping himself. Jinu, defensive yet honest, insists he’s only helping himself explaining that Gwi-Ma promised to erase his memories and silence the voices in his head. Rumi snaps, calling him pathetic. Jinu questions if he is the one who is pathetic instead of her. Jinu leans in close and whispers in her ear, questioning whether she’s one to talk, since she can’t even talk about her own pattern. Rumi stomps hard on his foot, leaving Jinu reeling in pain. She lashes out, declaring her hatred for her pattern is like her hate for all demons and for Gwi-Ma. Jinu tells her that hate isn’t a real solution and if it was he would’ve used it long ago. He urges her to trust him while looking at each other. A little girl fan interrupts them and gives Jinu a drawing, saying he has a beautiful soul. Rumi tells him to listen to the voices of his fans instead of the ones in his head. She then shouts, “Isn’t he great?” and tries to get people to cheer for Jinu loudly.
Save The Date[]
While waiting for her, Jinu looks at the Save The Date letter, thinking Rumi wanted to meet but was running late. Suddenly, Rumi sneaks up on him, making Jinu jump. He freaks out thinking she made him come all this way just to scare him. Rumi simply tells him to follow her. Jinu, relieved she’s finally ready to talk, assumes their meeting is a date because of the letter though he complains she could’ve picked somewhere nicer. Rumi looks disgusted by him assuming that their meeting was a date. When Jinu shows her the letter, Rumi glances at it and calls him old for misunderstanding. She snatches it from his hand and tells him it’s a business meeting, not a date.
Rumi suggests another way for Jinu to be free by helping Huntrix win the Idol Awards. If they win, the Honmoon will be sealed, guaranteeing his freedom. She opens up, saying that once her patterns are gone, she won’t have to hide anymore. Rumi tells him he can stand on the side when it’s over. Jinu asks why the Honmoon being sealed would help someone like him. Rumi replies that he’s someone who helps his family and just made a mistake, but Jinu says it’s not that simple. Rumi opens up about herself and admits that she has been a mistake ever since she was born. Jinu looks at her gently. Rumi says that if there no hope for him, then what about her. They stare at each other in silence.
An older woman interrupts them, mistaking Rumi for Jinu’s girlfriend and tries to give them a bracelet. Jinu quickly stammers that Rumi isn’t his type and that they’re not together. Rumi offended fires back that she is everyone’s type. They start bickering with each other. Jinu brings up she can’t show up on time and Rumi says he acts like he’s from the 1900s. He jokes that it’s no wonder she’s single and says they’d never work out. The older woman stares him and turns to Rumi, saying she deserves a better boy, and calls Jinu “hopeless” as she hands Rumi the bracelet. Jinu laughs and tells Rumi, “There’s your answer. Hopeless.”
Rumi gazes at the bracelet thoughtfully and says hope isn’t something anyone else gets to decide and that choice belongs to yourself as person. She offers the bracelet to Jinu. He hesitates, staring at it. Thinking he won’t accept, Rumi starts lowering her hand. She begins to leave and mutters it is his loss. But Jinu suddenly grabs her wrist, stopping her. He stares at her for a long moment until he snaps out of it and awkwardly says he wanted the bracelet. Rumi stiffly hands it over. Jinu says to her that she isn’t a mistake. Rumi silently looks at him then they both awkwardly say their goodbyes.
Their Duet[]

“But I won't if you're not by my side” — RUMI
Rumi asks Jinu if he thought about her earlier offer which is the plan that could grant him freedom. Jinu admits he wants to believe in it but doesn’t think he’s the right person to help her cause. In response, Rumi opens up emotionally, revealing that just by being around him, he’s already helped her far more than he knows. She explains how hiding her true self out of shame had damaged her voice, something vital to who she is, but that ever since she met Jinu and began speaking with him, her voice started to heal. Rumi begins to sing about her shame and struggles with her voice, Jinu quietly watches her. In her lyrics, she reveals that being around him, she feels like she can finally be herself and that he is good for her, despite what he believes. She sings of her hope to change, but not alone, not without him by her side.
While walking together, she sings that he feels right when she lets him in and feels like she can tell him anything. Rumi suggests that they stop running, face their fears together, and find a way out. She dreams of freedom not just from their enemies, but from their burdens from within. Jinu later joins the duet, his voice tinged with sorrow. He admits that as time passed, he lost perspective on life. That hope only hurted him, so he chooses to forget it. He brings up how Rumi broke through the darkness in him when he thought that nobody could. He thinks she wakes up different parts that he buried in himself. He looks in a window looking at her. He feels like he can truly be himself when he is with her, because no one else sees him the way she does. They leap off the rooftop together, looking softly as their eyes meet.

Rumi and Jinu hand holding
Rumi smiles and offers her hand. Jinu takes it without hesitation, smiling back. The two turn towards to each other with their hands holding locked in a soft lingering stare as their duet comes to an end. Rumi looks up at him with Jinu gazing at her ending their song. Rumi realizes her voice has returned, while Jinu notices the he doesn’t hear Gwi-Ma voice. He assures her that he’s ready to go through with her plan and to help make the Saja Boys lose. Rumi responds gently, saying that they’ll both win.

- “Rumi, wait. I...”
- — JINU
As she begins to walk away, Jinu stops her. He stumbles over his words as if he wants to say something more. She patiently looks back at him. He hesitates and then says he can’t wait to see her on stage. Rumi smiles warmly before leaving.
The Idol Awards[]
While walking, Rumi and the girls pass by the Saja Boys. Jinu glances at Rumi quickly. Rumi also looks at Jinu, unaware that he was going to betray her due to Gwi-Ma’s influence and the truth behind his past. During the Huntrix performance for Golden at the Idol Awards, Rumi is caught in a trap set by Jinu, which publicly reveals her demon form to everyone. She panics and is scared because of this. She is left alone as Mira and Zoey begin to distrust her for hiding her true identity. Rumi brings up Jinu and the plan to erase her patterns, but Zoey assumes she’s working with him. Rumi insists she is not that she’s only using him to fix everything. Her friends hesitate and point their weapons at her with sad expressions.

Jinu looking at Rumi walking by
- No! No, I know your story. You were a good person, and you still are...
- —Rumi

Jinu leaves Rumi by herself
Rumi runs off, calling out Jinu’s name. She finds him with the fake Mira and Zoey, desperate to know whether he was truly behind the trap. She pleads, asking how he could do this. Jinu reluctantly says it was all a lie. Rumi brings up that she knows what they shared was real. Jinu pretends to manipulate her, saying words he doesn’t mean. Despite everything, Rumi tells him she still believes that he is a good person because she knows about his past. Jinu screams at Rumi, telling her that he left his family and that he lied to her. He confesses he made a deal with Gwi-Ma to escape his miserable life. As tears stream down his face, he repeats that he abandoned his mother and sister, leaving them all alone and worst off than before. Rumi refuses to believe this is the real him, she insists it’s the demon talking. She urges him to fight it. Jinu shouts in his demonic voice, “That’s not how it works!”. Rumi yells in return, “Yes, it is!”. He tells her to listen to herself that she is a demon just like him. He tells her that demons are meant to live with pain and misery, because that’s all they deserve. Then, without another word, he vanishes leaving Rumi standing there, alone.
He Gave His Soul To Her[]
During the Saja Boys’ performance, while the audience, including Mira and Zoey, are hypnotized, Rumi suddenly appears, unexpectedly interrupting Jinu’s singing. He furrows his brow, trying to see who it is. Rumi steps forward, trying to bring hope back to the Hunters and fix the broken world. Gwi-Ma mocks her, saying she can’t do anything, but Rumi insists she can create a new Honmoon. She begins to sing this time with her normal voice restoring Mira and Zoey to their normal selves. Gwi-Ma angrily demands she stop singing and releases demons on them. With Huntrix reunited, they draw their weapons. Rumi and the girls begin walking toward the Saja Boys with Jinu watching her closely. Gwi-Ma launches a powerful blast at Rumi. She struggles to block it with her sword staggering under the force. Jinu watches her with growing worry. Then, at the last moment, he steps in shielding her with his own body. Rumi gasps as Jinu takes the hit. She cries out his name not wanting him to sacrifice himself. Jinu, in pain, apologizes for everything he’s done. Rumi tearfully tells him that all she wanted was to set him free. He said she did by giving him his soul back. Rumi begins showing her tears. Jinu, also crying, begins disappearing while saying that he will give his soul to her. Rumi sheds a single tear as he vanishes.

Fanon[]
Even before the movie’s release, fans began pairing Rumi and Jinu based on the trailer alone. Many assumed they would become romantic partners, prompting early fan art and fanfiction. Once the movie premiered, the shipping intensified, especially since Rumi appeared to fall for Jinu at first sight, largely due to his good looks. Since she showed no similar interest in the other Saja Boys before Jinu appeared, many fans see this as proof that she’s only interested in him. Fans also found it especially sweet that Jinu would send letters asking Rumi to meet him, and their shared duet is often seen as the highlight of the film. Their banter especially as leaders of their Kpop groups and the way they gradually open up to each other only deepen the appeal of their relationship.
This ship became popular after the movie’s release, especially as edits and cute fanart began circulating on social media with even Sony Animation joining in on the shipping. Some fans will prefer using the ship name Jinumi over the official ship name. Many fans enjoy the doomed enemies to lovers angle for the fanfics. Some even write alternate endings where Jinu survives, allowing him and Rumi to finally be happy together. A popular headcanon is that Jinu’s soul is preserved within Rumi’s sword. Jinu being reincarnated is another known headcanon among fans hoping for a sequel. Popular rival ships to them are Rumira and the Polytrix ship. It’s also paired alongside Zoemira and Zoeystery sometimes.
Many fans also were hoping for a confession or kiss scene between Rumi and Jinu throughout their interactions, especially during the emotional climax near the end where Jinu sacrifices himself. The reveal of kiss concept art only left some fans wondering why a kiss scene wasn’t included in the movie especially with the large amount of ship tease they receive as this left many fans disappointed after finishing watching the movie. It was later revealed that this was intentional as the scene was cut because the director liked the unresolved tension between the two. With some fans speculating that if Jinu returns in a potential sequel, that is when the kiss will finally happen.
Some fans draw parallels between this pairing with Oshamir, GhostFlower, Destiel, Zutara, Hyuluka, JayVik, and especially Timebomb due to the doomed nature of their relationship or them not getting together. Netflix has even joined in with the Timebomb comparisons, comparing Jinx and Rumi with the line,“I just need braids to fall in love”. Also Netflix Philippines and Netflix Brasil have both drawn comparisons between Rujinu and Timebomb. Another ship is Do Do-hee x Jeong Gu-won, since one is a demon and the other is a human. A few fans also think they are like Jelsa due to similar appearances with Rumi having a long braid like Elsa, and Jinu being a handsome guy resembling Jack Frost. Many fans have also compare Rumi and Jinu’s “Free” duet and the iconic “I See the Light” lantern scene from Disney’s Tangled, featuring New Dream.
