Russel and Noodle are the drummer and guitarist of the virtual band Gorillaz respectively. The two first met in 1997 when Noodle arrived at the doorstep of Kong Studios in a FedEx package. She played a riff using a guitar and spoke a single word in English which would give her a name: Noodle. She was accepted into the band as a replacement for their former guitarist, Paula Cracker. After that, they became close friends and developed a family bond.
Phase 1[]
They can be seen together in the Tomorrow Comes Today, Clint Eastwood, Rock The House and 19-2000 music videos. In the latter, the two are sitting next to each other inside the band's jeep.

In the G-Bitez short, Jump the Gut, Noodle briefly stares at Russel while she grabs the money Del had dropped. In Game of Death, they have a friendly fight as it seems Murdoc and 2-D are controlling them like videogame characters. In Hey! Our Toys Have Arrived, she watches him amazed when he shakes 2-D's head.

In August 2001, the band went to Japan to perform live as part of their tour. This lead to Noodle developing melancholy for feeling isolated from her homeland and nightmares regarding her forgotten past. To cheer her up, Russel bought her a jetpack.
In L.A, an incident happened during a fight where Murdoc attempted to strangle 2-D. Noodle and Russel broke up the fight. Murdoc, sick of everything, decided to separate and end the band.
Phase 2[]
During the band's brief separation, Noodle and Russel took different paths. (With Noodle travelling to Japan and Russel staying in L.A) They did not meet again up until March 2004 when Noodle called him and 2-D to return to Kong Studios. After returning to the latter, she presented them to her concept for a new album called Demon Days, however, they did not start developing the album since Murdoc was still in prison. In 2005, with Murdoc free, they could develop and Launch Demon Days.
After the El Mañana music video incident, everyone thought that Noodle was in the Maldives, including Russel. In reality, she was missing and was supposedly dead.
Phase 3[]
During Plastic Beach both of them were missing in the band and were instead together standing in the middle of the ocean.
In the On Melancholy Hill music video, it is revealed that Noodle is actually alive and was boarding a cruise ship named M. Harriet, but she would escape as it was being attacked by the Black Clouds. She had managed to swim over to a lifeboat. Suddenly, a gigantic version of Russel lifts out of the water picking up Noodle with him. In the live visuals for Broken, Noodle was standing in Russel's hand while playing a melodica.
Fanon[]
Their friendship is highly accepted and love by the fandom. Like many Noodle, ships it is viewed problematic due to the fact they have a 15-year age gap and the fact they have raised her since she was 7. Most people tend to see it as father-daughter relationship, others as a uncle-niece bond. They currently have 70+ fanfics on AO3.
