Rustball is the non-binary ship between Greaseball and Rusty from the Starlight Express fandom.

1984 London Production[]
Greaseball and the other engines are hyping themselves up for the big race, when Rusty enters. Greaseball and the other engines mock Rusty for being a steam engine and unable to keep up with them, but Rusty stands up to them. Declaring that he intends to race and win despite being considered obsolete when compared to a diesel engine like Greaseball.
Later, Greaseball is met by CB, who plans to take out Rusty for him. During the race, Rusty is unable to move, which allows for Greaseball and Electra to tie for first. Rusty calls out that CB helped Greaseball cheat, but Greaseball denies this. He is then confronted by Pearl, but Greaseball tells her that if she goes to turn him in for what happened to Rusty, she'll just get suspended.

Rustball is a popular ship in the StEx fandom. With most fans who ship it being fans of ships between rival. With some liking the idea of the two actually getting along when all the races are done. The ship is less popular with fans of the London Revival, due to Greaseball being genderswapped. As many queer fans preferred to keep her with her main canon relationship after that. Its main rival ships include GreaseDinah, Prusty, Greased Lightning and Tendersteam.
Some fans believe that Greaseball and Rusty used to be friends, but Greaseball abandoned Rusty after they became champion. Not wanting a slower engine like Rusty around to ruin their image. Others believe they might have been exes, which is why the two are so hostile with each other when the show beings. Others just like the idea of Greaseball having a thing for Rusty, but only knowing how to show it with bullying. It's also fond for fans who like a redemption story, and like that Greaseball comes around to Rusty at the end.
On AO3, Rustball is the third most written ship for both Greaseball and Rusty. It is also the eighth most written ship in the Starlight Express fandom. There are currently 25+ written works.
