SEES Trio is the friendship between Mitsuru Kirijo, Akihiko Sanada, and Shinjiro Aragaki from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
Akihiko, Shinjiro, and Mitsuru are the same age. Shinjiro would have been in his third year, like Akihiko and Mitsuru, if he hadn't dropped out of school. Akihiko had known Shinjiro the longest since they grew up in the same orphanage, while both had known Mitsuru since middle school. Akihiko and Shinjiro addressed each other by nicknames, while Mitsuru wasn’t given a nickname like them. Akihiko is the only one among the trio to address them by their first names. In the original English version, Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Shinjiro address each other by their first names.
They were the founders of SEES, which was created in their middle school years, and have been actively fighting lesser Shadows during the Dark Hour. However, in 2007, after a tragic incident on October 4th, Shinjiro left SEES and stopped going to school, leaving only Akihiko and Mitsuru as active members.
On October 4th, 2009, Akihiko, Mitsuru, and other members of SEES witnessed Shinjiro’s death. Their reaction was barely shown.
Female Route - Other Social Links[]
Akihiko and Mitsuru were present in Shinjiro’s Social Link 6, where he made everyone a meal. If Shinjiro’s Social Link is maxed before October, he’ll survive but be rendered comatose for the rest of the game.

Akihiko and Mitsuru are mainly involved in Shinjiro’s Link Episodes, where they try to persuade him to go back to school, but he refuses. They eventually realize it was wrong to force Shinjiro to return to school. He doesn’t want to, so they decide not to bug him anymore. In Shinjiro’s Link Episode 4, Mitsuru and Akihiko try to persuade Shinjiro because they promised to graduate from Gekkoukan High together.
On October 4th, Akihiko and Mitsuru’s reactions were fully shown, and they were significantly saddened by Shinjiro’s death.
Film[]
The three of them don’t interact with each other because Shinjiro’s interaction focuses on Akihiko and Ken. During the September full moon operation, Mitsuru, Akihiko, and everyone else witnessed Shinjiro losing control of his persona.
A few days after Shinjiro’s death, Mitsuru is among the other third-year attendees at Shinjiro’s funeral, while Akihiko doesn’t participate in his childhood friend's funeral.
The Weird Masquerade[]
Like the films, they are only seen briefly and do not do much together.
Female Route[]
In the final act, Mitsuru and Akihiko reunited with Shinjiro before looking for Kotone and Aigis. However, unlike Mitsuru, Akihiko stays behind with Ken to help Shinjiro catch up with the others.
Fanon[]
SEES Trio is a well-known ship in the fandom, both as a platonic pairing and as a polyamorous one. In the canon of the game, the three are shown to have a close friendship and have been known to guard each other's secrets. This is likely what inspired people to focus on their trio.
The romantic version of this ship is typically inspired by those who ship both Akishinji and AkiMitsu and don't want to choose between the two. Often in these situations, Akihiko is dating both Shinjiro and Mitsuru, but they are not dating each other. Sometimes, Akihiko starts dating or crushing on one of them, before moving on to the second.
On AO3, there are currently a total of 20 works for the platonic version of this pairing, and 20+ works for the romantic version.
