Sainfiora is the het ship between Sain and Fiora from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Sain and Fiora are two playable characters of Fire Emblem the Blazing Blade. Sain is a knight of Caelin (a part of the Lycian Alliance). Fiora is a poor mercenary from the cold land of Illia.
Before meeting Fiora Sain meet her younger sister Florina. Sain (alongside his friend and teamate Kent) was on a mission to find the heir of Caelin lady Lyn who was leaving in Sacae. He became friend with her and they traveled to Caelin. During their journey the meet Florina (a friend of Lyn and Fiora's little sister). Florina eventually became a knight of Caelin alongside Florina.
A year after the end of Lyn's quest Eliwood (the future marquess of Pherae) with a small group went on a quest to find his missing father. Their quest led them to discover a conspiracy against Ostia (the most powerful member of the Lycia league) and they fight some forces of Laus (an other part of Lycia). Their enemies flee to Caelin an seize the castle. Lyn and some knights (amoung them Florina and Sain) managed to escape and merge with Eliwood's group to free Caelin. After that Lyn and her knights decide to join Eliwood in his quest. The search for Elbert led them to the Dread Island. Around the same time Fiora and her squad of pegasus knights had been hired to investigate the Dread Island. They fall into a trap and all Fiora's subordinates were killed by the Black Fang (a group of assasin manipulated by the same person behind the conspiracy). Fiora decided to go in a suicidal mission to avenge her dead companions, and show up during a fight between the Black Fang and Eliwood's group. Florina convinces Fiora to give up her revenge and join their group. By joining the group Fiora became Sain's ally.
During the adventure they can can support and develop a relationship. In their first support Sain introduce himself to Fiora. He tries to woo her by saying that she is "three times lovelier than [he] had heard" and by promising to protect her. Fiora is annoyed; she answers that she can defend herself then leave. In their second support they meet again. Sain once again say that he is Fiora's "knight and protector" and state how beautiful he think she is. The pegasus knight still annoyed and leave like the first time they meet. But then Sain collapses and Fiora came back to help him. She is worried but he assure that it's nothing. Fiora notices that Sain pushed himself too much and explain that he need to rest a bit. Sain says that he can't since he need to protect all the women of their army but collapses again. In their third and last support Fiora is glad to see that Sain seems to have fully recovered. Sain continues to woo her by stating that her loved is what saved him from the brink of death. Fiora still find him annoying but admits that he is trully a knight. The support end with Fiora leaving after explaining that they shouldn't fight next to each other.
If at the end of the game Fiora and Sain have reached their A support they will have a paired ending. After the conflict they return to their respective countries but stay in a relationship. Later Lyn decide to abdicate Caelin's rule to Ostia. Sain leave Lycia to join Fiora in Illia. They later wed.
Fanon[]
Sainfiora is Fiora's third most popular het ship (behind Kent/Fiora and Elfiora and one of Sain's most popular (tied with Priscilla/Sain and before Sain/Rebecca). This relative popularity can be explained by Sainfiora's optional canonicity. On AO3 the ship has only 5 works. The fact that it's not a really present ship is due to the fact that Sain and Fiora are two secondary characters in Fire Emblem the Blazing Blade that aren't that present outside of their home game (for example in the crossover game Fire Emblem Heroes Fiora and Sain only have two and one versions respectively). Another factor is how Fiora and Sain don't interract outside of their supports and paired ending. The ship is also overshadowed by Fiora's other options (Kent/Fiora and Elifiora) and by Sain's most popular slash ship Kentsain.
Sainfiora is generally liked for the comedic nature of their support conversations. It's also liked as a Pair The Spares ship; Sain and Fiora are paired together because their other options are paired with other characters. Most fanfictions centered on them take place after the end of the game. It's not uncommon to see it shipped alongside Kent/Farina since the two ships involve a pegasus knight and a knight with contrasting personnalities; it also make Sain and Kent brothers-in-law.
Due to Kent and Fiora's similar personnalities Sainfiora often seen as the het counterpart to Kentsain.
