- Jyuto – “Right, Samatoki does need to strengthen his brain.. Oh, excuse me, I meant vocabulary.”
- Samatoki – “Hey, bunny cop, you tryna tell me that I'm stupid!?”
- Jyuto – “In layman's terms, yes, in a way.”
- Samatoki – “You piece of—”
- Jyuto – “And here we go again.”
- Samatoki – “Well then, why don't you teach me some f*ckin' vocabulary, Mr. Know-it-All!”
- Jyuto – “You should be saying "Please, teach me!"”
- — Samatoki and Jyuto’s banter after the 2nd DRB
Samajyu is the slash ship between Samatoki Aohitsugi and Jyuto Iruma from the Hypnosis Mic fandom.
Canon[]
Jyuto is the first member of Samatoki's group MAD TRIGGER CREW. Samatoki invited Jyuto on his team after noticing his potential, promising he'll make Jyuto's dreams come true. Jyuto agreed, creating a mutually beneficial relationship with Samatoki, although their dynamic is hostile and intimate in its own way, with the two being opposite in demeanor and strategy. Jyuto, as a cop, often has to arrest Samatoki, a Katen yakuza, though Jyuto is able to commit various fraudulent activates with Samatoki's status as a yakuza. Jyuto easily gets annoyed whenever Samatoki doesn’t take him seriously, scolding him and scorning his impulsive approaches. Samatoki is also the few who manages to frustrate Jyuto, making him sweat regularly on a daily basis.
Samatoki and Jyuto regularly argue and bicker, with both of them mutually getting on their nerves despite being close friends and confidants. Jyuto is more reserved and uptight, though he sometimes joins Samatoki in talking trash or exploding in hatred. While Jyuto has a tendency to reprimand criminals he catches, Samatoki resorts to immediate violence and skips pleasantries. As a result, Jyuto often sits back and watches, exasperated by Samatoki recklessness as the former takes the reins in MAD TRIGGER CREW’s endeavors, however, he won’t hesitate in grabbing Samatoki and stopping him from acting out too much. Jyuto also notices whenever Samatoki’s nicotine deprivation is on loose.

Samatoki making fun of Jyuto
Samatoki calls Jyuto "Corrupt Cop", expressing his irritation and calling him a smartass while jumping to make fun of Jyuto at any given chance, mainly calling him a bunny. Jyuto returns these insults and insults his intelligence, while he tries to calm down and neutralize Samatoki's impulsiveness, calling him an idiot and taking on the brainier side of their endeavors. Despite their normal dynamic being that of bickering and unsavory threats, in more comedic moments they team up to avoid Rio's cooking, both terrified with Jyuto regularly bribing Samatoki to eat his meal instead.
Although they both express their mutual dislike, they both recognize their skills, teaming up and working in a coordinated and skillful manner with combined talent. Jyuto shows worry for Samatoki's condition when in peril and vice versa. Jyuto gladly insubordinates from the Party of Words to protect Samatoki from harm, angered as he says he'll do everything in his power to make Samatoki's dream come true instead and showing his uncharacteristic worry. Samatoki often scoffs whenever Jyuto thanks him or expresses sympathy, but silently shows that he appreciates Jyuto's care, and vice versa.
History[]

Jyuto and Samatoki’s first meeting
Unbeknownst to Samatoki, he met Jyuto years prior to their partnership. During the Dirty Dawg era, Jyuto was dispatched at the terrorist attack where Samatoki and Ichiro's younger siblings were held hostage by the Stairway to Heaven. Jyuto noticed Samatoki desperately trying to enter the crime scene to save Nemu, so Jyuto decided to help Samatoki and offer him a deal, that he'd let Samatoki into the building with the agreement that Samatoki testify and give all the credit for the success of the operation to Jyuto, which Samatoki accepted. Samatoki did his part and Jyuto rose through the police ranks thanks to Samatoki's help, which Jyuto would remember years later and owe his success all to Samatoki.
According to the TDD manga, shortly after Jyuto’s rise to fame, Jyuto chose to let Samatoki off scot-free despite the disturbances he was causing. Jyuto examined Samatoki’s cigarette and thought to himself how they have a connection before his subordinates wondered why he decided to ignore Samatoki’s crimes.
After Jyuto is captured and tied by a group of drug dealers he aims to stop, they prepare to kill him before Samatoki enters to intervene. Samatoki comments that he likes Jyuto's attitude, before he takes on the 22 gangsters and promptly damages them with his Hypnosis Mic. Samatoki goes to untie Jyuto, receiving his thanks as they then join forces to fight alongside and take down the criminals.
After the battle, Jyuto is hesitant but nevertheless thanks Samatoki for saving him, laughing that he's unsure whether it's alright for a cop to thank a gangster. Samatoki says there's no need for thanks, adding that he only saved Jyuto because he "seemed pretty cool" when he was dealing comebacks to the drug dealers. Jyuto sweats, flustered after Samatoki says he looks like a dude with a dream and willingness.
Jyuto denies Samatoki's praise, but the latter insists that he's not wrong. Samatoki goes to introduce himself, but Jyuto interrupts that he knows already, claiming they already met beforehand. Samatoki is confused but shrugs it off, before he suddenly asks Jyuto to team up with him. Samatoki smiles arrogantly, saying that he'll make Jyuto's dream come true. Jyuto stares in mute awe before he grins, chuckling and shaking hands with Samatoki to agree with his offer. After thinking back at their meeting, Jyuto chuckles to himself and calls Samatoki's offer "one hell of a pick-up line."

Jyuto introduces Samatoki to Rio in order to finish building MAD TRIGGER CREW. Throughout various of their endeavors, Samatoki finds Jyuto as an irritating man with a backbone, while Jyuto finds Samatoki troublesome and petty, though doesn’t hesitate in watching his back. Jyuto uses his connections with Samatoki's yakuza clan to succeed in his goals, and despite their differences, they have a shared view of justice and determination.
Samatoki, Jyuto, and Rio participate in the first DRB as MAD TRIGGER crew and are defeated by Matenro. Jyuto and Samatoki regularly meet up outside of regular training to discuss dangerous situations such as the Grasshopper drug trafficking incident, working together to take down looming threats, and occasionally showing each other their mutual sympathy.

Samajyu is a popular ship within the fandom, though it's often rivaled by Samaichi and Jyurio. Samajyu generally gets more fan fuel and personal interactions which contributes to the popularity. A main aspect of the pairing came from Samatoki being a gangster and Jyuto being a cop, working as a great “Opposites Attract” example and a generally fun and appreciated dynamic. A running joke within fans is mainly joking about Samatoki and Jyuto’s cigarette kiss, as well as many instances where Samatoki got close and personal with Jyuto while threatening him.
