Columbina“Goodbye, Sandrone.”
Sandrone“I'll... miss you too... Columbina...”
— Song of the Welkin Mooon Archon Quest - "The Night the Moon Returns Home."

SandBina is the femslash ship between Sandrone and Columbina Hyposelenia from the Genshin Impact fandom.

Canon[]

Columbina Hyposelenia, also known as “The Damselette”, runs away from the Fatui after fulfilling an unspecified deal with the Tsaritsa. Sandrone is active as the seventh of the Fatui Harbingers, codename “Marionette”, which makes them ex-colleagues. Despite the Tsaritsa’s order to retrieve the Damselette from Nod Krai, Marionette makes no attempt to do so, even when in direct proximity to Columbina. Due to increasing danger in Nod-Krai, Sandrone and Columbina band together against their shared enemy, the “Rächer of Solnari”, and eventually against the looming threat of Il Dottore’s suspicious inactivity.

Pre Archon-Quest[]

Columbina and Sandrone first appear in Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: A Winter Night’s Lazzo as “Damselette” and “Marionette”, 3rd and 7th of the Fatui Harbingers respectively. However, Sandrone’s name reveal pre-dates the teaser, with her first mention being in the description of Tartaglia’s Character Tales - “Childe: Sigil of Permission”. First insight on what their characterization may look like could be found in  the voicelines of playable Fatui Harbingers, such as Columbina’s unpredictability or Sandrone’s devotion to her machines.

Song of the Welkin Moon Archon Quest[]

Elegy of Dust and Lamplight[]

The Traveler and Paimon arrive at the Silvermoon-Hall and find Columbina in a weakened state. The topic of conversation quickly shifts from Columbina’s well-being to the increasingly dangerous Wild Hunt activities. Paimon expresses concern about being up against one of the Five Sinners and reveals that Rerir managed to defeat Marionette. At Columbina’s request, Paimon recounts how her ex-colleague was beaten by the Wild Hunt, too, which causes the Damselette to chuckle. However, she denies having laughed. When Paimon further questions if Marionette and her are on bad-terms, Columbina clarifies that she simply imagined the “put-out expression she must have worn in that moment”, which she finds “interesting”. Though Paimon remarks that Marionette seemed shaken, Columbina assures her that Sandrone is very good at adjusting.

Amidst their battle against Rerir, the Traveler, Paimon, and Flins—along with Marionette and Pulonia—are suddenly teleported into the Silvermoon Hall by Columbina through her Kuuvahki abilities. After Flins thanks the Moon Maiden for rescuing all of them, Marionette voices her disapproval of Columbina’s abrupt interference. Additionally, Marionette expresses with unwavering confidence that she and Pulonia would have defeated Rerir. They go back-and-forth; Sandrone insists that she could have beaten the Rächer of Solnari, while Columbina disagrees. Columbina retorts that Pulonia broke down when facing Rerir directly and asks Sandrone if she has been taking proper care of herself, recalling that her calculations often tend to deviate significantly when she is overworking herself. Drawing on their shared history within the Fatui, Columbina advises her to adopt a healthier routine or at least reconsider the recommendations she herself had once given during their time as colleagues. Marionette becomes visibly agitated and defensive about her defeat. She dismisses Columbina’s concerns and emphasizes that she only tolerated her nonsense previously because of their professional relationship. She also points out that there is still a warrant out on the Damselette’s head, and warns Columbina not to make her fight her right here and now. Columbina remains unfazed by Marionette’s threats and explains that she was merely concerned about her wellbeing. Marionette tells Pulonia that they will be leaving now.

In the aftermath of the fight against Rerir, the Traveler and Paimon encounter the Luonnotar in Nasha Town, and she leads them to Columbina, who is standing on a rooftop. When Paimon worries that the Fatui might see her, Columbina claims that Sandrone is uninterested in capturing her, and that the other Fatui have “more troublesome affairs to deal with.” Later in the conversation, the Traveler inquires about the Fatui again. Columbina then talks about Sandrone’s “highly irregular” daily routine, that The Doctor orders people around, and cuts herself off before elaborating on Arlecchino.

A Nation That Doesn't Exist[]

The group assembled by Varka holds a meeting to discuss the plan of action against Rerir. Columbina reveals that she knows a way to locate the Iridescent Moon’s Marrow, but it involves visiting the Fatui’s Experimental Design Bureau. Paimon asks Columbina if she wants Marionette to get involved, to which she agrees and states that she “must speak with Sandrone”.

Accompanied by the Traveler and Paimon, Columbina heads to the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau. Two Fatui guards question why the three of them dropped by; Columbina replies that she just wants “to see Sandrone”. Marionette, through the speakers, orders for them to be let in. Columbina further notes that Sandrone seems to be in a good mood. As soon as they face Sandrone, she sarcastically comments on their encounter and reminds Columbina that they’re no longer colleagues—meaning she won’t do her any favors. Sandrone claims to have only let them in out of boredom and reiterates that she will not repeat past mistakes. Columbina finally reveals that she wishes to speak to Arlecchino and further elaborates that Rerir is hunting her. The Traveler emphasizes that they are only doing this to stop him, but Marionette blames Columbina for the unsettled score. Columbina changes the subject, asking Sandrone if she held any tea parties in recent times. She appears to be surprised by the question, but affirms the notion, and promptly maintains they have been “more eventful than ever”, while also complaining about the “insolent, insensitive guests” who won’t stop asking where the Damselette has gone. Columbina recalls that Sandrone used to serve her the worst tea whenever she upset her and assumes she did the same to those guests. In return Sandrone poses the question: “Who cares about how good the tea is when there’s no one around to drink it?” And with a lowered voice adds, “I keep losing people…” Suggesting she does care about the guests of her tea party.

She goes on to share how she has already lost Rosalyne and now she is losing Columbina too. Sandrone confesses that she is running out of people who can make her laugh. She even chuckles at the memory of Columbina, a multi-centenarian goddess, who has only ever had plain herbal tea. Sensing Sandrone’s change in demeanor, Columbina reflects on how Sandrone would brew a different kind of tea for her each time and asks if it was merely to observe her reactions. Taken aback, Sandrone stammers before admitting that watching Columbina squirm was her only form of entertainment. The Traveler and Paimon arrive at the conclusion that all the coldness is just an act and that the two actually get along. Afterwards, Marionette reminisces that Capitano used to bring Tartaglia along to their gatherings, though she doubts they will see him again anytime soon. She remarks that they’re overdue for a get-together and instructs Pulonia to send a simple message through Fevroniya to Arlecchino to let her know it’s time for tea. In response, Columbina also adds a message of her own, saying her body cannot contain the marrow of two moons and that she will leave one of them in Arlecchino’s care. Sandrone quickly questions whether the Damselette was even invited to the aforementioned tea party, and reminds Columbina that if her tea had truly meant so much to her, quitting the Fatui wasn’t her brightest move.

Sandrone then recalls how, under the Tsaritsa’s protection, no one dared to openly challenge Columbina, which once ensured her safety. Columbina retorts that such protection came at a steep price. She admits to exhaustion, confessing that she never sought to be part of the Tsaritsa’s grand ambitions and resented being treated as an endless source of power. Her words evoke memories of an older time when she was worshiped as the Moon Goddess, contrasting the reverence of the past with the greed she now sees in the eyes of the Fatui, despite the changing faces over centuries. Sandrone responds with a mix of understanding and caution. She expresses empathy for Columbina’s choice, says she anticipated her eventual departure, and clarifies that she has no intention of forcing her back, regardless of orders from higher-ups. However, she then warns her that if she continues to associate with those “riffraffs”, referring to Traveler and Paimon, their next encounter might not be so amicable. Amid this tension, the Traveler silently observes, noting the irony in Marionette’s words—although she warns Columbina against fraternizing with certain groups, she herself just agreed to help her.

As the group prepares to leave, Marionette mentions that their departure might not be as simple as they hoped. Someone wants them to stay longer. An alarm sounds and Ozerov announces that the Wild Hunt is charging toward the facility. Marionette orders the area cleared. Paimon protests, worried that Marionette is sending them away to face danger alone. Marionette dismisses their concern and tells them to leave quickly, reminding them that the Experimental Design Bureau is rigged for war and that the weapon system won’t recognize them as friendly. Despite the warning, she adds that a secret passage on the second floor leads to safety on the plains outside. Columbina is visibly saddened. Sandrone gets frustrated by the emotional atmosphere and scolds her for getting caught up in the sentimental nonsense of those she keeps company with. As Marionette turns away, she tells Columbina that she won’t be receiving another invitation to her tea party. Columbina thanks her and they promptly leave.

The Traveler, Paimon and Columbina get attacked by the Wild Hunt. Arlecchino comes to rescue them and immediately agrees with Sandrone’s assessment that Columbina looks “weak”.

An Elegy for Faded Moonlight[]

Before the battle against Rerir, Columbina and Dainsleif have a conversation. Due to certain similar experiences, they understand each other and exchange advice. In this talk, Dainsleif points out that both Arlecchino and Sandrone seem to view Columbina as their friend, further leading her to re-examine her time at the Fatui.

After the fight against the Rächer of Solnari, Columbina and Sandrone are shown to have tea together at the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau. The scene opens with Sandrone voicing her irritation. Columbina states that her reason for visiting was to inform her that the two of them and Arlecchino should be friends. Sandrone urges her to leave, and Columbina consequently enquires if Sandrone doesn’t wish to be friends with her. Sandrone promptly orders Pulonia to see Lady Columbina to the door. However, the Moon Maiden catches Sandrone off-guard by asking if she will still invite her to her next tea party, adding that she believes she will before Sandrone has the chance to answer herself. Columbina bids farewell with a “Bye-bye, dear Sandrone.”

The Traveler and Paimon arrive right after. Marionette’s initial reaction is dismissive, even threatening to escort them out herself, but her voice softens once the Traveler mentions the teacups on the table. Nevertheless, she explains sharply that the visitor before them managed to kill her appetite. She allows the Traveler and Paimon to partake in the tea-party, during which Sandrone reminisces about the Narzissenkreuz Ordo.

A Nocturne for the Far North[]

The battle with Rerir and the rejection from Teyvat leave Columbina severely weakened, to the point of becoming incorporeal. Believing her own time to be up, she decides to wander around Nod-Krai for one last look. In Nasha Town, when she witnesses an argument between two old friends, Columbina is reminded of the times Sandrone threatened to remove her vocal cords for singing in the middle of the night, and she wonders whether their quarrels were Sandrone’s awkward attempts at friendship. Columbina is regretful that she won’t “get the chance to say any ugly things in reply.”

Later, Columbina follows the Traveler, Varka, and Wanderer to a meeting with Arlecchino and Sandrone for a lead on her true name. Still invisible to everyone else, Columbina repeatedly prods at Sandrone’s cheek, with Sandrone being none the wiser. In the same meeting, Sandrone reminisces about her past with Columbina and confirms that Columbina did not know her own name, confident that she would not have lied “considering [their] relationship.” Sandrone is irritated when recalling a rumor being spread of Columbina only receiving the position of Third Harbinger by virtue of her pretty voice. Sandrone then concedes that such a rumor was hard to refute, given that Columbina was never assigned any missions and spent most of her days singing in the flower garden—a fact that had Sandrone fuming. Hearing Sandrone lament her own bad luck, Columbina says to her, although she cannot hear, that she had “done [her] job exceptionally well all this time. Because at heart, [she is] a conscientious person.” When the Traveler says that they would like to shout Columbina’s real name from the rooftops, Sandrone comments that “Columbina” is still the most shoutable name, and that after using it in so many arguments, she can’t be bothered to learn a new one.

Melting Moonlight in the Morning Mist[]

During the celebration of Moon-Prayer Night, Sandrone approaches Columbina. She sarcastically comments on Columbina’s prior disappearance, and remarks that she didn’t think Columbina would be back in time. Columbina then asks Sandrone if she was worried about her. Although Sandrone dismisses this, Columbina points out that she disguised herself with “festive headgear” and didn’t bring Pulonia just so she could come see her on Moon-Prayer Night, and make sure she’s okay. Columbina correctly guesses that Marionette is wearing cat-ears. Sandrone claims she is here to protect the Fatui’s interests, but Columbina notes that Marionette was the one to ask Arlecchino to help everyone find her name. As a result, Sandrone threatens Columbina, warning her that she will unscrew her vocal cords if she says another word. Columbina says she missed Sandrone and that while she was gone, she hoped she would get a chance to say some ugly words to her.

Through further provocation, Columbina manages to convince Sandrone to play “Frostfin Whale” with her, a game where players get bitten if they step on the wrong tooth. Columbina tells Sandrone that if she wins, she will “beat her head in.” They begin to play the game, and Sandrone gets bitten. As promised, Columbina bonks her on the head. Sandrone realizes that Columbina is able to sense which tooth is bad through Kuuvahki, and concludes that as long as she avoids the same ones as her, she should be able to win. She loses again, as there are multiple bad teeth, and receives another bonk from Columbina. She then proceeds to lose another two times. Sandrone  throws a tantrum, leading Columbina to offer Sandrone the chance to hit her back on the head as a consolation prize for “losing so badly.” Sandrone refuses and instead goes on a rant about the many ways in which Columbina has annoyed her over the years; singing outside her door, inviting herself to her tea parties, going AWOL, and lastly, leaving for the moon.

Columbina reiterates that the times she spent with Sandrone, Arlecchino and Rosalyne were her favourite, and promises she will neither forget them nor this moment. She asks Sandrone if they will always be friends, and although Sandrone tries to argue, she is rendered speechless by Columbina hugging her. Sandrone slowly lowers her arms. Columbina holds her, and tells her once again that she will miss her. Sandrone hesitates before attempting to reach for Columbina, but the latter breaks away from the hug. Their hands barely miss each other. After Columbina leaves, Sandrone turns around with a saddened expression on her face and admits that she will miss her, too.

Paimon suddenly pops up behind Marionette, which audibly frightens her. Sandrone angrily questions what the Traveler and Paimon want from her. Paimon then explains that, as one of Columbina’s friends, Sandrone should add something to the card; a farewell gift to Columbina. She agrees and draws herself and a tiny Columbina getting bitten by the Frostfin Whale, while mumbling that Columbina “doesn’t know how lucky she is”. Throughout their conversation, the Traveler reveals that they snapped a photo of Marionette getting bitten by the Frostfin Whale, and Columbina bonking her on the head. Sandrone screams at them to tear it up.

Upon approaching Sandrone after the scene finishes, she questions what there is to see on the moon, anyway, and that Columbina can go and cry up there alone.

In a hidden follow-up interaction, Columbina gives Moon-Prayer Candy to Sandrone. The candy has extra-strong coffee flavour, a taste Sandrone particularly likes. She remarks that she thought Columbina hated coffee, and rhetorically questions if Columbina did this just for her.

Selenic Chronicles[]

Part I: Her Past[]

The Traveler and Paimon search for Columbina, only for her to suddenly appear behind them. Her presence startles Paimon and she proceeds to dramatically protest. Columbina merely tilts her head and explains that after sensing their arrival, she wanted to see how close she could get without being noticed. Paimon asks whether she did this out of boredom, to which Columbina responds that it is no different than when she was with the Fatui and that there was never much for her to do. She elaborates that the Tsaritsa only sought the power of the Moon Goddesses, never assigning her any grand missions like seizing a Gnosis. When the Traveler asks how she used to pass time, Columbina recalls her hobbies during her stay with the Fatui. She took walks, watched the Moon and sometimes sang, but notes that she came to do the latter less after Sandrone forbade it. Paimon asks if Marionette disliked her singing but Columbina denies this and instead tells them that Sandrone praised it, actually. However, she told her that the singing made the others feel uneasy because it seemed like she was using some kind of mysterious power. Another reason was that Sandrone did most of her research at night, so if Columbina sang during the day, it would disturb her sleep. The Traveler assumes that must have been the real reason before Columbina reveals that she then proceeded to sing outside Sandrone’s door at night instead. The Traveler and Paimon fall silent.

Part II: A Toast Beneath the Moon[]

The Traveler and Paimon visit the Silvermoon Hall. During their conversation, the topic of beverages comes up. The Traveler offers to mix a drink for Columbina and shortly after hands her a cup of coffee. Columbina sniffs the drink and remarks that she has smelled something similar before, specifically in Sandrone’s room. She recalls that Sandrone once had a beverage with the same aroma. It intrigued her so much that, when Sandrone noticed her interest, she refused to finish the drink and simply held onto it, as if she was waiting for the Damselette to ask about it.

Upon the Traveler’s inquiry, Columbina admits she did ask her eventually. Paimon eagerly asks about the details. The Damselette confesses that her question was, “Shouldn’t you be drinking engine oil instead?” When the Traveler asks how Sandrone reacted, Columbina hesitates and explains that she said something too unpleasant to repeat. After trying the drink herself, Columbina lost interest, and mentions it was “a little bitter” and “all in all, not very good”. She believes this explains why Sandrone looked so sour while drinking it. Paimon, however, guesses that Sandrone’s bad mood was likely caused by other reasons.

In a subsequent dialogue, Columbina thanks the Traveler for satisfying her curiosity, and says she will be sure not to trust Sandrone’s taste ever again.

World Quest[]

The Empty Courtyard[]

Columbina sacrifices herself by intentionally escaping through the Moon Gate, a portal known as the Moon’s reflection. This mysterious world, which had previously affected Tholindis and the Rächer of Solnari, Rerir, later vanishes, leaving only unknown remnants behind. Following this event, the Traveler and Paimon search for Columbina at the Silvermoon Hall, seeking any lingering existence of Columbina’s presence. However, as expected Columbina is nowhere to be found. The hall only answers with Kuuhenkis and the Luonnotar, mourning for Columbina’s absence. The Traveler then plays the lyre to remind and encourage them with the familiar lullaby that is meant to calm their hearts. After their performance, the Traveler and Paimon choose to let the sleepy Kuuhenkis rest undisturbed.

As the Traveler and Paimon step out of the Silvermoon Hall, they unexpectedly encounter Sandrone without Pulonia by her side. Sandrone walks towards the entrance of the Silvermoon Hall and freezes upon noticing  the Traveler and Paimon. When Paimon questions what she is doing here, Sandrone quickly averts her gaze and responds defensively claiming that she was merely taking a walk. The Traveler then mentions that Columbina has not returned yet, causing Sandrone to slowly lower her guard. Her expression shifts and she murmurs to herself, “Thought as much.” Sandrone says there’s no such thing as a miracle that could hasten Columbina’s return. When Paimon inquires about her path and offers to accompany Sandrone, given how seldom they meet, Sandrone declines, saying she’s not in the mood for any company and has nothing pleasant to say at that moment. Unlike her usual sassy temperament, her voice remains subdued. With a final measured step, Sandrone remarks that comfort is the last thing this place needs, then vanishes from sight as she turns and walks away.

Fanon[]

Prior to version Luna I the ship between Sandrone and Columbina was little known. A small part of the fandom took interest in the pairing after the Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: A Winter Night’s Lazzo due to their aesthetics and the subtle hints on what their personality and interactions may look like. At that time, the only available information about Sandrone and Columbina mostly stemmed from the voicelines of other playable harbingers. Nevertheless, fans theorized they might engage in entertaining banter, citing that both Sandrone and Columbina made sarcastic comments in the aforementioned teaser.

Although they were a rare-pair pre-Nod-Krai, things took a turn when Act 2 of the Nod Krai Archon Quest was released. Players began to like Columbina and Sandrone primarily because their shared moment in that Act hinted at both their strengths and vulnerabilities amid a charged discussion. Multiple of their interactions involve snarky but comedic exchanges that create a push-and-pull tension, making their conversations engaging. Columbina, with her kind but blunt nature, unintentionally acts as a “ragebaiter” which provokes Sandrone to respond harshly despite the good intentions.

It was around this time that twitter user Nomi posted an animation of Sandrone and Columbina kissing titled “How Columbina comforts Sandrone when she's in a bad mood”, which gained massive traction within the Genshin Impact community, overtaking most official character trailers in engagement.[1]

Beneath the entertaining banter their actions repeatedly indicate that their connection goes beyond the conflict at hand and the tense relationship as former colleagues. Columbina was once revered as the Moon-Goddess of Nod-Krai. She fled from the people’s greed and ambition only to find that the Fatui treated her similarly. Additionally, the Fatui subordinates were frightened by the potential power the third of the Fatui Harbingers might possess, which caused Columbina to lead a lonely life among another group of people. Although Marionette wondered why Columbina was given the third seat yet never utilized by the Tsaritsa, the difference in ranks didn’t intimidate her. As stated in the Voicelines of other Harbingers, Sandrone rarely appeared in public and spent most of her time working on her research. Despite this, Columbina and her made many memories together as Columbina would often sing outside her door. Sandrone regularly invited Columbina to her tea-parties and even let her try different flavors. At the time, since she didn’t like the taste, Columbina thought Sandrone gave her the worst tea she had as punishment for annoying her.

However, when the tea-parties are discussed as part of the Nod-Krai Archon Quest, Columbina wonders if this truly was the only reason Sandrone brewed her a different cup each time. The Traveler speculates that Marionette was genuinely trying to introduce Columbina to new flavors. In the same exchange, Columbina assumes she will be invited to the next tea-party, leading Sandrone to show vulnerability. She remarks that if her tea had truly meant that much to Columbina, quitting the Fatui wasn’t her brightest move. In addition to Marionette not bothering to carry out the Pale Star Edict and dragging Columbina back to Snezhnaya, this further suggests Sandrone's reasoning for being upset with her was much more personal than she first led on.

Columbina teases Sandrone for losing to Rerir yet she rescued her in the first place. Sandrone tells Columbina she doesn’t care about her new name but was the one that asked Arlecchino to assist in the matter of finding it. Even the Traveler concludes that, “Maybe all that coldness is just an act… and they actually get along?” As a result of their often times deceptive behaviour, when analysing their encounters to understand the dynamic on a deeper level, the fandom tends to focus on what Sandrone and Columbina chose to do as opposed to what they say.[2]

The pairing’s appeal lies largely in this blend of mutual history, restrained concern, and misspoken emotions. Their relationship so far tells a story of two lonely people that found companionship in each other, yet neither of them were prepared to acknowledge how much they mean to each other until the story threatened to separate them once more. Despite neither of them being human—one is a robot, the other a moon goddess—their relationship comes across as very human; both the struggle to let go and the hesitation to admit this would hurt in the first place.

Due to their mutual care becoming more apparent as the Archon Quests progress, even if not always viewed through a romantic lens, the close nature of their relationship is acknowledged in Fandom discussions. Additionally, since Sandrone regularly tries to conceal her fondness of Columbina with insults, she is often referred to as a “Tsundere”.

In fanfiction, writers will commonly explore the possibilities of their relationship were the circumstances different; if Columbina wasn’t at risk by settling in Teyvat or if they had stayed colleagues.
