Episode 2[]

Amaya and Sanda are classmates and roommates, though the two were never particularly close. In the second episode of the anime, Amaya greets Sanda and tells him that he knows Sanda's secret identity. Amaya tazes Sada which causes him to pass on their dorm room floor. Their classmates entered the room about Ono's funeral, which Amaya lies and tells them that Sanda fell asleep and that they will catch up later.

Sanda wakes up tied to a chair the science lab in his adult Santa Clause form alongside Fuyumura. Amaya reveals that he knows that Santa exists. He apologizes for the rough treatment, claiming that he had no choice. Sanda asks how Amaya knew about his secret identity. Amaya answers that when him and Fuyumura blew up the science laboratory, he stayed behind and witnessed Sanda's transformation. Amaya admits that he was surprised, saying that he had not expected the "class clown" to have a secret identity. Sanda asks what Amaya wants, prompting the latter to admit that they have no particular demands. Amaya asks if Santa seriously believes that all kids want something from him. Amaya says that he admits he just enjoys having other people under his thumb. Amaya says that he is on Santa Clause's naughty list. Amaya continues by stating that he can get away with anything because he is fourteen. Amaya asks what he should do with Santa, calling him "grandpa" as he even brings up that he could get away with murdering an adult given how youths are treated in modern day Japan.

Sanda tells Amaya that he is still the same age as him, even in his Santa Clause form and to let Fuyumura go. Amaya expresses surprise when he sees Fuyumura and Sanda protect one another, claiming that it is rare to see "an adult and kid" have faith in one another. Amaya then says that he will release both of them if they kiss each other. He elaborates that he doesn't want them to just peck each other on the lips, but to suck each other's faces. Sanda is infuriated by this and tells Amaya that he never knew how rotten he was and that he would never cross that line. Amaya questions what "line" he is referring to. Sanda, who is in his adult form, states that because Fuyumura is a child that he cannot lay a hand on her. Sanda claims that his Santa Clause genes would never allow him to break a taboo like that. Fuyumura and Sanda argue which causes Amaya to laugh with amusement, saying that they should hurry up before someone sees them.

Sanda breaks free from his binds, overcome with rage at the revelations that kids who are cruel, violent or selfish (i.e. Amaya) are not adorable. Sanda breaks free, telling Amaya that it is time for a spanking while calling him a bastard. Amaya only laughs, telling Sanda that he is endlessly entertaining. Sanda realizes that his sleigh runners are deadly, which prompts Amaya to question what he said before about never laying a hand on a child. He claims that it is a little disturbing, which Sanda agrees with.

That is when the headmaster enters the room where he finds Amaya. Fuyumura and Sanda managed to hide before being caught. Amaya is unnerved by the headmaster, who questions is he is harboring emotional trauma of some kind. Amaya frantically denies having any burdens or traumas, claiming that he is happy every day. The headmaster is about to escort Amaya down to the semi-basement, where they place the "problem children". Sanda goes to rescue Amaya, even cutting headmaster Oshibu's face with his sleigh feet. Sanda claims that he has his power so that he can protect "these bastards" (i.e. Amaya and Fuyumura) from scummy grown-ups like Oshibu.

After distracting headmaster Oshibu, Sanda grabs Fuyumura and Amaya before running away. The trio winds up on the rooftop where Amaya states that he doubts the principal would follow them up to the roof, stating that was "too close". Fuyumura pins Amaya to the ledge of the rooftop and making him bleed. Sanda is shocked and tries to stop Fuyumura from killing him. This prompts Amaya to admit that he is on a mission of his own. Sanda tells Amaya to take his advice as his roomate, telling him that the pitiful puppy dog eye look is not going to work on dissuading Fuyumura.

Amaya swears that him being on a mission is truth and that he just wants Santa Clause to make his rounds again. Amaya tells Fuyumura and Sanda that his family runs a cake shop that is about to closed down because a lack of sales and Japan's failing economy. Amaya says that if people found out that the Santa Clause legend is true then his family could bounce back and profit more during December, like they did before. Sanda stops Fuyumura from hurting Amaya as he can tell that the latter is being truthful, seeing his family's cake shop in the distance. Amaya thanks Sanda for believing him. Sanda tells him not to ask anything from him before he tests something out. Sanda eats a brownie and goes back to his original form, having the other two promise to keep what happened a secret. Amaya promises that he will not tell anyone Sanda's secret, in return for Sanda's protection and favor to him.

Amaya freaks out over his head wound and rushes over to Sanda to ask if he thinks he will get a bald spot there. Sanda tells him not to be such a drama queen, while Amaya complains that it stings a lot.

Episode 7[]

Amaya attempts to break off his friendship with Sanda. He rationalizes this by indicating that Principal Oshibu realizes that Fuyumura and Amaya are working with Sanda. So, if he notices that they're close friends with Sanda, then it would put him in danger. Sanda does not react well to the notion of having his friendship with the two broken off, though. Amaya locks himself in their dorm room, which Sanda goes into a frenzy over while the other boys walk away in annoyance.

Sanda transforms into Santa Clause to climb up the wall to reach Amaya, who opens the window and is shocked by the sight. When Sanda loses his footing, Amaya grabs Santa to ensure he does not fall. Sanda as Santa is way too heavy to pull up. The two are startled when Fuyumura kicks in the door, just in time for Amaya to accidentally drop Sanda. Ultimately, Sanda and Amaya reconcile with one another choosing to remain friends despite the danger.

At the end of the episode, Amaya and Fuyumura find out that Sanda went to the classroom for children that have killed adults at some point in their life. Amaya, in particular, becomes extremely worried so he and Fuyumura head to the classroom. The two bust down the door of Class 10, prepared to help him.

Episode 8[]

Fuyumura and Amaya distract their peers in Class 10 long enough for Sanda to escape from the children, who were trying to take his thumbs. The three go on the rooftop to discuss the matter.

During a card game, the other boys are speculating on Sanda's relationships with Niko and Fuyumura. Amaya tells the other boys that he does not think he is stringing along either girl or that he has other things he's preoccupied with. The other boys continue discussing the matter, getting flustered over the notion of Sanda "doing things" with Niko. Amaya is unfazed, however, completing and winning the game while they were distracted.

Episode 9[]

Sanda and Amaya meet up alongside Yaguida in the gym. There, Sanda tells Amaya to shoot him so he can practice for his fight against Namatame. Amaya, frightened by guns, admits that despite his bravado, he's still a kid and frightened by guns. Amaya tells him to ask Fuyumura to shoot him, because she has nerves of steel. Yaguida grabs Amaya's hands and assists him in holding the gun. Amaya tells him to stop because he does not want to shoot Sanda. Though he ends up doing so anyway, likely be accident. Sanda calls him out for not wanting him dead enough, but he says that doesn't want to. Yaguida and Sanda pressure Amaya in continuing despite him not wanting to. Amaya pushes through his reservations, anxious about having to shoot his best friend. Though he gives him a headshot that is rather effective.

Amaya continues until he is out of bullets, covered in blood and shaken by his own actions. Sanda grabs his hand and tells him 'thank you'.

Amaya laments that he has been turned into a gunman and child soldier at fourteen while they're eating ramen together. Amaya anxiously asks if Sanda if he is okay after being pumped full of lead by him. Though he is relieved that Sanda is okay, he expresses that his mental scars from shooting him time and time again are going to leave mental scars. Sanda apologizes, saying that he hadn't thought about it that way. Amaya angrily storms off, claiming he thinks Sanda is doing this to become a stronger man more than to become a stronger Santa Clause. Sanda goes after him, trying to explain himself.

Sanda is later shown in the school building pleading with Amaya not to be angry with him. He tries to tug at his arm while Amaya pulls away, saying that he does not want to talk about it. When Fuyumura appears, the two sober automatically and express concern over their friend. Amaya merely places his jacket over her nude form while she hugs and confides in Sanda.

Episode 10[]

Sanda and Amaya are shown early in the episode hanging out with Yagiuda, who relays a story from his youth to them. They are later shown leaving for the festival together, During the festival, the pair are shown eating together and talking about the festival with one another. When Sanda is fighting Namatame as Black Santa, Yagiuda has to stop Amaya from jumping in to try and help. Yagiuda outright tells Anaya that him getting hurt would cause Sanda much more pain than getting shot.

Episode 11[]

Amaya thinks to himself that he hopes that Sanda and Fuyumura are safe. That's when he finds them huddled watching Namatame. That's when he confronts them and questions what they are doing. While they discuss what to do, Sanda asks if Amaya has any bratty beans (to turn back into a kid). Amaya responds that he always says he has them handy when Sanda is around. Sanda downs them, to which Amaya tells him to take it easy.

Fanon[]

Sanmaya is a popular ship across the SANDA fandom. Many people ship them alongside FuyuOno, especially as it is speculated that Fuyumura may not be interested in boys despite Sanda's brief crush on her.

These two are often shipped as Sanda and Fuyumura are the only two who know about Amaya's real personality. Amaya and Sanda are also roommates and became best friends even despite getting off on the wrong foot. For this reason, many people enjoyed their dynamic more than other ships involving them. There are also theories that Amaya is gay as well as speculation that he developed a crush on Sanda.

The pair have a small amount of fan works on A03 under the SANDA (manga) tag total because it is a rather small fandom. Currently, they have under 10 fan works. They are each other's most written ships on A03 as of the anime's release.
