No matter how many destinies I have, I entrust them all in your hands. The Do-Re-Mi of my life, Tragic Comedy. [Sasara's MC name]
—Rosho about Sasara in the song Fate -ENISHI-

Sasarosho is the slash ship between Sasara Nurude and Rosho Tsutsujimori from the Hypnosis Mic fandom.

Canon[]

Sasara met Rosho while they were students at a comedy academy. They were immediately opposites in demeanor, as Rosho's humor was extremely dry with a complex punchline, while Sasara resorted to punny and ridiculous jokes. Intially, Sasara viewed Rosho as a strange, emotionless delinquent, but after they got to know each other, he quickly recognized his potential and wanted to team up with him. Sasara first defended Rosho, a stranger, at the academy’s interview and ended up flunking to brighten the mood on Rosho’s behalf. Afterwards, Sasara decides to keep his distance from Rosho, but later meets him at the Tsutenkaku tower staring over the city.

Sasara is contemplating his career and wondering whether he can succeed in a solo act, but he panics when Rosho suddenly jumps to climb the fence. Sasara pulls him back, assuming him to be jumping, screaming at him to stop and trying to talk him out of the action. Rosho is confused but later as they discuss at a cafe nearby, Rosho explains he was looking for inspiration by climbing the fence. Sasara was confused but intrigued by the strange style of humor as Rosho huffs and explains he’ll share his new idea “just for you.” Sasara is more interested by Rosho and calls his technique “too high-level” for him. Nevertheless, Rosho thanks Sasara for sticking up for him earlier at the interview and for grabbing him from the fence. Sasara would then recognize Rosho’s potential instantly after he shares he became an entertainer to make people laugh in the now. Sasara felt like his funny bone was telling him to team up with Rosho, so he was determined to start a partnership.

Rosho teams up with Sasara

Rosho decides he wants to team up with Sasara

To decide his next course of action, Sasara tests Rosho’s perspective and is confident to be his parent. Sasara encourages Rosho to continue chasing his dreams, stating he cherishes Rosho's odd sense of humor and great sense of perspective. Sasara laughs and says he finds Rosho’s jokes awesome, making him blush and remain silent—Sasara critiques Rosho and adds that he only needs to view things in a different perspective, and these very words would prove to stick with Rosho for years. Sasara claims that Rosho’s humor is far too complex, as he attempts to showcase Rosho’s dry style of comedy, and they quickly attracted a crowd fawning over their skillful and entertaining dynamic. As a result, Rosho went along with Sasara’s improv reluctantly, soon realizing they worked well as a team. So, he accepted Sasara’s invitation to team up, and they formed Dotsuitare Hompo.

Their dynamic was easily established, as Sasara himself would comment that Rosho always played the straight man around his silly antics and that their comedic duo would be a great hit with the audience. Although Rosho found Sasara ridiculous, he was glad to team up with him and realized his natural-born talent. Sasara and Rosho climbed the ranks as Dotsuitare Hompo, now one of the most popular comedy duos in the city. Sasara would always pull a comedically stupid antic, and Rosho would show his exasperation, and their skits managed to make all of their audience laugh and smile. Sasara adored all their on-screen and off-screen interactions, laughing at how Rosho would snap at him or find his jokes unfunny. Nevertheless, they built a strong bond that never failed to make a bystander smile.

At some point, Sasara observed that Rosho had an aggressive face that made him look unapproachable. Rosho slams his fist down and denies this comment, irritated, and this makes Sasara keel over and laugh madly. Nevertheless, Sasara digs up some old glasses and offered it to Rosho for him to wear in order to "soften" his look, and this became a success shortly after. Sasara recognized their duo worked best with the "Straight Man Funny Man" dynamic they built, so they became a hit even more after Sasara's advice. Outside of their professional endeavors, Sasara and Rosho went out together often, one example being an aquarium visit they made sometime during their partnership, which Sasara would fondly remember later.

“Sasara’s honeyed words captured us all, didn’t they?”
— Rosho’s internal dialogue to Sasara

Rosho would smile at Sasara’s “honeyed words” as he described it, admiring his talented improvisation and his keen ability to make the audience laugh. Despite their budding friendship and well-earned success, Rosho started to have doubts about whether he was cut out for being a comedian. He slowly began to process that Sasara was the true outlier who always made the audience laugh. Rosho started to feel that he contributed nothing to their team, and he tried his best to keep the comedy going. During a finals, Rosho tried to pull an improv joke at one of their shows, and it ended in deadbeat silence. He realized he was unable to make anyone laugh without Sasara’s help, and even with all the support he began to falter. Sasara noticed how off Rosho was but opted to remain silent.

“When I’m with you…Standing at the top of the world and looking out…”

Rosho stares at Sasara with his regrets

Although Sasara didn't mind this and instead focused on the fun and rivalry of the competitions they entered together, the final straw hit when at a final's tournament, Rosho began to panic pre-performance. As the show began, Rosho froze up and succumbed to his anxiety and had a nervous breakdown. Rosho unable to say a single word as he began to cry, muttering a slight apology to Sasara and feeling guilt swallow over him. Although Sasara covered for him, with Rosho’s mishap, Dotsuitare Hompo got second place with a failure, but Sasara was content and determined to keep trying.

“I was furious at myself for being such a coward. And then on top of that, I felt like I was ruining everything for you and your talent. My anger almost overwhelmed my fear. …I felt like I was in hell.”
— Rosho explaining why he left Sasaro

However, Rosho was angered at himself for freezing up at a crucial moment in their career, and moreover upset that he was only dragging down Sasara and his talent. As he would describe later, Rosho felt as though he was in hell. With this, Rosho made up his mind to quit the team, disappointed in himself for giving up but determined to let Sasara spread his wings without holding him back. Rosho would explain that later he realized their partnership couldn't work since Sasara was naturally talented while Rosho only played his straight man, something that wasn't enough for their partnership.

Sasara opens his eyes for the first time

Sasara opens his eyes for the first time after Rosho says he’s leaving

Rosho showed up in front of Sasara’s door, drenched in rain. Sasara was startled, but Rosho then announced he wanted to leave their group. This left Sasara was heartbroken as he widened his eyes for the first time on-screen. He planned to say anything that could change Rosho’s mind, shocked and pained. Sasara asked why, and Rosho apologized, looking down. Sasara began to blame himself, realizing if he had let the situation get this bad, and that he already noticed how off Rosho was. Nevertheless, he realized he was only hurting Rosho by asking him to stay, and resorted to accepting the break-up. Sasara was unable to let go of their partnership, as he'd remain adamant about declining all duo or team collaborations.

Post Break-up[]

Samatoki reminds Sasara of Rosho

Sasara sees Rosho in Samatoki when they first meet

When Sasara met Samatoki while the former was engaged in a violent fight, Sasara grabbed Samatoki’s fist and cracked an unfunny joke, making Samatoki pause and ask, “What?” Sasara jumped back, surprised as he saw a resemblance of Rosho in Samatoki, making him startled but interested. For the next weeks, Sasara would go on to help Samatoki because he bore a resemblance to Rosho. When asked he explained that Samatoki reminded him of an old friend, and he enjoyed the similar air Samatoki carried, as Sasara missed their old duo.

Sasara unable to forget Rosho

Sasara thinking about Rosho

Sasara was unable to let go of Rosho and found himself unintentionally remembering their relationship, constantly comparing Samatoki to Rosho and feeling glum. Even with their separate paths, Sasara would refer to Rosho as his good friend and his old partner, baring no grudges and instead hoping that Rosho would surpass him and live a better life after their group.

Sasara heads to an aquarium and ends up remembering an old event where Rosho scolded him for calling the aquariums "Fish galleries." Absentmindedly, Sasara begins to laugh and snicker while reliving the old memory, snapping out of it and gasping, realizing he was getting lost in his thoughts.

ANOTHER rosho memory from sasara

Months later, Sasara was unable to stop thinking about Rosho and consoled Kuko. He asked if he could try monk training to change his perspective on things, namely the break-up with Rosho, and during their 7 day training trip, Sasara attempts to cheer up a suicidal man they met and helped out. Sasara remembers Rosho’s weird sense of comedy and tries it out on Kuko and the man, and Kuko ends up laughing hysterically. This makes Sasara smile as he talks to Rosho in his head, telling him he found someone who likes Rosho’s humor.

Rosho thinks back at Sasara

On the other hand, Rosho still wore the fake glasses Sasara gave him even when it was no use to him. Rosho put his focus back into academics and became a teacher to support the youth's dreams after giving up on his own. One day, he ran into a duo of teenagers who aspired to become comedians, and they shared a similar straight-funny man dynamic as Dotsuitare Hompo. Rosho recognized the resemblance of them, so he opted to share the same advice that Sasara once told him, explaining that Machida’s perspective was as valuable and unique like none other, but that he needed to view it in an outsider’s shoes. Afterwards, Rosho thought back at Sasara and smiled fondly. This quickly encouraged the two, and Rosho would later beg Machida’s mother to stop urging Machida to quit his dreams. Rosho reveals he deeply regretted giving up but that dreams were worth chasing.

Reuniting[]

“It's been so long since we got to go back and forth like this, huh? I always have so much fun--hey, you could even say I'm as hoppy as a frog!”

Four years later around the time of the second DRB, Sasara breaks into Rosho's apartment using a spare key he copied years ago. Rosho is startled and annoyed and immediately slaps Sasara on the head, making him laugh and state he missed Rosho’s anger. Rosho is horrified at how Sasara got into his apartment, and he states how Sasara is just as troublesome as he remembered, but Sasara laughs about how overjoyed he is to see Rosho again, pestering and teasing him. Even with their matured values, they would share the same dynamic of Rosho acting as the straight man in the chaos, with Sasara missing their old dynamic. Rosho snatches Sasara's spare key angrily, fuming. However, Sasara brings out 10 more keys to Rosho's apartment much to his complete shock.

Sasara asks Rosho who he trusts more

Rosho , irritated, asks why Sasara is visiting in the first place, so he grimly switches to warn Rosho about his new side gig with Rei Amayado. Rosho doesn’t believe Sasara, leading him to grab his shoulder and ask if he trusts a guy he just met, or his old partner. However, unexpectedly, Rosho mutters, “…The pudding.” With Sasara’s confusion, Rosho brings up multiple instances where Sasara was unreliable, such as when he didn’t pay back 5 dollars. Sasara begs in to laugh and calls all those examples petty and resorts to table their discussion later, and Rosho, annoyed, calls Sasara stupid. Sasara goes on to his original goal, where he asks Rosho if they could team up again.

Sasara shakes Rosho

Sasara shakes Rosho rapidly begging him to reconsider

Rosho denies the offer hesitantly and grows irate, and Sasara begins to shake him, performing theatrics of misery and asking, “Why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why!?” Rosho explains he’s heading to meet the talent scouter with his student, and Sasara ends up begging to tag along to meet the fishy individual.

Afterwards, Sasara and Roso wait at the cafe, and Sasara continually makes cheesy and unapologetic jokes, making Rosho snap, slamming the table and wondering where Rei had gone, revealing the two had been waiting at the cafe for over an hour. Sasara tells Rosho to clam own and he apologizes for the outburst, and shortly after Rei appears. Sasara recognizes Rei as the con artist who was stiffing Rosho, so he immediately alerts Rosho while huffing. Rosho is confused by the predicament as Rei begins to laugh, stating he didn't expect Sasara to know Rosho so well. Nevertheless, Rosho shows his angered side after finding out his student was tricked by Rei, while Sasara watches nervously and tries to stop the escalating situation. Afterwards, Sasara and Rosho engage in a mic battle against Rei to settle the dispute.

Sure, our group may have ended in discord and strife, but my partner's my partner, even for life.
—Sasara's line about Rosho
Rosho and Sasara fight side by side

Rosho and Sasara determined to defeat Rei together

Sasara watches as Rosho is beaten repeatedly but picks himself up, determined to never give up. Sasara reveals his determination to stand by Rosho's side. They fight fiercely and conjoin efforts to take down Rei, standing next to each other and combining their lines, and Rei decides to concede on his own, apologizing to Rosho in the end. Sasara convinces Rosho to forgive Rei, then he changes the conversation unexpectedly and announces they'll be a team. Rosho yells he won't be working with Sasara again, leading the latter to ask the reason why.

Rosho sighs but explains he was running from Sasara. Rosho explains that Sasara always had that special something, while he was holding him back the entire time. He explains he felt like he was in hell after messing up the show for Rosho, and he looks down glumly.

“Now we've chosen to go our separate ways, but I still respect you for your compassion and dedication. Sure, maybe it's not comedy. But will you join me and shoot for the stars with me just one more time?”
— Sasara to Rosho

Sasara would remain dormant and speechless for a while, until he yells out with passion saying that no one in the world is as fun as Rosho. Sasara claimed he wouldn't have any other partner other than Rosho, and that he didn't want to force their partnership and hurt him. Sasara asks if Rosho could shoot for the stars with him one more time at the Division Rap Battle. Rosho is stunned and with a gentle smile, states he would still be only a burden, but Sasara laughs saying that was never the case. They lock hands and Sasara says they'll overcome Rosho's stage fright together.

Afterwards, Sasara convinces Rosho to let Rei on their team, despite his reluctance. Rosho, under the assumption they'd be a duo again, frowned after Rei was welcomed onto their team, but nevertheless, Dotsuitare Hompo was formed once more.

Rosho worries Sasara broke in

Rosho worries if Sasara broke into his apartment again

After the two joined Rei to participate in the second division rap battle, Rosho only felt more down, as he realized he was again dragging Sasara down. Their dent in friendship proves as an obstacle to winning the DRB, as Rei notices how Rosho’s stage fright is only amplified because of Sasara. Each time Rosho returns home and sees the lights on, he scoffs worried that Sasara broke in but is greatly irritated when he finds Rei instead of Sasara in his house. Rosho asks how he got in and Rei happily explains that Sasara has multiple copies of keys to Rosho's apartment.

Rosho bashfully admits looking up to Sasara

Rosho bashfully admits that he looks up to Sasara

Afterwards, Rosho reluctantly drinks with Rei, and during their conversation, Rei, sensing Rosho's attachment to Sasara, asks who he looks up to. Rosho is hesitant to answer, but nevertheless he bashfully admits to looking up to Sasara. Rosho explains how he admires Sasara for having so many qualities he lacks, and Rei comes to an understanding of what he needs to do. Rei asks Sasara why he wants to win the DRB, and Sasara fervently answers that he wants to make it big and reach the stars with Rosho. Afterwards, Rei tells Rosho he should head to where it all began, so he concedes. Off-screen, Rei tells Sasara the same.

“I was pretty broken up about it when they divorced, but in some sense, I also felt relieved. It taught me how fragile relationships are, how easily they can be broken. And that’s when I decided I’d only ever have shallow relationships from then on. But then-I met him. And for the first time, I actually wanted to become friends with someone.”
— Sasara on how he wanted to be Rosho’s friend.

Sasara stands atop the same tower he met Rosho. With Rei’s prompt, Sasara begins to contemplate his parents’ divorce and his dreary childhood. He realizes that Rosho was the only person he wanted a friendship with, and eventually he realizes why their partnership never worked out—at that moment, Rosho arrives beside him, leading to both of them laughing awkwardly. Rosho calls it good timing, saying he was planning to drop by to meet Sasara, and the latter repeats the same. Rosho comments that he’s unable with people saying they have high hopes for him, but then sighs that he was in fact waiting for Sasara to have those same hopes.

Sasara“I'm so sorry... It's my fault that I made ya think that. I... Your talent... I just wanted to see your talent that no one else has. But somewhere inside, I... no... I just couldn't trust anyone. I mean, that's why I was relying only on myself... I couldn't place any expectations on ya. It's my fault that ya couldn't move forward! This is awful... I have no right to be your friend!”
Rosho“Haah... Are you stupid? There's no such thing as having the right to be someone's friend. And if you can't trust anyone, I'll do my best to earn your trust. I...wanna be by your side...”

Sasara begins to realize the gravity beneath his actions, and he attempts to apologize, looking down and feeling a tremendous guilt over him. Sasara realizes a part of him had never trusted Rosho, and he yells out how he stopped Rosho from making any progress. Sasara yells out that he’s not worthy of being his friend, prompting a sigh from Rosho who calls Sasara dumb. Rosho yells that it’s his own fault that Sasara never trusted him, and that he’s always wanted to be equal. Rosho grabs Sasara’s shoulder and asks for a battle, and Sasara reluctantly agrees. The two bring out their Hypnosis Mics, and their fight comes to a close draw as Rosho is determined to beat Sasara as they take an equal amount of hits—but in the end, Rosho collapses, and Sasara laughs about how close their match was.

Rosho wakes up and slumps in defeat, realizing Sasara had beat him. Rosho sits beside Sasara, both a mess and downtrodden from their fight. Sasara thanks Rosho for the fight, saying it was a fresh of air where he had to try his best in order to gain his victory. He asks if they could fight again sometime, and Rosho happily agrees, shaking hands. On ground, they run into Rei and thank him for the advice, both laughing as he denies any involvement in the duo’s battle.
