- Shoko – “You are like a tall kid, aren't you?”
- — Asakusabashi Elegy, Second Light Novel
SatoShoko is the het ship between Satoru Gojo and Shoko Ieiri from the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.
Canon[]
Satoru and Shoko are colleagues and longtime close friends, they have known each other for more than 10 years. They first appear together as second-year students at Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College during Gojo’s Past Arc. Satoru and Shoko, along with their classmate Suguru, come to professional sorcerers’ help. When they get rid of the curse, Shoko appears and compares her classmates, Gojo included, to “trash”. After coming back to college, Principal Yaga inquires who forgot to put up a curtain, and Shoko gives Satoru away. He doesn't take it to heart, since soon Shoko is seen wearing his round-shaped glasses, and chatting with him and Suguru.
The two stay friends throughout their college years, but they don’t get to go on missions much, since Shoko has a very rare technique, and principal Yaga doesn’t want to risk her life for completing mundane missions. When Gojo masters his technique, he and Shoko (along with Suguru) test his abilities. Shoko wonders if Gojo will be alright with his technique constantly being active and corroding his brain. When Shoko meets Suguru after his deflection, she calls Satoru.

Satoru asking Shoko to lie on the reports.
A decade later both Satoru and Shoko are working in Tokyo Jujutsu High. Gojo is a teacher and Shoko is a doctor. When Yuji Itadori presumably dies and is taken to college mortuary for autopsy, Gojo and assistant Ijichi are seen conversing. Gojo’s antics and peculiarities unsettle and scare Ijichi. Shoko comes in and puts Gojo down, telling him to lay off of their colleague. She comments saying that Gojo’s student’s death must have really upset him, because he’s usually less emotional. After Yuji comes back to life, Gojo asks Shoko not to put that in her reports. She agrees, despite the fact that it's a violation of working ethic and regulations.
Chapter 220[]
In Chapter 220, Shoko thinks about Gojo's words (“I won't leave anyone (else) alone”). This is a reference to how Geto (who felt alone) defected after his spiral, which ultimately led to Gojo killing him. Shoko thinks to herself that Gojo himself was never alone after Geto's defection and death- because she was always there. And right now, there were a bunch of 'monsters' awaiting his return. Additionally, she says ‘’Truth is, hell would freeze over before I would fall in love with one of you two (Gojo and Geto).” Interestingly, in Japanese, she uses ‘Aishiteta’, which meant ‘’To love’’ in a very strong fashion, even while Gojo’s fate was unknown, due to no one knowing how the unsealing could potentially affect him. At the end of the chapter, there's a panel of the Prison Realm as Shoko says: “Come back already… Gojo!!”
Light Novel[]
The two have spent time together outside their work. In the second light novel, they take their colleague, Kiyotaka Ijichi, to an izakaya. Ijichi notes the visual difference between them, and mentally calls Shoko a "cool adult", while describing Gojo as a "troubled adult", compared to her. After they send Ijichi home, they continue the night, when Shoko persuades "grumbling" Gojo to go to another izakaya with her.
Shinjuku Showdown Arc[]
Gojo mentions he was upset about Shoko's emotions when the plan of Yuta using his body after he died was being discussed. During Gojo vs. Sukuna, Shoko smoking increased and she was shown to be extremely involved with the fight, commenting about Gojo's moves and worrying about his health. In the end, Shoko drops her cigarette after talking about Gojo and Geto. She refers to Gojo as "moron". Gojo entrusted Shoko to deliver his letters to his students, if he died. She hands Yuji the letters.
Fanon[]
SatoShoko is considered a rarepair, being overshadowed by SatoSugu. It is Gojo’s 8th and Shoko’s 2nd most written ship on AO3. It’s way more popular with the Japanese fans, on Pixiv, SatoShoko is among the top 20 most popular Jujutsu Kaisen ships.[1] Japanese fans celebrate 22nd of November as the ship's "Middle Birthday" — the day between the characters' birthdays, and coincidentally, it is the "Good Couple Day" in Japan: the numbers “11-22” can be read phonetically as “ii fuufu” (which means “good married couple”). Since 1988, it has been designated the day as a special time for “married people to express gratitude to their spouses”.[2]
The fans find this ship interesting, since Shoko and Satoru are friends who had to go through a lot together and endure sufferings, ever since their closest friend, Suguru Geto, deflected, and they remained the only students in their year. Fan works often focus on exploring Satoru and Shoko’s feelings after the events of Volume 0, and how this tragedy brought them closer.
Fans of the ship have noticed how calm and serious Shoko tries to pacify Gojo, who often annoys others with his wild behavior. Their contrasting personalities make this relationship so interesting to explore.

Trivia[]
- Shoko's birthday is November 7th, and Gojo's is December 7th.
- Satoru has a sweet tooth, and doesn't drink alcohol; Shoko hates sweets, and is a heavy drinker.[3] When they go to a restaurant in the light novel, it is said that Shoko chose the one that offers kids menu, so he could drink non-alcoholic beverages and eat sweet dishes.[4]
- An extra page for volume 12 of Jujutsu Kaisen shows Gojo, Shoko, and Nanami in a zoom call. Gojo is seen making a cute face trying to charm his friends. Shoko (along with Nanami) leaves the conversation.[5]
- Gojo's white hair and dark (black in manga) outfit perfectly contrast with Shoko's dark (black in manga) hair and doctor's white robe.
- In chapter 67, Geto notes that Gojo has a new phone wallpaper. Satoru explains that it's a picture of model Waka Inoue. In 2006, when that took place, Waka had a striking resemblance to Shoko: both were not tall, had big dark brown eyes, short dark hair in a neat bob cut with side bangs.
- Satoru and Shoko's VAs Yuichi Nakamura and Aya Endo worked together before Jujutsu Kaisen, the total number of team-ups during their entire careers is 41 times.[6] Nakamura is the actor Endo has worked with the most, and they often voiced couples. During one of the interviews, Gojo's VA said that one time he jokingly proposed to Endo, since their birth dates are really close (February 17th and 20th, 1980).[7]
- When mangaka Gege Akutami disclosed the results of the Jujutsu Kaisen 2020 Valentine Ranking, Gojo turned out to be the winner, Shoko was in the 11th place, judging by the amount of valentines their characters recieved. Next to Shoko's name Gege left a remark, saying that, "it's Macross F when paired with Gojo", referencing anime Macross Frontier both of their actors worked on.[8] The characters they voiced, Alto and Sheryl, are romantically interested in each other.
- When Gojo, Shoko, and Suguru are hanging out together in chapter 65, Shoko is seen wearing Gojo's round glasses.
- In chapter 11, Gojo asks Shoko to lie on the official reports for him to help him and his student Yuji. According to Gojo's student Hakari Kinji, a sorcerer asking another sorcerer for help is like asking them to put their life on the line.[9]
- Shoko's 2024 popularity poll description is the quote from Shoko, where she says she "would never love Gojo or Geto even if the heavens and earth flipped around.”, still using "aishiteta", meaning the odds were low, yet she found herself loving Gojo.
- Sometime during Hidden Iventory, Shoko asked Gojo to change his wallpaper from Waka Inoue because it made her uncomfortable (gravure idol), to which Gojo immediately did since he didn't feel particular about it.
- Due to the ambiguity and vagueness surrounding Gojo’s fate, it’s likely Gege Akutami wanted to keep their options open, meaning in the future, this ship could very well be developed further.
