- I've lived with a void in my chest my whole life. My creator didn't need me, and ever since I awoke, I've just drifted from one place to the next.
But then I met you, and I finally realized that reclaiming my missing sins might be my one opportunity to become my true self. - —Wanderer turn around and he then said this words infront of Lumine[1]
ScaraLumi is the het ship between Scaramouche and Lumine from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Lumine and Scaramouche were once enemies, yet fate repeatedly brought them together. Despite her initial animosity toward him, Lumine still showed concern for him, even before he abandoned his Harbinger title. This bond became more evident when Scaramouche erased his existence from Irminsul—while nearly everyone forgot him, Lumine alone remembered. As she recounted his story to Nahida, it was described that she spoke with a heavy heart, reflecting the impact he had left on her. Later, while clearing her thoughts at the Grand Bazaar, Lumine recalled Greater Lord Rukkhadevata’s words: no one can truly erase themselves. As she pondered Scaramouche’s fate, she was stunned to see him standing at a fruit stand—his appearance had changed, and his demeanor was no longer filled with snark but sincerity. Following him out of the city, she was surprised when he noticed her presence. In the English version, he asks if they have met before, but in the Japanese version, he remarks that her eyes seem familiar—echoing an earlier moment when he had complimented her golden eyes as "pretty".
Their interactions continue to evolve, showing an unusual yet deep understanding between them. Whether in battle or in the Serenitea Pot, they have a habit of teasing each other, one talks while the other listens, they also enjoyed spending their time even when there's silence between them, Wanderer’s profile voice lines further highlight this connection; he tells Lumine that if she truly trusted him, she should stand behind him, suggesting that he is willing to lead the way and protect her. Although the Wanderer has no need for food since he's a puppet, he unexpectedly requests Lumine to cook for him, suggesting that he values her presence more than the meal itself. When it is just the two of them, he speaks more than he typically does, revealing small but significant glimpses of his past and thoughts, a contrast to his usual reserved nature around others.
Despite his general disdain for humanity, the Wanderer shares a unique and complex relationship with the Lumine. Unlike with most others, he does not keep her at arm’s length, showing an unusual level of comfort and trust when they are alone together. While he often teases her and maintains his sharp wit, he acknowledges her presence in his life in ways that he does not extend to others. This is evident in moments such as when Nahida, understanding his reclusive nature, suggests that if he must avoid people on his birthday, he could at least bring something to Lumine—an idea he initially scoffs at but ultimately follows through on.[2][3] His birthday messages also reflect this evolving dynamic, shifting from detached and begrudging to subtly acknowledging that there is someone he is willing to consider when the occasion arises.
Lumine and Wanderer also share many parallels, both in their personal journeys and in their visual design (see Trivia for more details). They both have colors like blue, white, black, and gold in their designs. But Lumine’s colors are lighter, while Wanderer’s are darker. This is similar to the twin sisters Raiden Makoto (Scaramouche's aunt) and Raiden Ei (Scaramouche's mother/creator). Both, have a similar kimono design, however, Makoto’s are lighter colors, while Ei, as her "shadow," has darker colors.
A particularly significant moment comes when Lumine is given the choice to name him. While players can choose any name, Wanderer responds most positively if given the same name as the Traveler—implying that, canonically, Lumine was meant to name him after herself. This further reinforces their bond, as he accepts an identity that mirrors hers. Ultimately, it was Lumine who helped him regain his memories. In a final act of significance, she gave him the name "Wanderer"—a name tied to her own identity as the Traveler.
Unreconciled Stars[]
Act II - "The Crisis Deepens"[]

The others are looking at the corpse lying on the ground, while Lumine is looking at Scaramouche.
Scaramouche and Lumine first meet in Mondstadt during the limited-time event story Unreconciled Stars. Initially introduced as "???", Scaramouche presents himself as a "vagrant from Inazuma."
There are two different dialogues about Lumine's opinion on Scaramouche's clothing choices:
- “That huge hat is quite unique”
- — Lumine tells Scaramouche that his huge hat is quite unique.
- “Those unique clothes are quite beautiful.”
- — Lumine tells Scaramouche that his unique clothes are quite beautiful.
While Lumine seems intrigued by his unique attire, Scaramouche shows interest in her role as the "Honorary Knight" of the Knights of Favonius. During their brief conversation about the strange meteorites, Scaramouche maintains a curious and pleasant demeanor. However, he departs abruptly upon noticing the Millelith approaching.
Act III - What the Skies Conceal, the Water Reveals[]

Scaramouche asking if he can join their conversation.
Their next encounter occurs when Scaramouche greets Lumine, Fischl, and Mona. He casually asks to "join" their conversation, but Mona, sensing his true intentions, quickly teleports the group away. It is then revealed that Scaramouche is not a simple traveler, but rather The Balladeer, the Sixth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. His pleasant demeanor is exposed as a facade, as his true goal was to strike down Lumine. Scaramouche’s cruelty and arrogance are evident in his interactions with his subordinates, contrasting sharply with his earlier act.
Act IV - Where Ancient Stars Align[]
Later, they meet again on Musk Reef, where Scaramouche has just escaped the dream induced by touching a meteorite. Declaring that his "research is finished," he puts Lumine on guard. However, he dismissively tells her to relax, claiming he's "done playing" for the day and will come for her when he's ready. With an impudent farewell, Scaramouche departs once more.
Inazuma Archon Quest[]
Delusion Factory[]
In Archon Quest Chapter II: Act III - Omnipresence Over Mortals, Lumine’s friend Teppei succumbs to the aftereffects of using a Delusion. Devastated and enraged at the Fatui for orchestrating these events, Lumine sets out for revenge by deciding to destroy the Delusion factory.
Inside the factory, she discovers that Scaramouche is overseeing the production of Delusions. He immediately notices her fury and taunts her, remarking that she looks like she wants him dead. Scaramouche claims he is merely following orders and mocks her anger, suggesting she find the real mastermind instead. He ridicules her emotional response, dismissing her strength and accusing her of growing weak. Displaying complete disregard for human life, Scaramouche expresses no regret for the lives lost to the Delusions, further provoking Lumine’s wrath.
When Scaramouche mocks Teppei and the soldiers, calling them weak, Lumine retaliates with sharp remarks of her own. Just as she prepares to confront him, the domain begins to affect her, causing her to collapse. Scaramouche watches in amusement, laughing as he tells her to embrace her anger, explaining that the factory thrives on it. As Lumine struggles, Scaramouche begins to approach her. Before she loses consciousness, she sees Yae Miko arrive and stand before Scaramouche.
Wishes[]
Later, Lumine learns from Yae Miko that she was saved from Scaramouche in exchange for Ei's Electro Gnosis. Yae also reveals Scaramouche’s origins: he is a prototype puppet created by Raiden Ei as a proof-of-concept for an indestructible, Gnosis-bearing puppet. Although Ei succeeded in creating him, she decided not to use him and sealed away his power before setting him free, allowing him to awaken as an ordinary human in Shakkei Pavilion.
After his awakening, Scaramouche wandered Inazuma as an ordinary human male, with his own consciousness, until the Fatui took an interest in him. Under the influence of Il Dottore, the Sixth Fatui Harbinger, Scaramouche’s power was unsealed and enhanced, making him even more formidable. Following these modifications, he rose to prominence as "The Balladeer."
Hues of the Violet Garden[]
Act IV - The Palace, Dyed in Black[]
During the limited-time event story Hues of the Violet Garden, Lumine and Paimon uncover the truth behind the Five Kasen portraits in Ritou. Albedo finishes covering the final portrait and encourages them to explore until its unveiling. At the ceremony, Albedo reveals a blank canvas. Following hints from Ayato, Lumine returns at night and splashes water on the portrait, which reveals Scaramouche (The Balladeer). This discovery makes Lumine furious, as she realizes Scaramouche was behind the trouble from years ago.
Sumeru Archon Quests[]
Dreams, Emptiness, Deception[]
The Gaze from a Certain God[]
Story Teaser- The "Divine" Will - Genshin Impact
Scaramouche's Backstory
In Archon Quest Chapter III: Act III - Dreams, Emptiness, Deception, Lumine encounters Haypasia, a scholar who appears to have maintained a connection with the divine. When Lumine links to Haypasia's consciousness, she is horrified to discover that the "divine figure" Haypasia has contacted is none other than Scaramouche.
Through this connection, Lumine learns about Scaramouche's tragic past. He was betrayed three times by those closest to him: first by his mother, then by his friend, and finally by his hope for the future. These betrayals led Scaramouche to develop a deep hatred for the gods and an unwavering distrust of humanity. Rejecting his past, he renamed himself Kunikuzushi (meaning "country destroyer" in Japanese), vowing to strip himself of all emotion and become a blank slate worthy of wielding the Gnosis he now possesses. In a chilling declaration, Scaramouche threatens to seize control of Sumeru.
After leaving Pardis Dhyai, Lumine witnesses Nahida, whose consciousness is inhabiting Katheryne's body, become injured. Nahida transfers herconsciousness into Lumine’s body, briefly allowing Lumine to inhabit Nahida's. During this moment, Lumine witnesses the creation of Shouki no Kami, Scaramouche’s terrifying god form.
Akasha Pulses, the Kalpa Flame Rises[]
As by a God's Side[]

Scaramouche and Lumine confrontation at Pardis Dhyai.
In Archon Quest Chapter III: Act V - Akasha Pulses, the Kalpa Flame Rises, Lumine encounters Haypasia once again, who is sleeping in Pardis Dhyai. Concerned, Lumine touches her to make sure she is okay, and this physical contact unexpectedly connects her to Scaramouche. Scaramouche appears in a nonphysical form, taunting Lumine, who is both shocked and immediately on guard. Since Paimon cannot see Scaramouche, the conversation is between him and Lumine alone.
- I know you must be curious. I might aswell tell you that I decided to enter Haypasia's consciousness the moment I sensed your touch.
- —Scaramouche to Lumine
Scaramouche remarks how much he missed the look of abject horror on her face whenever they meet, adding that he can hear all her thoughts. He reveals that he sensed Lumine's touch and decided to enter Haypasia's consciousness at that moment. When Lumine asks why, Scaramouche responds, "To observe her on a fool's errand." He then tells Lumine that even if she manages to rescue Nahida, she won't be able to defeat him. Lumine is taken aback, realizing that the creation of a new god is happening much quicker than she anticipated.
Lumine then asks Scaramouche why he's acting friendlier than usual, to which he replies that it's because he's in a good mood. Concerned, Lumine questions whether he is truly okay with everything, pointing out how risky his plan is. She warns him that even if he manages to fully become a god, he might not remain the same and asks if he would still want to become a god if it meant losing himself. Scaramouche, in response, remarks that her words almost make her seem like a friend who cares, but he corrects her, saying she’s wrong because he was born to be a god. He dismisses his past memories and feelings as senseless drivel that should have been erased long ago. He then challenges Lumine, asking what the world has ever done for her to make her so determined to protect it. With unwavering conviction, Lumine responds simply, “You wouldn’t understand.” At this moment, Scaramouche suddenly appears startlingly close to her, catching her off guard with his sudden proximity. Despite her surprise, Lumine holds her ground, meeting his gaze without flinching, her serious expression also changed, when they were so close to each other, the gaze she gave him softened. Scaramouche advises her to let go of her misguided sense of duty, claiming that she doesn’t know the truth. He argues that humans can only find true bliss in ignorance, suggesting it would be better for her and others to embrace it. Scaramouche expresses to Lumine how Haypasia is useful as his first follower, and that eventually he will reach the throne of divinity. Lumine responds with doubt, which he notices, but then brushes off, saying she will eventually understand what kind of authority she is challenging. Lumine attempts to cause conflict by telling Scaramouche that Dottore is trying to harm his first follower. To this, Scaramouche tells her she is not good at sowing discord, and that a few words won't convince him to destroy Dottore.
Scaramouche tells Lumine that he is willing to give her a gift, claiming that she should feel honored to be able to speak to him in this manner and that she will be rewarded. He adds that both good and bad things can be considered gifts, and that gods have never needed to be reasonable. With those words, he disappears, using the power of the Gnosis to change the weather, summoning a thunderstorm.
Where the Boat of Consciousness Lies[]

Lumine vs Scaramouche
In Archon Quest Chapter III: Act V - Akasha Pulses, the Kalpa Flame Rises, Lumine confronts Scaramouche in his Shouki no Kami form. When he spews cruel words at Paimon for interrupting his conversation with Nahida, Lumine remarks that he is still the same Balladeer they once knew. Scaramouche, unamused, proposes a fight, to which Lumine boldly steps up. She engages in battle against his divine form, attempting to remove the Electro Gnosis from him. However, she is overpowered, pushed back, and slammed into the ground by Scaramouche.
Seizing the opportunity, Scaramouche picks up Nahida and attempts to take her Dendro Gnosis. However, Nahida reveals that they are actually in the 168th samsara cycle. Using her powers, she and Lumine have been infiltrating Scaramouche's consciousness repeatedly, battling him over and over in an effort to find a strategy to defeat him. Despite Lumine losing all 168 battles, Nahida carefully registers each attempt and shares the results with the people of Sumeru to refine their approach.
Finally, the showdown takes place in reality. Armed with the wisdom she has gained from every defeat and supported by the people of Sumeru, Lumine skillfully evades Scaramouche's attacks, fueling his growing frustration.
In the end, Lumine manages to defeat him. Nahida confiscates the Electro Gnosis, and Scaramouche collapses out of his Shouki no Kami form, landing on the ground as Lumine watches in silence.
Interlude Chapter: Inversion of Genesis[]
The Night-Bird Falls at the Curtain's Call[]
In Archon Quest Interlude Chapter: Act III - Inversion of Genesis, Lumine comes across two people who are talking about the events of Tatarasuna 400 years ago, and they mention a mysterious kabukimono who was apparently not a human but a puppet. Lumine realizes this must have been Scaramouche. When talking with Paimon, they see Scaramouche, who is supposed to be locked up, walking through the streets of Sumeru. In response to this, they visit Nahida and see him there. Nahida explains that Scaramouche is doing some investigation for her. He asks Lumine if killing him is the only thing she can think about. Paimon responds that Nahida said he still has some mysteries left, and Scaramouche replies by asking Lumine if she would finish the job and kill him if it were up to her, and remarks that if so, he was wrong in thinking she might have been getting cold feet. Lumine does not have a response to this.
When Lumine learns Scaramouche is no longer a Harbinger following his recent losses, she bluntly remarks how Dottore tossed him out like trash. Scaramouche talks about how most human relationships are transactional, and how as long as one has value, they will not be abandoned. He then admits that after the recent events, he is not quite what he used to be, to which Lumine does not show sympathy, sardonically saying what a crying shame it is.
- Per my agreement with Lesser Lord Kusanali, I’ll be at the front. It’s my job to lead the way and get rid of any obstacles in our path. All you have to do is keep your pretty eyes open and try not to fall behind.
- —Scaramouche to Lumine

Scaramouche referring to Lumine's eyes as "pretty".

Scaramouche saying to Lumine that if she wants to stay safe, her best option is to stick close to him.
Nahida proposes that Scaramouche join forces with them, and decides to do a test run in order to see how well they all manage to cooperate. Lumine sees him as untrustworthy, but ends up agreeing to accompany him inside Irminsul. After being transported to Irminsul, Scaramouche snarkily comments on how quickly Lumine has caught up with him, and Lumine in response tells him that she's here to babysit him upon Nahida's request. He says how he understands that prisoners get harassed by guards, but he's on temporary release, and thus they should back off a little. They propose a truce while they are in Irminsul to work together. Scaramouche says that he'll be in the front, and that Lumine should keep her "pretty eyes" open and try not to fall behind. At the snarky remarks, Lumine tells him to stop and to focus on his job. Scaramouche takes the lead, warning Lumine and Paimon to stay close and not wander off. Paimon, ever curious, asks what would happen if they did. In response, Scaramouche simply smirks, making Paimon nervous. He then shifts his gaze to Lumine, remarking that he was picturing her expression if Paimon got lost. Acknowledging the unpredictability of their surroundings, he advises them to stick close to him for safety. During this process, Lumine notes how Scaramouche does not put up resistance, acting quite obediently, and is good at working on the front line. She wonders if this is the type of role he had in the Fatui, and thinks about how he is a strange individual.
When Scaramouche connects to the center of Irminsul, Lumine has a telepathic conversation with Nahida and Paimon, excluding Scaramouche. He realizes this and is upset, saying how it must be a riveting conversation they are having, and that the best ones always happen when he is not involved. He also realizes that he is the subject of said conversation. Lumine in response tells him that they have every right to keep certain things confidential. Scaramouche agrees, saying how they can't have their prisoner knowing too much.
As Scaramouche connects to the center of Irminsul, Lumine holds a telepathic conversation with Nahida and Paimon, deliberately excluding him. But he’s not oblivious—he picks up on it immediately. "Must be a riveting conversation you three having," he remarks. "The good ones always happen when I’m not involved." There’s a bitterness in his words, a quiet frustration at being kept on the outside. And when he realizes he’s the subject of the discussion, his annoyance only deepens. Lumine meets his irritation with a cold but logical response. "We have every right to keep certain things confidential." Scaramouche doesn’t argue, though his agreement comes wrapped in sarcasm. "Of course. We can’t have the prisoner knowing too much." A sharp remark, but one that acknowledges the reality of his situation. He may be working with them for now, but he’s still not truly one of them.
Scaramouche casually mentions that Lumine and Aether came from another world, a fact known to very few. Paimon is immediately suspicious, but he calmly replies that they've met before and that Lumine is well-known, so it’s only natural he’d know some things about her. There’s no sarcasm, just certainty. Lumine watches him carefully but doesn’t push further. When she notes his unexpectedly mild attitude, he simply says he wants to avoid trouble and can manage being civil for now.
As Scaramouche uncovers the truth from Irminsul, the weight of it settles heavily on him. Niwa, the friend he had believed had betrayed him, had been loyal to the very end. It was Dottore who had orchestrated the deception, twisting the truth into something cruel and unforgivable. Lumine doesn’t press him. She gives him space, watching as he processes emotions too tangled to put into words. Grief, anger, regret—it's all there, flickering behind his eyes. Listening to Nahida, Lumine pieces together what this meant for him. His pursuit of vengeance against the Raiden Gokaden had been built on a lie, fueled by the pain of a betrayal that had never actually happened. She understands now—being betrayed by someone close must have filled him with resentment, driving him down the path he took. Along with this, however, she also remarks how this does not mean vengeance was the correct answer.
Later, when Lumine checks on Scaramouche, he stands with his arms crossed, a dangerous glint in his eyes and a smirk on his lips. He catches her watching and, in a tone that carries a hint of hope, asks, "Are you worried about me?" There’s something in his voice—like he wants her to care, even if he won’t admit it. Then, after a pause, he muses, "If we didn't have such history, I'd almost think that qualifies me to be your friend." But Lumine doesn’t respond to that. Instead, she keeps her focus on what’s important. "We just want to make sure this doesn't affect the plan," she says. The moment shifts—whatever fleeting sincerity was there vanishes. His expression hardens, his voice sharp with irritation. "It won’t. I’ll keep my end of the deal." Even now, even at his lowest, he refuses to let himself be seen as vulnerable.
Scaramouche notices Lumine’s upset expression and, seeing an opportunity, tells her he might have some information that could interest her. He says that since Irminsul didn’t provide any answers, he now has something new to share. Scaramouche reveals that her twin brother, Aether, might have ties to Khaenri'ah and that he arrived in this world because of a summoning. He also mentions that the Jester, a royal mage from Khaenri'ah, once lived with Aether and shared this information. Scaramouche leaves it to Lumine whether she believes him or not, but assures her he’s not lying. This is information Lumine has been desperately searching for, but despite all her efforts, even the Archons have been tight-lipped about her brother. Only Nahida, the Dendro Archon, has given her a few information. So, for Scaramouche—her enemy—to be the one to offer her even a small fragment of information about Aether, it’s a big deal. It may not be much yet, but it’s more than she’s gotten from anyone else.
After confirming the mission's completion, Scaramouche deviates from the original plan, taking a moment for himself. He forms a shield around himself, Lumine, and Paimon before proposing an exchange: her answer to a question in return for a secret of his own. By taking her hand (This moment stands out, especially because they’ve communicated telepathically before without needing a hand-holding), he establishes a telepathic connection. In English Translation version, Lumine accuses him of "attempting to brainwash her". However, in the Chinese Original Version she said:(你想入侵我的意识?)("You want to invade my consciousness?"). Scaramouche denies this, explaining that his ability only allows for communication, nothing more. Through this connection, Scaramouche asks if it is possible to change the past in their world. Though Lumine doesn't respond verbally, her shock and hesitation reveal the truth he sought. Scaramouche smiles as he lets go of Lumine’s hand. In English Version, Paimon, who had been watching in confusion, interjects: "Huh? What the... What happened? Paimon only saw you holding hands for a second..." In the Chinese Original Version, Paimon says:(咦?什…什么了?就看到你们突然拉了一下手…)("Huh? Wh... What happened? I just saw you two suddenly hold hands...")" Scaramouche, in response, says to Paimon that he was simply thanking her. But Lumine realizes too late—her hesitation confirmed something important to him. As he turns to leave, Paimon protests, and Lumine immediately gives chase, calling out to stop him. Scaramouche acknowledges her quick reaction but insists they won’t meet again. With a final look at Lumine, he erases his existence from Irminsul, believing those who perished in Tatarasuna because of him deserve another chance at life.
A Dance of Destruction[]
After Scaramouche’s drastic actions take effect, the world forgets his existence entirely—everyone except Lumine, who still remembers everything. As she travels around Inazuma, she learns the tragic truth: despite his attempt to erase himself to save those who were unjustly killed, his actions were in vain. The people he tried to save still died, though under different circumstances. Seeking answers, Lumine visits Nahida and accidentally mentions investigating “The Balladeer.” Confused, Nahida remarks that it sounds like a code name, as she has no memory of him. Troubled by this realization, Lumine grows visibly distressed. Nahida notices her expression and gently asks if there’s something she wants to share. Lost in thought, Lumine wonders what might have happened to Scaramouche after he erased all traces of his existence from Irminsul. Seeing her upset, Paimon asks what’s wrong and why she looks so upset. Lumine replies to Paimon, saying that some things have happened that only she can remember. After a brief moment of hesitation, she makes the decision to reveal the truth about Scaramouche. With a heavy heart, she begins to explain, her words piecing together the fragments of a story shattered and scattered across time—one of pain, sacrifice, and a futile attempt to rewrite the past. As she recounts what she knows, her voice carries the weight of someone who has witnessed a tragedy no one else can recall.
Nahida can only make inferences about Scaramouche's character, but she acknowledges that Lumine is the only one who truly remembers him. Lumine, however, is uncertain. She recalls their past as enemies and wonders about his motivations—whether he wanted to reset everything, save someone, or erase himself completely. She remembers a question he asked her, a question that made her hesitate. Her hesitation, rooted in witnessing Greater Lord Rukkhadevata's own self-erasure, gave him his answer, though she can't reveal this to Nahida. When Nahida notices Lumine's worry, Lumine responds depending on the dialogue options you choose:
- “I just feel... empty.”
- — First Dialogue Option
The Kabukimono's Finale[]
Later, Lumine visits Grand Bazaar to clear her thoughts. While reflecting, she recalls Greater Lord Rukkhadevata saying no one can fully erase themselves from existence, not even her. As she begins to wonder about Scaramouche’s fate, her eyes widen in shock. Standing at a fruit stand, she sees him, though he seems different—his clothing has changed, and his demeanor is no longer snarky and rude but sincere and kind. Unable to suppress her curiosity, Lumine follows him as he leaves the city to gather fresh sunsettias. Internally, she notes that if she weren’t witnessing this with her own eyes, she wouldn’t believe it. However, the Wanderer notices her presence. Turning to face her, he asks why she’s been following him from the city. Lumine calmly replies that she knows who he is, even if he doesn’t remember her. To prove her claim, she reveals a secret only he would know—that he is a puppet. Intrigued but skeptical, Wanderer follows Lumine to meet Nahida.
At the Sanctuary of Surasthana, Nahida asks him why he refers to himself as “Wanderer.” He explains that the name feels fitting, like a plant without roots—something that resonates with him deeply. When the Wanderer inquires about what he was like in his “past incarnation,” as Nahida calls it, there’s an awkward silence. The group struggles to answer, which leads him to suspect that his previous self was not a good person. Despite this, he insists on hearing the truth, stating that truth is important to him.
For Lumine, this encounter is a reminder that even the most complex of people can change. What was once an enemy now stands before her as someone seeking redemption. Whether or not this version of Scaramouche—this Wanderer—is truly different remains to be seen, but Lumine can’t help but wonder if this new path could offer him the second chance he desperately sought.
- Wanderer (with no memories) – “If we were enemies, why are you trying to help me find the truth?”
- Lumine – “...”
As their interactions continue, Lumine remains quiet and observant, never allowing her previous experiences as enemies to cloud her judgment. She listens intently to the Wanderer as he grapples with his past, fully aware of the weight his memories carry. When he questions why she is helping him if they were enemies before, Lumine remains silent. If she truly didn't care she could have answered with, "I'm doing this for Nahida's sake." Yet, she says nothing—because the truth is, she's doing this because she cares for him more than she’s willing to admit. As they delve into his physical memories, the Wanderer expresses guilt over dragging her into the process but remains resolute in facing his past.
In their interactions within Wanderer's physical memories, Lumine’s demeanor softens. She may not speak much, but her growing sympathy for him is evident. She understands the weight of confronting one’s past, and she doesn't hold his previous actions against him. Her willingness to stand by him, even when he is at his most vulnerable, speaks volumes about her character and her ability to see beyond the surface to the person struggling beneath.
Before Wanderer claim his memories back, he expresses the emptiness he has felt throughout his life, believing he was unwanted and without purpose. He describes his existence as aimless, drifting from place to place. However, after meeting Lumine, he comes to the realization that recovering his lost memories and past mistakes might be his only chance to discover his true identity.
- Haha, you sound like you're concerned about me
- —Wanderer to Lumine after getting his memories back

When he eventually reclaims all of his memories, the manifestation of Shouki no Kami reappears, embodying the burdens of his previous self. Overwhelmed and struggling to comprehend the truth of his past, the Wanderer nearly falters. However, when Shouki no Kami attacks, Lumine steps forward to defend him, blocking the blow. Moments later, as another strike heads for Lumine, the Wanderer instinctively shields her, taking the hit himself. This act of selflessness grants him an Anemo Vision, and with its power, he defeats the Shouki no Kami—destroying the very embodiment of the god he once sought to become. After the battle, the Wanderer reflects on his journey. Depending on the dialogue options you choose, Wanderer's response remains the same:
- Lumine – “Now you've recovered your memories...”
- Wanderer – “Haha, you sound like you're concerened about me"
- “But don't worry. Thanks to you, even if I didn't change a thing.... at least I now know the truth.”
- Lumine – “The past will catch up with you.”
- Wanderer – “Haha, you sound like you're concerened about me"
- “But don't worry. Thanks to you, even if I didn't change a thing.... at least I now know the truth.”
In that moment, it’s clear that while the Wanderer has come a long way in confronting his past, Lumine’s influence on him has left a lasting imprint—one that could shift his path forward.
As Though Morning Dew[]
Back in the Sanctuary of Surasthana, the Wanderer shares his perspective, noting that his worth comes from his utility to others. Lumine, however, counters by saying Nahida doesn’t see him that way. He then comments on Lumine’s character, calling her a “good person” devoted to justice, though he admits his views differ from hers. Curious about her motivations, he asks why she traveled to Inazuma after he wiped himself from Irminsul. Lumine explains it was to see what he had changed. Grateful for her efforts, he declares himself in her debt and vows to repay her, even though Lumine insists she didn’t do it for a reward. The Wanderer, however, remains firm in his belief that all relationships are built on equal exchanges, promising to “balance the books” someday.
Before parting ways, Lumine gently encourages the Wanderer to allow Nahida to guide him toward a new path, sharing her hope that he will grow beyond his past. The Wanderer, now more open than ever to change, agrees to listen to Nahida’s wisdom and pledges to support her efforts from the shadows. As they stand at the crossroads of their journey, he ponders something—his name. Having never been given a true name by Raiden Ei, his creator, the Wanderer finds himself at a loss. Raiden Ei had given him a golden feather instead, a symbol of their connection, but no name to call his own. He turns to Lumine, asking her to bestow one upon him, allowing her the honor of naming him.
When naming Wanderer, he only gives positive feedback if the player attempts to name him the same as the Traveler:
- “You want to share your name with me? Huh, not a bad choice.”
- — if the player attempts to name him the same as the Traveler
- “...Ah, alright, if you say so.”
- — His response if the player doesn't attempt to name the Wanderer the same as the Traveler
As he prepares to leave, the Wanderer makes one final request: that Lumine share the truth with any remaining Raiden Gokaden descendants. He believes they deserve to know what happened, even if it means they might seek revenge against him. Depending on the answers, one of these two conversations can be seen:
- Wanderer – “It's fine. Let them stab their blades into my chest if they so desire. ...Maybe that's how it always should have been.”
- Lumine – “...”
- Wanderer – “What's that look for? Don't make that face, I know what I'm doing.”
- Wanderer – “It's fine. Let them stab their blades into my chest if they so desire. ...Maybe that's how it always should have been.”
- Lumine – “Fine.”
- Wanderer – “Hehe, no nonsense. I like it.”
— Whatever you choose for both dialogues, his tone of voice remains soft toward Lumine in response.
A Parade of Providence[]
Act I - Comings and Goings[]

Wanderer revealed to be representing Vahumana as “Hat Guy”.
In the limited-time event A Parade of Providence, Wanderer participates as “Hat Guy,” representing the Vahumana Darshan in the Akademiya Extravaganza and Interdarshan Championship. Lumine, surprised to see him involved in such an event, questions his participation, noting that it seems out of character for him.
Lumine and Paimon interview the contestants to find out how they joined the event. They learn that there are two ways to participate: through self-nomination, like Cyno, Faruzan, and Kaveh, or through a large number of recommendations, like Tighnari and Layla. Each contestant has their own reason for entering the Championship. Tighnari joined to promote his ecology lecture, Cyno was motivated by the limited-edition Genius Invokation TCG card in the prize pool, Faruzan wanted more students and funding for her research, and Kaveh needed the prize money to buy a new house and move out of Alhaitham's residence.
Lumine and Paimon then approach Wanderer, who introduces himself as "Hat Guy" from Vahumana. Paimon is immediately confused and asks why he goes by that name, to which Wanderer responds that it’s the name he uses in Vahumana. Paimon points out that it sounds like a nickname, not a real name, and Wanderer sarcastically retorts that it’s just a simple name. Paimon then directly asks him why he is participating in the Championship. She states that they are "specially invited quest conspirators," urging him to answer their questions. Wanderer, with a playful smile, responds that he doesn't care whether they are Matra, and if he doesn't answer, it won’t matter. He cryptically mentions that he has an agreement with someone not to reveal his motives, prompting Paimon to ask if he's plotting something in secret. Wanderer smirks and suggests Paimon take a guess, further frustrating her. Paimon, now annoyed, gives up asking about his participation and instead inquires about why he joined Vahumana. Wanderer, with a slight annoyance in his tone, says they like to poke their noses where they don't belong, and sarcastically asks if they’re going to continue annoying him if he doesn’t answer. He eventually explains that he joined Vahumana after writing some essays refuting an academic’s views on the Tatarasuna incident. He further explains that when he was bored, he wrote commentary on societal issues in Inazuma, which led to Vahumana mistakenly considering him one of their members. Someone even invited him to a lecture, which he found to be just "the wishful thinking of idiots." He then adds that when Lesser Lord Kusanali heard about this, she personally intervened to get him registered in Vahumana, using the name "Hat Guy." Lumine realizes that Nahida was behind this, confirming her involvement in getting Wanderer into Vahumana. Wanderer, growing tired of the conversation, tells Lumine and Paimon that they are better off speaking to the other contestants. He then teases them, saying that someone is about to get very unlucky and challenges them to guess who. Paimon, frustrated, exclaims that it’s impossible to relax with him around, while Lumine, unimpressed, silently nods in agreement.
Later, when Lumine speaks with Layla, Wanderer joins the conversation, bluntly stating that Layla doesn’t seem to have the resolve to win. When Layla nervously asks if she said something wrong, Lumine doesn’t scold Wanderer but instead calmly reassures Layla, explaining it wasn’t her fault.
Act II - Beginnings and Endings[]

Wanderer handing over to Lumine a container of water.
In their encounter with Tighnari in the desert, the Wanderer displays an unexpected moment of practicality. As the group finds Tighnari, dehydrated and exhausted from the harsh desert heat, Wanderer cynically remarks on the fragility of humans, unable to withstand extreme temperature changes. Lumine, unimpressed by his sarcastic comment, challenges him. But instead of directly offering the water to Tighnari, Wanderer hands the container over to Lumine, subtly recognizing that she is the one who will take action.

Summertide Scales and Tales:[]
Page III - Until the End of The World[]

Wanderer looking down to Lumine while she was still unconscious.
- Morning, sunshine. You were having a nice little dream there, weren't you? Not gonna lie, it was kind of adorable.
- — Wanderer to Lumine when she finally woke up
During the limited-time event story "Summertide Scales and Tales: Page III", Lumine and the others fall from the Maritime Express, but Wanderer manages to catch them mid-fall. He gently places Lumine onto Nilou’s lap. As Lumine lies unconscious, Wanderer comments on her fragility, remarking that she must be delicate to pass out from such a minor fall. When Lumine wakes up, Wanderer greets her with a playful, “Morning, sunshine,” before teasing her about having a nice little dream, adding that it was even somewhat adorable. Lumine, however, doesn’t seem to respond to his teasing, instead asking what happened. Wanderer explains that they had fallen down a waterfall, and Lumine had passed out during the fall. He then makes a sarcastic remark, saying, “Someone couldn’t keep it together,” referring to her. As though enlightening her on something obvious, he proceeds to tell her that crashing into the ground doesn't transport you to another world, sarcastically mentioning that such things only happen in “stupid Inazuman light novels.” His words carry a playful mockery, though it’s clear he’s still more focused on teasing than offering any real concern.
When Lumine explains to the others that she heard a voice in her head while unconscious, Wanderer quickly steps in to offer an explanation. He casually informs them that the fog in the area had a hallucinatory effect, suggesting that Lumine might have inhaled some of it while panicking on her way down.
Navia asks Lumine and Nilou if they know this "Hat Guy" person, but Wanderer however, who had been looking at Lumine's direction with a soft expression on his face, and doesn't seem to pay attention to Navia and Nilou. Nilou responds to Navia's question, explaining that he's a student at the Akademiya and they met during the last Interdarshan Championship, where he represented the Vahumana Darshan. Navia, now turning to Wanderer, introduces herself as the President of Spina di Rosula, greeting him warmly. She asks if she should call him "Hat Guy," since that seems to be what everyone else is calling him. Wanderer finally looks at her and casually replies, "Sure, whatever," before turning away again. When asked about the sword at his hip, Wanderer explains that he’s had it ever since he woke up in Simulanka. He tried to get rid of it multiple times, but it always reappears. He reveals that the sword is called the “Hero’s Sword” and is meant to be wielded by the Hero. With a hint of irony, he reflects on how, of all people, he was chosen as the hero. At this point, Paimon speaks up, mentioning that she and Lumine always thought they were the heroes of the story, not Wanderer.
In response, Wanderer offers the title of hero to Lumine, saying that she’d be doing him a favor by accepting it. However, Lumine politely declines the offer, choosing not to take on the title:
- Wanderer – “Well, if it means that much to you, you're welcome to claim the title. You'd be doing me a favor.”
- Lumine – “I'm good actually...”
- — Lumine wanting Wanderer to take on the title.
When Wanderer briefly suggests gathering a dragon scale before they depart to slay the dragon, Paimon immediately begins bombarding him with a series of questions. In response, Wanderer asks if she’s ever considered keeping her questions to herself, pointing out that if he answers all of them, they’ll be there until the next Interdarshan Championship. Lumine, finding the interaction amusing, smiles with her eyes closed, while Paimon, growing increasingly frustrated, becomes annoyed by his remark.

Lumine smiles as she looks at Wanderer
Later, Wheel finds them and excitedly approaches, exclaiming, “Brave hero!” When Lumine looks at Wanderer with a smile, now fully aware that he’s the one being praised as the hero, Wanderer immediately reacts, gently asking, “What are you looking at me for? He’s obviously talking to you.” Wheel, however, clarifies that he wasn’t hurt because Wanderer had been the one to save him, further emphasizing the Wanderer's role as the hero in this situation.
While battling Simulanka's dragon, the ground beneath Lumine and the others suddenly crumbles, causing them to fall. Once again, Wanderer swoops in to save them, though he expresses annoyance, asking how many more times he’ll have to save them. When Nilou thanks him for the rescue, Lumine smiles and nods in agreement, silently acknowledging his efforts with a grateful look.
As Lumine and the others prepare to approach the dragon once more, Wanderer’s tone shifts between concern and frustration. At one point, he exclaims sharply at Lumine, warning her to be careful. His words carry a hint of annoyance as he adds, “If you fall, you’re on your own this time.” There’s a subtle edge to his voice, as if he’s already tired of having to constantly watch over her, yet his words still carry an undertone of caution. Later, as the battle intensifies and the dragon grows more aggressive, Wanderer’s tone softens slightly, though still laced with urgency. He warns Lumine that the dragon is getting serious and advises her firmly, “He's getting serious... Don’t get hit!" His words, while still blunt, carry a sense of protective concern beneath the sharpness—he wants her to stay safe, even if his way of showing it is through a more detached and straightforward approach. It's clear that, despite his frustration, he doesn’t want anything bad to happen to her.
After learning the dragon’s story, and that its name is Durin, Wanderer finds sympathy for him, as the journey of the durin mirrors his own in many ways. He flies up to Durin to rest his hand on his face and empathize with him, as Lumine and the others watch. When the platform beneath the dragon breaks, Wanderer leaps into action, flying down to save the dragon. Lumine rushes toward him, possibly intending to help, but the platform she's standing on also collapses. Just in time, Kirara swoops in to rescue Lumine. Afterward, Lumine hurriedly runs back to the edge, anxiously peering down to where Wanderer fell after Durin. Her expression is filled with worry and uncertainty.

Lumine: Wanderer...
Later, along with the others, Wanderer offers Durin his blessing, expressing his hope that Durin finds acceptance in Simulanka. He adds that, as someone who wishes to be his friend, he sincerely wishes him the best for the future. Lumine, who hears this, her gaze on him softens with a smile, and seems to be taken aback by his words, clearly moved by his genuine sentiment. She then steps forward to offer Durin her own blessing.
After Durin is transformed into a new, smaller form, he turns to Wanderer and asks if he will come along with him. Wanderer, perplexed, questions why he would do such a thing. Durin responds by reminding him of his earlier words—that he wanted to be friends. Lumine casts a disapproving look at Wanderer, noticing his sudden shift in attitude. Wanderer, seemingly annoyed with himself, admits that maybe he spoke too soon. Hearing this, Durin grows visibly sad, which causes Lumine to react, but instead of calling him by the name she originally created for him, she says, "Come on, Hat Guy..." This shows that when others are around, she keeps the name she gave him to herself, much like how her twin brother is the only person who calls her by her real name, "Lumine", instead of "Traveler."
Lumine's subtle but meaningful influence that changes his mind. When she gives him a 'disapproving look,' Wanderer finally gives in and agrees to Durin’s proposal, accepting the offer to accompany him. In this moment, when Durin says, “Thank you! You're the first friend to call me by my name,” Wanderer’s gaze shifts toward Lumine, hinting that while the others may call him “Hat-Guy” or other impersonal names, Lumine is the only one who calls him by the name she gave him. As Wanderer turns away, his words are tinged with a hint of frustration and exhaustion yet his tone is soft: “Let’s go back up. I’m about to suffocate down here.” Lumine, was visibly happy by this, and lightly scolds Paimon for being insensitive about the situation, defending the sentiment behind Wanderer’s words.
Appendix - Afterword[]

Lumine, Paimon, and Wanderer, along with Mini Durin, encounter Fischl, who gives them a characteristically grand introduction, calling Lumine an “Outlander” and Wanderer a “hat-wearing servant,” which annoys him. Mini Durin clarifies that Wanderer is his friend, not his servant. Soon, Klee and Albedo arrive. Klee excitedly shares her experiences, and she and Mini Durin realize their mothers were friends, connecting them like siblings, and they happily run off to play with Fischl.
Meanwhile, Albedo brings up a serious topic with Wanderer, sharing a prophecy about Dragonspine's Durin potentially returning to life, which could have serious implications. He asks for Wanderer’s potential assistance should they need it, as he believes Wanderer’s bond with Mini Durin ties their fates together. Wanderer seems reluctant but doesn’t dismiss Albedo’s request outright.

Wanderer... Are you worried about Durin?
While the others admire a small origami ship, Lumine gently probes Wanderer about his thoughts on Durin’s fate. Wanderer, though dismissive, seems to care more than he admits, subtly hinting at his developing sympathy due to saving Mini Durin. Lumine understands that Wanderer needs time to process and quietly supports him.
As they discuss the boat’s name, Wanderer proposes “The Durin” as a gesture of hope for Mini Durin’s safe journey. Mini Durin, moved, asks Wanderer if he can visit Teyvat, promising to stay close. Though reluctant, Wanderer agrees. The others bids Mini Durin farewell, with promises of reunions, Lumine quietly wishes both Mini Durin and Wanderer to take care, as Wanderer prepares to accompany him on his journey.
Chromatic Ode of Candies and Roses[]
First Gift — Give Her Surprises[]
In Chromatic Ode of Candies and Roses: "First Gift — Give Her Surprises", Lumine encounters Wanderer outside the Akademiya during the lively Sabzeruz Festival. The contrast between them is striking—Lumine, immersed in the warmth of Sumeru’s celebrations, and Wanderer, keeping his distance from the revelry. His surprise at seeing her is subtle yet telling; it’s rare for anyone to wander away from the festivities, let alone seek him out. When Lumine asks if he plans to join in, he dismisses the idea, remarking that he hardly seems like the type to enjoy dancing hand-in-hand with others. His words are sharp, as always, yet there’s no real hostility behind them—just quiet resignation. Lumine, however, doesn’t brush off his presence so easily. She lingers, showing concern in the way only she can, a silent acknowledgment that she sees him, even when he tries to remain unseen. Perhaps sensing her unspoken worry, Wanderer makes a request: she is not to tell anyone he was here. He doesn’t elaborate much, but his reasoning is clear—he prefers solitude, watching the festival unfold from afar rather than immersing himself in it. Lumine, rather than pressing him, respects his wishes. She doesn’t push him to join or demand an explanation. Instead, she simply listens, understands, and leaves without breaking the quiet trust between them.
Wanderer’s Birthday [4][]
January 3, 2023[]
Wanderer gave Lumine a Shimi Chazuke (his specialty dish) along with 3 Delicious Candied Ajilenakh Nut and 3 Delicious Baklava.
- “Not long ago, Lesser Lord Kusanali kept asking me to visit the Akademiya, to borrow books or attend lectures to immerse in the academic atmosphere. I was annoyed by this and wandered around the wilderness, but she still managed to find me. She said she understood that I don't like being around others, but it can be very painful being alone all the time. She also said at least I could see you if I bring you something on my birthday."
- “But why should I give someone a present when it's my birthday? How absurd."
- “I can see that she was looking for a chance to make my life more fulfilling, but has she ever stopped to think about what an "experience" it is for others to meet me?"
- “Anyway, I ran into some students by the road, and they dragged me into joining some cooking interest group. We ended up making a lot of food that is not to my taste, so I'm definitely not eating them. You can take the rest, eat it if you like it, throw it away if you don't. I have no interest in knowing what you do with it, you don't have to tell me.”
- “What a coincidence, it's been some time since we last met. Well then, have a nice day."
- “...You're not leaving? Don't tell me you came all this way to see me?"
- “To be honest, I don't really care for celebrating birthdays, and I don't have anything to give you in return for your well-wishes."
- “If you don't mind, perhaps... we could sit here together for a while.”
Teyvat Food Notes [5] [6][]
After receiving Wanderer’s birthday mail, Lumine hurries to meet him, knowing that while showing up early won’t earn praise, being late would definitely get her a scolding. Wanderer teases her for rushing, telling her to take her time. He humorously complains that, thanks to her, Lesser Lord Kusanali gave him the day off—but the price is spending it following her, and he can't decide whether it’s worse than attending his lessons. Lumine brushes off his complaints, explaining that she has everything ready for today’s meal, having caught some eels in Inazuma recently, and invites him into her Serenitea Pot. Wanderer hesitates briefly, commenting on the simplicity of her place, but Lumine reassures him that he’s welcome to share his thoughts, even if they’re critical. He settles on calling it "empty" in its beauty, and she takes it in stride.
As they prepare tea, Wanderer remarks on Lumine’s skill, appreciating the bitterness and aroma of the brew. He critiques those who sweeten their tea too much, preferring it bitter to reveal its true flavor. Lumine disagrees slightly, suggesting that both bitter and sweet teas have their time and place, which causes Wanderer to call her a "smooth talker." The conversation shifts as Wanderer shares a rare personal story about his past, recalling how, a long time ago, he drank tea for the first time with swordsmiths. At that point, he didn’t understand the social customs tied to it, and he laughs, realizing that others probably thought he genuinely enjoyed the bitter tea. It’s a rare, vulnerable moment for him, one Lumine quietly listens to, noting how much he actually talks compared to his usual aloof self.
While cooking together, Lumine watches how serious and focused Wanderer is in the kitchen. But when he introduces the concept of “ninja rice”—where ingredients are hidden beneath the rice to surprise the eater—Lumine’s impression of him shifts. She had thought he was all business, but his playful side shines through, and she mentally takes back her earlier thought.
When the dish, Shimi Chazuke, is ready, Wanderer warns Lumine that it’s bitter and not to everyone’s taste. As she tries it, she’s struck by the unexpected harmony of flavors—the slight bitterness of eel liver, the earthy rice soaked in bitter tea, and the delicate sweetness that emerges after each bite. The flavors come together in a surprising and satisfying way, leaving her in awe of his cooking skills. She wonders aloud how someone who doesn’t need to eat could have such talent in the kitchen. Her surprise must show on her face, because Wanderer immediately becomes more gruff, telling her to stop staring and go wash the dishes. Despite his brusque exterior, there’s a softness in his actions earlier, hinting at how much he values her company.
January 3, 2024[]
Wanderer gave Lumine a Shimi Chazuke (his specialty dish) along with 3 Padisarah and 3 Nilotpala Lotus.
- “Lately, there's always been a gaggle of students sneaking around and gossiping behind my back. One glare, and they'd scatter and hide."
- “And would you believe it? Just when I was hiding out in the wild, seeking some peace and quiet, they jumped out of some bushes holding a cake that anyone could see was sickeningly sweet. It's so incredibly ridiculous that I had to laugh. Just how many people on this planet would be happy about my "birth"?"
- “But their little joke did remind me that on this day, there is someone I need to give a gift to."
- “Since I'm the one picking the gift, I'll choose it based on my own preferences. If you've got any opinions, you'd best tell me in person."
- “Hmm... Though just how did they find me? Next time I'll need to find a more secluded spot.”
- “It's you again? Alright, come up quickly, but make sure no one sees you."
- “You weren't followed, were you? ...Hmph, I guess I'll have to trust you for now."
- “Well, what did you want to say? Just so you know, I don't want to hear it if it's "Happy Birthday" or something like that."
- “That goes for you fluffballs too, I'm watching y— Hey, stop moving around! I'll play with you later.”
January 3, 2025[]
Wanderer gave Lumine a Shimi Chazuke (his specialty dish) along with Guide to Freedom.
- “It's become common knowledge that I'm never around on my birthday? I have no idea how that happened. I see no basis for it at all."
- “Just a week ago, I was passing through Treasures Street when this big-eared hat guy shoved a stack of cards into my hands, saying he had "high hopes" for me. That green-eyed desert guy backed him up too, somehow encouraging me to make friends through card games."
- “Ridiculous. As if you could form life-or-death bonds over a card table. Even Durin wouldn't buy that."
- “I imagine you won't agree with them either. Between playing card games with strangers and teaming up with you, I'd rather go with the latter."
- “By the way, I gave those cards to Durin. One day, you might stumble upon him in Mondstadt, sitting by the roadside playing cards. Don't act too surprised."
- “On another note, do you think "Big-Eared Hat" or "Hat Ears" works better as a nickname?”
- “I've told you there's no need for gifts, so what's with this handmade thing? The craftsmanship is... mediocre. Is this how you see me?"
- Whatever. I've already gotten plenty of unusual stuff from you, so what's one more? Hmm? Wait, even Durin prepared something?"
- ...Alright, fine. You guys sure come up with plenty of ideas. And look at you, grinning like that. I'm starting to think you're the ones who've been looking forward to this day.”

Fanon[]
ScaraLumi is a popular "ship" (fan-created romantic pairing) between Scaramouche (now called Wanderer) and Lumine in Genshin Impact fandom. Fans started shipping them when Scaramouche was first introduced in the Unreconciled Stars event on November 11, 2020. At first, the ship was not very popular, but after the Sumeru Archon Quest and Interlude Chapter (released in late 2022 and early 2023), more people became interested in their relationship. These quests gave Scaramouche more screen time with Lumine, and some fans saw their interactions as romantic or flirtatious, increasing the ship's popularity.
One of the main reasons people like ScaraLumi is because it follows the "Enemies to Lovers" trope. At first, Lumine dislikes and distrusts Scaramouche, especially after he betrays her in Unreconciled Stars. However, as the story continues, especially after he becomes Wanderer, Lumine starts to understand him better and even treats him kindly. This slow change from enemies to possible love interests is what makes the ship exciting for many fans. Their tense relationship at the beginning adds emotional depth, making a possible reconciliation feel satisfying.
Lumine has also shown genuine concern for Wanderer, even after he regains his memories. In the Interlude Chapter, after Scaramouche erases himself from Irminsul, Lumine is visibly upset and troubled when thinking about what happened to him. Paimon immediately notices how sad she looks, and even Nahida points out that Lumine seems deeply worried. When Wanderer finally gets his memories back, he teases Lumine for caring about him, saying that she sounds too concerned—but the truth is, she really was. Fans love this dynamic because it suggests Lumine cares about him more than she realizes, adding more emotional depth to their relationship.
Among the many romantic pairings in Genshin Impact, ScaraLumi is one of the most popular. Fans enjoy writing stories, creating artwork, and making other content about them. The "Enemies to Lovers" dynamic is a favorite among fans because it allows for deep character development, emotional tension, and a slow-burning romance. As their relationship continues to evolve in the game’s story and fan creations, ScaraLumi remains one of the most beloved ships in the fandom.
Aside from their interactions, another reason fans like ScaraLumi is their visual contrast and harmony. Their color schemes have similarities (with shades of blue, black, and white), but their appearances are still very different. Lumine’s outfit is mostly white, symbolizing light and purity, while Wanderer’s clothing is dark blue and black, representing mystery and shadow. Lumine’s blonde hair and golden eyes contrast with Wanderer’s dark blue-black hair and deep indigo eyes, making them visually appealing together.
Their relationship is unique because Lumine has seen almost every side of Wanderer—from his past as a puppet, his time as a villainous Harbinger, to his current life as a wandering drifter. She has witnessed his pain, anger, sadness, and growth, yet he does not seem to hide anything from her. In fact, he even asked Lumine to give him a new name, which suggests he wants her to understand him deeply. Fans find this intriguing—some believe their relationship is a classic Enemies to Lovers story, while others think Wanderer is just hiding his true feelings like a "tsundere" (a character who acts cold but secretly cares). A major question fans ask is: Does Lumine realize Wanderer’s deep feelings for her, or is she just trying to help him? This mystery makes their relationship even more interesting.
ScaraLumi is often compared to Scaraether, the ship between Scaramouche and Aether (Lumine’s twin brother). However, ScaraLumi is generally more popular because it is a heterosexual (male-female) pairing, which tends to attract a larger fanbase. Additionally, Lumine and Wanderer appear together often in official and fan-made artwork, further fueling the imagination of fans. Many artists enjoy depicting their contrasting personalities, whether through intense, dramatic moments or lighthearted, romantic ones.
Another reason fans love ScaraLumi is their similar struggles. Both Lumine and Scaramouche have suffered loss, identity struggles, and loneliness. While Lumine is searching for her lost twin, Scaramouche is trying to understand his own existence. These emotional connections make the idea of them finding comfort in each other very appealing to fans.
In conclusion, ScaraLumi’s popularity comes from its dramatic story, strong visual appeal, and deep character interactions. The "Enemies to Lovers" trope makes their relationship exciting, while their shared experiences add emotional weight. As Wanderer’s story continues to unfold in Genshin Impact, fans eagerly look forward to more moments between him and Lumine, solidifying ScaraLumi as one of the most loved ships in the game’s fandom.
Version 1.1[]
The first meeting between Lumine and Scaramouche in Unreconciled Stars sets the foundation for their tense and complex dynamic, which many fans have come to love. When Lumine first sees Scaramouche, she is immediately intrigued by his mysterious and striking appearance. Their initial interaction is brief but filled with curiosity—Lumine sees him as an enigmatic figure rather than an enemy. At first, they work together to investigate the strange events of the meteor showers, and Lumine believes that Scaramouche could be a potential ally. This creates a brief sense of trust and camaraderie between them.
However, this trust is completely shattered when Lumine realizes that Scaramouche had been deceiving her all along. He had been manipulating events behind the scenes and was planning to betray her. This moment is a major emotional turning point—Lumine feels deeply betrayed, and the friendly cooperation she once believed in turns into hostility. Many fans see this as the perfect setup for the "Enemies to Lovers" trope because it introduces strong emotions like betrayal, resentment, and unresolved tension between the two.
What makes this dynamic even more intense is that Scaramouche didn’t just deceive her by accident—he deliberately targeted Lumine. This suggests that he was paying attention to her actions from the beginning, even if it was for his own benefit. Because he focused so much on Lumine, he unknowingly formed a connection with her, even if it was based on manipulation. This adds a layer of personal conflict between them, making their relationship feel more emotionally charged and significant.
After learning the truth, Lumine’s view of Scaramouche completely changes. She now sees him as an enemy, someone she resents and distrusts. From this point on, she no longer wants to see him—unless it’s to defeat him. Her strong reaction to his betrayal only adds to the tension and emotional depth between them. Fans find this compelling because it leaves room for growth, redemption, and complex feelings in the future.
In many ways, this moment lays the foundation for their entire dynamic. Their first meeting is filled with intrigue, betrayal, and strong emotions, which creates the perfect setup for future development. Whether their story leads to grudging respect, lingering feelings, or even reconciliation, their first encounter establishes a relationship filled with conflict, passion, and potential redemption. This is why ScaraLumi continues to captivate fans, offering countless possibilities for storytelling, angst, and emotional tension.
Version 2.1 and 3.1[]
In Archon Quest Chapter III: Act V - "Akasha Pulses, the Kalpa Flame Rises", fans couldn't get enough of the tension-filled exchange between Scaramouche and Lumine. During their telepathic conversation, with Paimon absent, the atmosphere became even more intense and intimate. The highlight of this moment was when Scaramouche admitted, "I decided to enter Haypasia's consciousness the moment I sensed your touch." Lumine, visibly shocked, immediately questioned, "But why?" Scaramouche’s response only deepened the intrigue: "I wanted to observe you on the fool’s errand." The way Scaramouche stood so close, watching her so intently, left fans buzzing with excitement. Many joked, “Stop observing her—people might actually think you’re in love.” His words felt borderline possessive or flirtatious, adding fuel to the "Enemies to Lovers" dynamic that fans adore.
Adding to the intensity was Lumine’s visible reaction—her expression of shock upon realizing how close Scaramouche was standing. The unexpected closeness, combined with his personal interest in her mission, left fans thrilled. Without Paimon’s presence, the moment felt even more intimate and charged, further strengthening interpretations of a deeper chemistry between them. This scene quickly became one of the most iconic ScaraLumi moments, sparking countless discussions and fan interpretations.
"You Almost Sound Like a Friend Who Cares" – A Viral ScaraLumi Moment
Despite their status as enemies, Lumine showed concern for Scaramouche during his transformation into a god. She warned him that if he continued down this path, he might lose himself completely. Scaramouche’s reaction was both unexpected and telling: "You almost sound like a friend who actually cares."
Fans found this moment incredibly sweet—the idea that Lumine, despite everything, still cared about him, even when he was at his most dangerous. The contrast between their rivalry and this brief, heartfelt exchange made the ship explode in popularity. Fans joked that the new Sumeru Archon Quest felt more like a "ScaraLumi Archon Quest", highlighting how much their interactions stole the spotlight.
These moments not only reinforced the intense, tension-filled nature of their relationship but also showcased glimpses of understanding and care between them. The push and pull between animosity and concern, combined with their emotional exchanges, made these scenes some of the most memorable in Genshin Impact history for ScaraLumi shippers.
Version 3.3[]
ScaraLumi has captivated fans due to the intriguing and complex relationship between Scaramouche (Wanderer) and Lumine. In the Interlude Chapter: Inversion of Genesis, Scaramouche displays a subtly flirtatious attitude toward Lumine, which has led to various interpretations of their dynamic. Despite once being bitter enemies, Scaramouche gradually begins to see Lumine as a possible friend—something that surprised many fans, given their tense history. This evolution has led to different perspectives on their relationship, with some considering ScaraLumi a semi-canon "Enemies with Mutual Attraction" pairing, while others see it fitting into the "Enemies to Friends to Lovers" trope. Some fans even view their dynamic as "One-Sided Enemies to Lovers."
"One-Sided Enemies to Lovers"—Scaramouche’s Hidden Admiration? In this interpretation, one character harbors jealousy, resentment, or rivalry, sometimes going out of their way to insult or humiliate the other out of envy. Many fans see Scaramouche as the one holding a grudge, possibly resenting Lumine’s strength and determination. However, Lumine, oblivious to his hostility, treats him with curiosity or even kindness instead of outright hatred. This contrast makes their interactions even more fascinating, as it reveals how Scaramouche, despite his sharp tongue and arrogant demeanor, might actually admire Lumine deep down. Adding to the charm of their interactions, fans humorously note how Paimon often feels like the “third wheel” when Lumine and Scaramouche communicate telepathically while holding hands. These moments, though subtle, suggest a deeper connection, further fueling shippers’ imaginations.
One of the most powerful moments for ScaraLumi fans comes when Scaramouche erases himself from Irminsul, removing all traces of his existence from everyone’s memories—except Lumine’s. She is the only person left who remembers him, a fact that many fans see as a profound symbol of their unique bond. This shared memory makes them feel deeply connected, as they become the sole record-keepers of events that no one else remembers. This emotional moment has been beautifully captured by fan artists, often depicting Lumine and Scaramouche standing together, alone in a world that has forgotten him, reinforcing their special connection.
This moment in Inversion of Genesis is one of the most emotionally charged exchanges between Lumine and Wanderer. Despite his usual sharp tongue and guarded nature, Wanderer’s tone softens when speaking to Lumine, showing a rare vulnerability. His willingness to accept the consequences of his past actions, even if it means facing vengeance from the Raiden Gokaden descendants, speaks to his evolving character. For ScaraLumi shippers, this scene is particularly significant. Wanderer, who has often been closed off and dismissive, actually acknowledges Lumine’s presence and reaction to his words. In the first option, where Lumine remains silent, his immediate response—“What’s that look for? Don’t make that face, I know what I’m doing.”—implies that he notices and possibly even cares about her concern. This is a subtle but meaningful moment where he indirectly reassures her, something he rarely does with others. In the second option, when Lumine responds with a firm “Fine,” his amused reaction—“Hehe, no nonsense. I like it.”—suggests a certain fondness for her straightforward nature. It plays into the push-and-pull dynamic between them: Lumine doesn't coddle him, but she also doesn't reject his struggles outright. This balance between acceptance and challenge is a key aspect of their evolving relationship. Regardless of which response the player chooses, Wanderer’s voice remains notably soft when speaking to Lumine. This consistency in his tone, contrasted with his usual harshness toward others, further highlights that he sees Lumine differently. Many fans interpret this as proof that she holds a special place in his journey—someone he trusts, or at the very least, respects in a way that goes beyond mere cooperation. This scene also ties into the broader themes of ScaraLumi: the gradual unraveling of Wanderer’s emotional barriers and Lumine’s role in witnessing (and sometimes challenging) his growth. It’s one of those small but powerful interactions that keep fans invested in their dynamic, as it showcases the delicate balance between antagonism, understanding, and perhaps even an unspoken sense of companionship.
Another pivotal moment that solidified ScaraLumi’s appeal was when Wanderer, having regained his memories, asks Lumine to give him a new name. This request is deeply significant, as it represents his search for identity and a new beginning. Considering that his creator never gave him a name, his decision to entrust Lumine with this task holds immense emotional weight. Many fans see this as a sacred and intimate gesture, symbolizing a fresh start that Lumine helps him create. This scene became one of the most beloved moments in the Genshin Impact fandom, further reinforcing the depth of their relationship and adding emotional layers to their bond.
Sharing the same or a similar name with someone holds deep symbolic meaning, often representing identity, connection, and destiny. Across different cultures and narratives, a shared name signifies unity, closeness, and a bond that transcends the ordinary. In Genshin Impact, when Wanderer asks Lumine to name him, and later expresses approval of sharing her name, this moment becomes profoundly significant.
For Wanderer, who struggled with identity and abandonment, this request is more than just naming—it’s a search for belonging and validation. His creator never gave him a name, leaving him feeling disconnected from the world, and yet, in this moment, he entrusts Lumine with a responsibility no one else had before. By approving of sharing her name, Wanderer is essentially aligning himself with Lumine, as if to say, I see myself in you. I want to be connected to you.
In romantic symbolism, sharing a name is often linked to deep emotional bonds, much like how married couples take each other’s surnames to signify their union. ScaraLumi shippers see this moment as a sign of their deepening relationship, almost like an unspoken partnership or intimacy. This interpretation has sparked playful jokes within the fandom, with many humorously declaring them as a “married couple” simply because they now share a name. Beyond the humor, though, this subtle but powerful moment speaks to Wanderer’s evolving character—from someone who rejected attachment to someone who willingly accepts a connection with Lumine.
For Wanderer, whose past is filled with betrayal and loneliness, being named by Lumine is a fresh start, and sharing her name signifies trust, acceptance, and transformation. It’s a sign of how much he values her and the bond they have developed, showing that their relationship has grown from enemies to something far more significant—where they now share not just experiences, but even a piece of their identity.
When Wanderer’s ability to be named by the player was first leaked, fans immediately noticed the striking parallels between him and the Traveler. At the beginning of Genshin Impact, the Traveler is also given a customizable name, allowing players to choose their identity. Now, with Wanderer being the only other playable character with this feature, it solidifies the unique connection between them. This means that Traveler and Wanderer are the only characters whose names can be changed by the player, further emphasizing their narrative parallels.
This connection adds to the ScaraLumi dynamic, as it symbolizes how closely tied their journeys are. Whether it’s through shared experiences, struggles, or even something as personal as a name, their paths continue to intertwine in ways that make their bond feel truly special.
ScaraLumi’s Explosive Popularity in China
Following the release of this Archon Quest, ScaraLumi skyrocketed in popularity, becoming the most popular Scaramouche ship in China in 2023. The emotional weight of their shared history, unspoken tension, and moments of unexpected closeness resonated deeply with fans. This surge in popularity led to an influx of fan art, fanfiction, and discussions, cementing ScaraLumi as one of the most iconic and beloved pairings in the Genshin Impact community.
Version 3.6[]
In the Interdarshan Championship, Lumine and Wanderer meet again for the first time since the intense events of Inversion of Genesis. This reunion is significant for ScaraLumi shippers, as it marks a major shift in their relationship—no longer defined by pure hostility but by a growing understanding and mutual respect.
While their dynamic still carries moments of tension and sharp exchanges, the bitterness has noticeably softened. Unlike their past confrontations, Lumine no longer treats Wanderer as a pure enemy, and Wanderer no longer holds the same scornful distance toward her. This shift adds a new layer of complexity and intrigue to their interactions, making their relationship even more compelling for fans.
This progression aligns perfectly with the "Enemies to Lovers" trope, where characters move from intense opposition to a more cooperative and emotionally charged relationship. Their growth from adversaries to reluctant allies, with the potential for something deeper, has been a major appeal for shippers. Each new interaction hints at further development, leaving fans eager for more moments between them as their story continues.
Another Parallel: Shared Nicknames
One of the most amusing parallels between Lumine and Wanderer is how they both receive nicknames based on their appearance.
When Nahida coined the name “Hat Guy” for Wanderer, fans immediately noticed the similarity to how Lumine has been given various nicknames based on her blonde hair such as “Blond-Haired Outlander” Just as Lumine is often identified by her striking hair, Wanderer’s defining accessory—his hat—becomes his identifier. This parallel highlights their similarities, as both characters are recognized and labeled based on their unique appearances rather than their actual names.
This shared experience adds another layer to their unspoken connection, reinforcing how their paths continue to mirror each other in unexpected ways. Fans love picking up on these details, seeing them as further proof that Lumine and Wanderer are uniquely linked, both narratively and symbolically.
Version 4.8[]
The Simulanka event has further deepened the connection between Lumine and Wanderer, adding more layers to their already complex relationship. Their interactions, filled with tension, reluctant cooperation, and unexpected tenderness, have made them one of the most compelling duos in Genshin Impact.
One of the standout moments in Simulanka that sent shippers into a frenzy was when Wanderer saved Lumine not once, but twice. Carrying her to safety both times showcased a side of him that he rarely reveals—one that, despite his snarky demeanor, still chooses to protect her. What truly heightened the excitement, however, was his flirtatious line when Lumine wakes up in his arms: “Morning, sunshine. You were having a nice little dream there, weren’t you? Not gonna lie, it was kind of adorable.” This teasing remark, combined with his usual smirk, made it one of the most memorable ScaraLumi moments. The contrast between his sharp attitude and these rare, softer interactions makes their dynamic all the more captivating for fans.

Another moment that melted fans’ hearts was Wanderer’s interaction with Mini Durin. When Durin innocently reminded him that he had said he wanted to be friends, Wanderer initially pushed back, grumbling that he might have spoken too soon. But when Lumine gave him a disapproving look, he immediately caved and agreed to join Durin. Chinese fans found this moment hilarious and incredibly telling, affectionately dubbing it “Strict Wife Control”—a trope where a normally arrogant or defiant male character finds himself unexpectedly influenced by the quiet authority of the female lead. It’s a recurring theme in their interactions: Wanderer often acts cold and indifferent, but when Lumine is involved, he finds himself bending in ways he normally wouldn’t.
The Meaning of Names: Lumine is the Only One Who Calls Him by the Name She Gave Him
One of the most profound aspects of their relationship is the significance of names.
- In the presence of others, Wanderer is often referred to as "Hat Guy," a nickname given by Nahida. This creates a distance between him and the people around him.
- However, in private moments, Lumine calls him by the special name she gave him, making it a unique bond that no one else shares.
- This mirrors how Aether is the only one who calls Lumine by her true name, as everyone else refers to her as “Traveler.”
Scaramouche has gone viral for his similarities with other characters, such as Furina, Albedo, Kazuha, and Sethos. However, his parallels with the Traveler (Lumine or Aether) remain uniquely rare and distinct (see Trivia for more details). While social media often focuses on his connections with other characters, the depth of his narrative parallels with the Traveler is unmatched. Unlike the more widely discussed connections, the parallels between Wanderer and the Traveler are not just surface-level coincidences—they are deeply woven into their character arcs, game mechanics, and storytelling, making their connection stand out in ways that most people do not immediately recognize.
One of the rarest aspects of their connection is that they are the only two playable characters whose names can be customized. At the beginning of Genshin Impact, the player chooses the Traveler’s name, and after the Inversion of Genesis Archon Quest, Wanderer becomes the only other character with this mechanic. This further cements their unique connection in terms of identity. Additionally, neither of them is widely recognized by their real name. The Traveler is known as "Traveler" or "Outlander" by most characters, even though Aether and Lumine have real names. Likewise, Wanderer is mostly called "Hat Guy" despite Lumine giving him a true name. Both characters are defined more by titles than personal names, setting them apart from others in Teyvat.
Another parallel is the way both receive nicknames based on their appearances. Wanderer is referred to as "Hat Guy," while Lumine is called "Blond-Haired Outlander." These nicknames focus on visual traits rather than who they truly are. Neither particularly likes these names, yet they still allow others to use them. Additionally, the act of naming carries significant meaning in their relationship. Despite Nahida and Paimon being present when Lumine named Wanderer, neither uses the name she gave him. This mirrors how only Aether calls Lumine by her real name, while the rest of the world calls her "Traveler." Traditionally, when only one person calls you by a name they created for you, it signifies a deep emotional connection, authority, or a shared past that no one else is part of.
Both characters also wield "Hero" weapons, reinforcing their shared narrative roles. Wanderer wields the Hero’s Sword in Simulanka, while the Traveler wields the Hero’s Blade in Narzissenkreuz. No other characters are explicitly given "hero" weapons in the same way. Additionally, both have flying companions they personally saved—Traveler saved Paimon, and Wanderer saved Mini Durin. They are the only two playable characters with this specific trait. Their connection to dragons further strengthens their parallels. Lumine purified Dvalin’s tear, turning its red color blue, while Wanderer reassured Durin in Simulanka, causing Durin’s red eyes to turn blue. This color symbolism reflects their roles as guiding lights to corrupted or lost creatures.
Perhaps the most defining parallel is that both of them are outlanders in a world that is not their own. Lumine (or Aether) is an outlander in Teyvat, and Wanderer is treated as an outsider in Simulanka. Despite not belonging, both take on the role of heroes in their respective stories. Unlike Wanderer’s more viral parallels with Furina, Kazuha, and Sethos, his connection with Lumine/Aether is uniquely mechanical, symbolic, and emotional—elements that do not exist with other characters. While social media discussions focus on his similarities with others, the Traveler remains the only character who truly mirrors Wanderer in a way that shapes their identities.
This realization makes ScaraLumi (or ScaraAether) an even more compelling dynamic because their bond is built on something far deeper than aesthetics or shared story beats. Their connection is tied to their very existence as playable protagonists, their struggles with identity, and their journeys as outlanders in a world that does not fully accept them.
People often claim that the Traveler and Wanderer don’t parallel each other, but it's clear from the moment Wanderer was introduced as a playable character. His name, "Wanderer," is a synonym for the twins main title and as shown their character introduction "Traveler", highlighting their similarities. Fans who have followed the story since 2022[7][8] have noticed these parallels and similarities, as both characters are outsiders in their worlds (Teyvat for Traveler and Simulanka for Wanderer), navigating unfamiliar territories. The connection between the two is obvious to those who paid attention to the plot and their shared journey.
Version 5.1[]
Fans have expressed their love for the relationship between Lumine and Wanderer through heartfelt observations, emphasizing how Lumine consistently checks in on him despite his preference for solitude. One notable example is how she chooses to spend his birthday with him, not through overwhelming gestures, but by quietly reading together. Later, she suggests going for a walk, showing that she respects his space while still wanting to share a meaningful moment. During the festival, she actively seeks him out to see how he is doing, reinforcing her commitment to their bond.
Another fan pointed out a particularly amusing moment in which Wanderer seemingly contradicts himself. At one point, he states, "Do I strike you as someone who wants to hold hands and dance with everyone?" This line immediately sparked playful debates among fans, who humorously called him a liar. They argue that he is, in fact, the type to hold hands—just not with everyone. The only exception, they claim, is Lumine, referencing how he willingly holds hands with her during his birthday line and when they read each other's mind in Inversion of Genesis. This moment further reinforces the idea that while Wanderer keeps others at a distance, Lumine holds a unique place in his life.
Other[]
- “...You mean, you wish you had a heart? Hmm, have you ever heard that story before? There once was a puppet soldier, whose greatest wish was to be with a ballerina doll forever and ever. But the soldier didn't have a heart, and didn't know where his feelings came from. One day, his owner didn't want him anymore, and threw him away into a fire. But even in the flames, his eyes never left the ballerina. The next day, the people found a tiny heart in the ashes left by the fire.”

Character Teaser - "Wanderer- Ashes" - Genshin Impact
(Minute: 0:25 - 1:00)
Following the release of Wanderer's character teaser, titled "Wanderer: Ashes," fans quickly began to draw parallels between him and Lumine, envisioning them as the Soldier and the Ballerina from Hans Christian Andersen's tragic love story, The Steadfast Tin Soldier. This connection resonates deeply with shippers, reflecting a beautifully poignant narrative that mirrors their evolving relationship.
In The Steadfast Tin Soldier, the soldier falls in love with the ballerina because he believes they share the same fate—both standing on one leg. This idea of connection through similarity mirrors Wanderer and Lumine, who share many similarities in their journeys. The way the soldier admires the ballerina reflects Wanderer’s growing feelings for Lumine, as they come to understand and support each other.
One of the most striking parallels comes from a key moment in the story. In the original tale, the soldier is thrown into the fire, yet his eyes never leave the ballerina, symbolizing his unwavering devotion. This mirrors the events of Interlude Chapter: Inversion of Genesis, where Lumine is about to be attacked by the Shouki no Kami while protecting Wanderer. In that moment, after regaining his memories, his gaze never wavers from her, and he instinctively jumps in to save her, despite the danger. The scene, surrounded by smoke and fire, resembles the soldier’s final moments after he is cast into the flames. The connection becomes even stronger when considering the aftermath of this event. In Andersen’s tale, after the soldier burns, only a small tin heart remains. Similarly, after saving Lumine, Wanderer receives his Anemo Vision—his heart.
What makes this parallel even more significant is that "Wanderer: Ashes" was released before Interlude Chapter: Inversion of Genesis. This means that, in hindsight, the teaser serves as foreshadowing for Wanderer and the Traveler’s relationship. At the time of its release, many people may not have fully understood the deeper meaning behind the imagery, but after experiencing the events of the Archon Quest, the connections became undeniable. The visual and narrative cues in the teaser subtly hinted at Wanderer’s eventual turning point—his regained memories, his decision to protect Lumine, and his ultimate transformation.

The Ballerina Doll's and Lumine's Design Similarities
Fans were particularly excited to notice a striking design element in the Ballerina’s outfit featured in the teaser: the pattern on her chest closely resembles the unique design found on Lumine's boots. This detail is not merely a coincidence; it serves as a visual connection between the two characters and reinforces the idea of their intertwined fates. The design is exclusive to Lumine, making it a special hallmark of her character and enhancing the notion that she and Wanderer are destined to be linked both narratively and aesthetically. If you want to see more about their similarities you can view this post.
Overall, the thematic elements drawn from The Steadfast Tin Soldier add depth to the ScaraLumi ship, enriching the story with layers of tragedy, devotion, and the potential for redemption. As fans continue to explore this connection, the imagery of the Soldier and Ballerina serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty and complexity of their relationship, elevating Wanderer and Lumine to a mythic status within the fandom. This tragic love story encapsulates their struggles and hopes, making ScaraLumi a pairing filled with emotional resonance and potential for growth.
Shippers also often use the name Kunikuzushi for Scaramouche, as it is a name he gave himself in canon.
The fans have found new meaning in Wanderer's ability to fly. His flight, achieved through his Anemo Vision, came only after he let go of his painful past and embraced a new life. Symbolically, his flight represents a kind of enlightenment, a release from worldly troubles that mirrors Zen Buddhist Philosophy. For Wanderer, learning to fly was a hard-won transformation. Lumine, on the other hand, could once fly naturally, but now she’s grounded, bound by the troubles and challenges of the world. In a way, Wanderer and Lumine’s positions have reversed. While he has found freedom, she has lost hers, highlighting a bittersweet irony in their relationship. What touches fans most is that, on Lumine’s birthday, Wanderer chooses to share his newfound gift of flight with her, giving her a glimpse of what she once had. Surprisingly, he doesn’t mock or tease her; instead, he quietly shares something meaningful. Fans see this moment as a rare, tender gesture from Wanderer, a side of him he might reserve only for her. It’s a powerful symbol of how far he's come—and how much he understands her.
Both Traveler and Scaramouche parallels to Lucifer, the fallen angel/morning star in Christianity.[9]
There are multiple “versions” of Scaramouche and Lumine. For Scaramouche, the versions include the following: Kabukimono (prior to his third betrayal), Scaramouche (prior to the Sumeru Interlude Quest), Amnesiac Wanderer (during the Sumeru Interlude quest, before regaining his memories), and Wanderer (after the Sumeru Interlude Quest). For Lumine, the versions include the following: Lumine or Traveler (as the main character of the story) and Abyss Lumine (as the Abyss Princess). Shippers often mix and match these versions within the ship. Some include: Scaramouche/Lumine, Wanderer/Lumine, Abyss Lumine/Kabukimono, and Abyss Lumine/Scaramouche.

- “Haha, it's interesting to see you scrambling around to find something."
- “Looking for this? Here, you're welcome.”
- — Wanderer to Lumine (description for the official art)
Shippers were once again pleasantly surprised when the Wanderer presented a Sumeru Rose to Lumine. A purple rose, which symbolizes romance, love, and admiration, sparked intrigue among fans. Many began to wonder why he found it noteworthy to gift her a flower while she was struggling to find something, leading to speculation about how long he had been quietly observing her. This gesture not only showcases Wanderer’s growing affection but also adds a layer of mystery to their relationship, inviting fans to delve into the nuances of his character.
In addition to the Sumeru Rose, the Wanderer's Birthday Mail for 2024 revealed that he sent Lumine three Padisarahs and three Nilotpala Lotuses. According to fans, the combination of these six flowers forms a beautiful bouquet, further symbolizing the romantic bond between the Wanderer and Lumine. Notably, the flowers he sent carry the colors most associated with the two of them: purple for the Wanderer and yellow for Lumine. This thoughtful selection reinforces their symbolic connection.
The Nilotpala Lotus, in particular, carries deep symbolic significance. The description[10] notes that "these plants only bloom at night with flowers as bright as the moon." This connection to moonlight is especially poignant, as Lumine's symbolism is the moon. Fans have eagerly pointed out the striking similarity between the Nilotpala Lotus's colors and Lumine's own hair and eyes, emphasizing that the flowers are not just a gift but a representation of their bond.
The phrase about the "great chariot of the moon goddess" shining with a light that matched the sun adds yet another layer to their relationship. It evokes imagery of celestial harmony and suggests that Lumine and the Wanderer share a unique connection, as if their destinies are intertwined. The moon and sun often represent contrasting yet complementary forces, much like the personalities of Wanderer and Lumine. Together, these themes enrich the symbolism of love, admiration, and destiny that the flowers convey, making the bouquet a powerful expression of their relationship.
Overall, these gestures—the Sumeru Rose and the carefully chosen bouquet—serve to deepen the emotional resonance of the ScaraLumi ship. They highlight the affection and admiration growing between the two characters while inviting fans to explore the rich symbolism and storytelling potential within their relationship. As shippers continue to dissect these elements, the connection between Wanderer and Lumine becomes increasingly vibrant and multifaceted, filled with romance and meaning.

Wanderer's Heart-Shaped Shadow
In Wanderer's official 2024 birthday art from "Taking Pictures and Recounting Good Times", observant fans noticed a subtle, heart-shaped shadow on his chest. This detail became apparent when they edited the image by adjusting the lighting and contrast, revealing the shape more clearly. The ScaraLumi fandom interpreted this shadow symbolically, connecting it to the idea of Lumine being "Wanderer's heart," as the artwork features him alongside Lumine and Paimon.
This observation isn't mere speculation, as the design appears deliberate rather than coincidental. The surrounding strokes and shading in the artwork seem random or less defined, contrasting the distinct and centered heart shape. This intentionality aligns with Wanderer's storyline, where his encounters with kind-hearted individuals, including the Traveler, inspired his desire for a heart—both figuratively and literally.[11] The heart-shaped shadow may signify this journey, adding layers of emotional meaning for fans who see Lumine as integral to his character growth.
Some fans have noticed that Xiangling's design and color palette match well with Lumine and Scaramouche. Xiangling’s vibrant hues closely resemble Scaramouche’s palette, while her eyes share a striking similarity with Lumine’s. When Freminet was introduced, fans observed that his color scheme also aligns with Scaramouche’s, and his hair color is reminiscent of Lumine’s. This led to a playful trend within the community, humorously portraying them as a “family.” Fans have also included Kujou Sara, Barbara, Candace, Layla, and Yunli (from HSR) in this "ScaraLumi family" group, as their designs and colors fit the aesthetic.
Xiangling, aside from her design, is known for her culinary mastery. She is the Head Chef at the Wanmin Restaurant in Liyue and also works as a waitress there. Passionate and creative, she excels in preparing hot and spicy dishes, earning her a strong reputation among the food enthusiasts of Chihu Rock. Despite her young age, Xiangling is a true master of the culinary arts, blending flavors with the expertise of a seasoned chef. Interestingly, Wanderer (Scaramouche) and Lumine also display a knack for cooking.
Theories[]

WanLumi and Kiamei holding hands.
Fans often draw parallels between the dynamics of ScaraLumi and Kiamei (Kiana x Mei), or other notable pairings, such as KevinMEI (Kevin Kaslana x Dr. MEI). Scaramouche is frequently compared to Raiden Mei, as both share similar appearances and thematic elements. For instance, in Wanderer’s Character Demo - "Wanderer: Of Solitude Past and Present," his attack against the Fatui Skirmisher mirrors Raiden Mei’s attack on Kiana in the Animated Short: Lament of the Fallen. Similarly, Lumine is sometimes seen as a counterpart to Kiana, with both characters embodying a heroic, knightly identity. Kiana is famously known as a "knight," especially through her battlesuit "Knight Moonbeam." Lumine, too, is associated with knightly roles—Nahida refers to her as the "Knight of Flowers" in her birthday event quest, and she is widely recognized as the "Honorary Knight of Favonius" in Mondstadt.
Additionally, there are notable moments of personal growth and vulnerability in their relationships. Raiden Mei’s act of learning to cook for Kiana shows her softer side, much like Scaramouche (as Wanderer), who reveals his cooking skills when preparing Shimi Chazuke for Lumine. While the exact moment Wanderer learned to cook remains unclear, it's established that he is skilled at it, especially when he makes this dish exclusively for Lumine (check the "Wanderer's Birthday").
Mei sleeps next to Kiana in the game. Similarly, in Wanderer's "Good Morning" and "Good Night" voice lines, he and Lumine sleep together.

Trivia[]
- Commonly used symbols to represent the ship are: “☂️✨”. Variations include: “☔️✨”, “🌂✨”, “🌀✨”, “🍵🍡”, “⚡️✨”, “🌀⚔️”, and “💙💛”.
- Lumine is notably older than she appears, having lived for over 500 years (she's a star descending from another world). This longevity is a result of her witnessing the fall of Khaenri'ah and traveling through numerous worlds before becoming separated from her twin brother, Aether. Lumine's constellation is the Viatrix.
- Wanderer, formerly known as Scaramouche, shares a similarly intricate background. He is estimated to be around 500 years old as well, a fact that adds layers to his character. Originally one of the Fatui Harbingers, Wanderer is a prototype puppet created by the Electro Archon, Raiden Ei (his creator), after the Cataclysm. His creation involved advanced technology derived from the lost civilization of Khaenri'ah, which imbues him with a unique identity and significance in the world of Teyvat. Wanderer's constellation is the Peregrinus.
- An Official CN Promo video (2023) showing Lumine wearing a “Kasa hat” exactly like Scaramouche's (Time: 1:50-1:54).[12]
- In HoYoverse's Offical Fan-made Beach Art, both Scaramouche and Lumine can be seen in the back. Scaramouche is shown drinking from a coconut while Lumine is sweating.[13]
- HoYoverse officially chose a ScaraLumi fanart as a winner in a competition. That was the only ship art that was chosen when HoYoverse was presenting the other winners. The original LOFTER account of the artist has a ScaraLumi shipping hashtag on their post (#散荧), the artist also adds that the fanart was based on the Wanderer's «Birthday» Voiceline[14]
- An official ScaraLumi fan art piece (confirmed by the original artist), has been reposted twice by HoYoverse on Twitter.[15][16] It was also shared on the official HoyoLab Twitter and their YouTube account for promotional purposes. The artwork shows Scaramouche and Lumine sitting alone on the same seat, with Scaramouche peacefully sleeping, his head leaning towards Lumine’s.[17]
- There is a chibi illustration of Wanderer giving a Sumeru Rose to the Traveler (Lumine). The post can be viewed here.
- A single flower can symbolize unity—representing togetherness and the concept of “one heart.” In Chinese culture, giving a single rose traditionally means "You’re my only love" and "Love at first sight."
- The rose has long been associated with love, passion, and deep affection. When you give someone a single rose, it symbolizes simplicity, purity, and undivided attention. It conveys the message, "You are the one," or "My feelings for you are sincere and singular."
- The Sumeru Rose, which is purple, may also symbolize mystery, enchantment, and admiration, as purple flowers often represent these emotions in the language of flowers. With ties to nobility and royalty, purple roses tell the one you love that they're the most important person in your life. These flowers are for committed, long-term relationships.
- Lumine and Wanderer are often shown together in HoYoFair fan works.
- Based on the LOFTER rankings, the most popular Scaramouche ship in China is ScaraLumi (Ranked in Top 1).
- Based on the LOFTER rankings, ScaraLumi is the second most popular Genshin ship.
- Based on the PIXIV rankings, ScaraLumi is the 13th most popular Genshin ship.
- In a Chinese and Japanese ship survey for every single ship in Genshin Impact, ScaraLumi is ranked 13th place overall, making it one of the most popular Genshin ships in general.
- The ship popularity ranking for Lofter shows it has around 17,379 posts on the tags in 2023.
- Based on the LOFTER rankings, ScaraLumi is the third most popular M/F Genshin ship with 17,914 works.
- ScaraLumi is ranked in top 15 in CP/Ships of Genshin for 2024: Lofter and Pixiv
- An electronic billboard in China was dedicated to Scaramouche in celebration of his birthday. It also featured ScaraLumi, while no other Scaramouche ships were displayed.[citation needed]
- In Mihoyo Games New Year Party 2025, Lumine and Scarameow can be seen on the right side.
- According to Lofter 2025 data, ScaraLumi is currently ranked #12 among Genshin Impact ships.
- Based on Lofter's anime and game ship rankings, ScaraLumi is sitting at #185.
- Wanderer's Birthday
- Wanderer is one of the few characters who consistently receives thoughtful, handmade gifts from Lumine for his birthday.
- In the accompanying text of the CN post of Wanderer's Birthday Art (2023), Wanderer is initially aloof towards Lumine, but as she lingers, he softens, hinting at his growing comfort around her by suggesting they sit together for a while, despite his indifference toward birthdays. This moment subtly highlights his willingness to share quiet, personal time with her. , original chinese language from the post, however if you translated it to English - ("What a coincidence, it's been some time since we last met. Well then, have a nice day. ...You're not leaving? Don't tell me you came all this way to see me? To be honest, I don't really care for celebrating birthdays, and I don't have anything to give you in return for your well-wishes. If you don't mind, perhaps... we could sit here together for a while.")
- In the birthday letter of the same year (2023), Wanderer tells Lumine how Nahida kept asking him to visit the Akademiya, and when he wildered in the wilderness instead, she found him and told him that it can be very painful to be alone all the time, suggesting that he should atleast come and see Lumine and bring her something on his birthday. He then remarks how absurd it is to give someone else a present on his own birthday, and says how Nahida might be trying to make his life more fulfilling, but she doesn’t consider what it is like for others to meet him. The letter ends with Wanderer saying how he got dragged into a cooking interest group, and that he is giving the food to Lumine as it is not to his taste. He says she can eat it if she likes or throw them away if she doesn’t.
- Wanderer's English voice actor, Patrick Pedraza, read the letter on his YouTube channel.
- In “Taking Pictures and Recounting Good Times” (2023), Paimon admires the delicious desserts at the café, feeling hungry, while Lumine (the Traveler) jokingly suggests that Paimon is too distracted by food to move. Lumine proposes taking a break and sitting down, but the Wanderer remarks disapprovingly about Paimon’s predictable habits. Paimon retorts, saying he has an awful way of speaking and vows to give him an ugly nickname. The Wanderer dismisses her comment, and when Lumine offers him coffee instead of dessert, he declines, stating he doesn’t need any more sugar.
- In the blog post for 2023, Teyvat Food Notes [5] [6], Lumine and Wanderer cooked Shimi Chazuke together at Lumine's place.
- In Wanderer's Character Shorts for his Birthday (2023), Lumine gifts the Wanderer a birthday present.
- In the accompanying text of Wanderer's birthday art (2024), Wanderer maintains his guarded nature with Lumine, cautiously inviting her in while ensuring no one follows. He downplays typical birthday greetings, but in a rare moment of softness, he indirectly shares warmth by giving her a fluffball (a cat) to play with.
- Wanderer's English voice actor, Patrick Pedraza, read the letter on his YouTube channel.
- In the letter of the same year (2024), Wanderer told Lumine that a group of students at the Akademiya had surprised him with an overly sweet cake, and it was so absurd that he couldn't help but laugh. However, their little prank reminded him that there was someone he needed to give a gift to (Lumine). He mentioned that since he would be the one choosing the gift, it would reflect his own tastes, but he hoped she would like it. If she had any opinions about it, she should tell him in person.
- Wanderer gifts Lumine his specialty [dish], accompanied by three Padisarahs and three Nilotpala Lotuses. Gifting flowers symbolizes love, appreciation, and affection, making it a heartfelt way to show someone you care.
- The specific choice of three Padisarahs and three Nilotpala Lotuses carries deeper significance. In traditional flower symbolism, giving three flowers represents "I love you." When combined, the total of six flowers can symbolize "I want to be yours," reinforcing the message of devotion and longing.
- Additionally, both Padisarahs and Nilotpala Lotuses are rare and beautiful flowers in Sumeru.
- Wanderer gifts Lumine his specialty [dish], accompanied by three Padisarahs and three Nilotpala Lotuses. Gifting flowers symbolizes love, appreciation, and affection, making it a heartfelt way to show someone you care.
- In “Taking Pictures and Recounting Good Times” (2024), they went to the library, Paimon spots the Wanderer and expresses surprise at seeing him there. The Wanderer explains that some Vahumana students were recommending books to him, but he prefers to flip through them without much interest. When Lumine suggests going for a walk, the Wanderer declines, enjoying the peace of the library. Lumine then decides to read a book alongside him. As they read, Paimon eventually asks if they’ve forgotten about dinner, highlighting how engrossed they’ve become in their activities.
- In the accompanying text of Wanderer's birthday art (2025), For Wanderer's birthday, he initially teases Lumine about her handmade gift, calling its craftsmanship mediocre and questioning if that's truly how she sees him. Despite his playful remarks, he accepts the gift, noting that he's already received plenty of unusual things from her in the past. When he learns that even Mini Durin prepared something for him, he softens, acknowledging their efforts and the thought behind the gesture. As he notices Lumine's grin, he remarks that they seem to have been more excited about this day than he was.
- Wanderer's English voice actor, Patrick Pedraza, read the letter on his YouTube channel.
- Wanderer's CN VA, 鹿喑kana, read Wanderer's birthday letter on BiliBili and with the english dubs is posted by Rachii荔枝 on Twitter.
- In Wanderer's birthday letter (2025), he humorously remarks about his mysterious reputation for being absent on his birthday, saying he has no idea how it started. He recounts an encounter in Treasures Street, where Cyno (the "big-eared hat guy") handed him a stack of Genius Invokation TCG cards, claiming to have "high hopes" for him. Sethos (the "green-eyed desert guy") also backed Cyno, encouraging Wanderer to make friends through the game. Although Wanderer finds the idea of forming bonds over a card table ridiculous, he admits he'd rather team up with Lumine than play cards with strangers like them. He ends the letter by asking her about which nickname suits Cyno better: "Big-Eared Hat" or "Hat Ears."
- Wanderer knows both Cyno and Sethos but considers them strangers. Despite their insistence on playing TCG with him, Wanderer openly states he'd rather team up/spend time with "Lumine" than play cards with "strangers" like them or people "he doesn't know very well".
- CN Original: 想来你不会在这件事上同意他们的观点。与其跟陌生人打牌,我更选择跟你一起行动。EN: Translation: Presumably you won't agree with them on this matter. Instead of playing cards with strangers, I choose to act with you.
- JP: 君なら、そんな阿呆らしいことは言わないよね?よく知らない連中と札遊びするより、君と一緒にいたほうがいい。 EN Translation: You wouldn't say something stupid like that, right? I'd rather be with you than play cards with people I don't know very well.
- Wanderer's reaction to Lumine's handmade gift on his birthday varies between the Chinese and English versions. In the Chinese (Simplified) original, he says: "我在你心里就长这个样子吗?" which translates to: "Is this how I look like in your heart?" Meanwhile, the English localization renders this line differently as: "Is this how you see me?". The handmade gift Lumine created for Wanderer appears to depict him looking annoyed or mad, which might explain why he questions if that’s truly how she perceives him.
- Wanderer knows both Cyno and Sethos but considers them strangers. Despite their insistence on playing TCG with him, Wanderer openly states he'd rather team up/spend time with "Lumine" than play cards with "strangers" like them or people "he doesn't know very well".
- The synonym for "Wanderer" is "Traveler." Despite their differences, the two share parallels, striking similarities in their stories and roles in Teyvat:
- Both Lumine and Wanderer endure a sense of loss and disconnection from the world, which shapes their identities and paths.
- Lumine was sealed away for 500 years, trapped in a deep slumber haunted by nightmares. She awoke to a world changed beyond recognition, stripped of everything familiar and left to wander in search of answers - Quotes from Traveler’s Character Story 1: "The god took your only kin away, and you were sealed and cast into a deep slumber filled with nightmares." "When you reawakened, the world was changed." "How long had you been asleep? You had no answers."
- Similarly, the Wanderer (formerly Scaramouche) experienced isolation and abandonment. He was left to reflect endlessly on his own existence, his memories locked away in his mind, which became a metaphorical prison - Quotes from Wanderer's Character Story 1: "Any recollection must begin several hundred years ago, when the puppet that shed tears upon being born would not be given a name, but was instead only given a small golden feather as proof of his personage." “He would be laid to rest within the Shakkei Pavilion, staring blankly at the beauteous scenery within. The flaming maple leaves, the exquisite window lattices... Within that lovely prison, he lost all perception."
- Both Wanderer and Lumine were trapped in prolonged isolation.
- The passage of time caused both to lose their sense of perception — Wanderer lost touch with reality, and Lumine lost her connection to the familiar world.
- Despite being surrounded by beauty (the maple leaves for Wanderer, the changed world for Lumine), neither could find peace or comfort upon awakening.
- The Wanderer's constellation, Peregrinus, translates to "wanderer," "foreigner," "traveler," "pilgrim," or "outlander." These meanings resonate deeply with the Traveler, whose constellation and journey embody each of these qualities. This connection highlights the striking similarity between their destinies.[18]
- Only Archons have themselves as their constellations, with the exception of Lumine (the Traveler) and Wanderer, who also have themselves as their constellations. Perhaps there's something unique about Lumine that explains why she have herself as her constellation. For Wanderer, it could be because he once sought divinity and tried to become an Archon, leaving him with residual traces of that divine pursuit.
- Wanderer can now fly using the power of his Anemo Vision. Meanwhile, Lumine—who once had this ability to fly—lost this after the Unknown God took away her powers. Their roles are reversed: Wanderer can now fly, while Lumine now walks. On her birthday, Wanderer gives Lumine a flight [possibly or they just hold hands] without teasing her, letting her relive the freedom she lost.
- Scaramouche is described as having a slender figure and a beautiful face, often noted for his beauty in various texts. On the other hand, Lumine is described as "cute" by the Shrine Maidens, with the Wanderer commenting that her sleeping expression is "adorable" and her eyes are "pretty".
- Lumine loves sweets and isn't fond of bitter tastes, while Wanderer is fond of bitter tastes and despises sweets.
- The description of the flower that Lumine wears in her hair was mentioned that the Inteyvat flower is a symbol of a Wanderer far from home. [19]
- At the end of the cutscene in Xianyun's Story Quest, there's an interesting detail: some birds of the same species appear alongside the Wanderer in official art and the official trailer, are also seen with Lumine. Additionally, the same type of birds are featured in both Raiden Ei's and Yae Miko's idle animations.
- The Wanderer and the Traveler are the only playable characters whose names you can customize[20]
- Both share a similar introductory from the BP and the IoG.
- In Genshin story, they showed us the different titles of "Scaramouche": Kuronushi, Kunikuzushi, Kabukimono, the Balladeer, Shouki no Kami, Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal, Everlasting Lord of Arcane Wisdom, Sixth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, Hero of Simulanka, and Hero of Prophecy. The "Traveler (Lumine)" also receives different titles in Teyvat: Honorary Knight of the Knights of Favonius, Visitor From Outer Worlds, Destined One , Captain of Swordfish II, First Sage of Buer, Fourth Descender, Master of the Jinni, Yasnapati of the Pari, Honorary Senior Researcher of the Fontaine Research Institute, Ann's Holy Blade of Narzissenkreuz, Super Zenith Boss-Level Force, God of Victorious Linebreaking, Witness of Teyvat, and more.
- Both thought that the Aranara resembled a "cabbage".
- "A cabbage that... moves?" — Wanderer in Web Event "Fluttering Footsteps In The Fields"
- "Kind of like... a cabbage?" — Lumine [21]
- At the end of Wanderer's dialogue about Sethos, he remarks, "Hmph, somehow, everyone knows the name 'Hat Guy' now..." suggesting his true name isn’t widely recognized. This, along with the conclusion of Bedtime Story 4.7 Archon Quest, suggests that neither Wanderer nor Lumine is recognized by their real names.
- Lumine is the only one who calls Wanderer by the name she gave him. Similarly, her twin brother, Aether, is the only person who knows her real name and the only one in Teyvat who calls her by it.
- Both Lumine and Wanderer have received nicknames based on their appearances. Wanderer is often referred to as "Hat Guy," while Lumine is called "Blond-haired Outlander."
- Neither of them particularly likes these appearance-based nicknames, but they still allow others to call them by these names quite often.[22]
- Paimon should technically know the Traveler’s real name because Aether calls her "Lumine" instead of "Traveler." This was explicitly shown during the Archon Quest We Will Be Reunited, where Paimon was present when their sibling addressed them by name. Despite this, Paimon continues to refer to Lumine as "Traveler" (or whatever name the player chooses).
- When Lumine gave Wanderer a name, both Paimon and Nahida were present. However, instead of using the name she chose, Nahida coined the nickname "Hat Guy," which quickly spread and became how most people refer to him. As a result, despite Lumine naming him, Wanderer is now more commonly known as "Hat Guy" rather than his real name.
- Traditionally, when only one person calls you by a name they originally created for you, it signifies a deep personal connection, often reflecting intimacy, significance, or a unique bond between the two individuals. This can symbolize:
- A Special Relationship – The name represents something personal that only they share. It can imply closeness, whether as a sign of affection, understanding, or even a past that deeply connects them.
- Authority or Influence – The person who names someone often holds a unique place in their life, whether as a mentor, protector, or someone who has shaped their identity.
- A Reminder of the Past – If no one else uses the name, it may serve as a relic of a time that only the two of them remember, making it emotionally significant.
- A Sense of True Identity – When only one person calls you by a certain name, it can be a reminder of who you truly are, beyond the roles or identities you’ve taken on over time.
- Since Lumine (or Aether, depending on the player's choice) is the only one who calls Scaramouche by the name she gave him, it means that she holds a unique place in his life—perhaps as someone who once saw him differently from how the world does now. It could also symbolize a connection to his past self, before he became who he is in the present storyline.
- Both Lumine and Wanderer endure a sense of loss and disconnection from the world, which shapes their identities and paths.
- Wanderer wields a golden sword known as the "Hero's Sword," while the Traveler has the "Hero's Blade" in Narzissenkreuz.[23]
- Both characters have flying companions: Paimon for the Traveler and Mini Durin for Wanderer.
- Both Wanderer and Lumine rescued their companion.[24]
- Both of them being an outlander from another world (Wanderer and Mini Durin in Simulanka) trying to save the world with their companions. The hero in Simulanka is from another world, and since Wanderer is the hero, he, too, is from an outer world in Simulanka.
- Lumine (Hero of Teyvat) and Wanderer (Hero of Simulanka) are both considered heroes.
- When Lumine purified Dvalin's tear, its red color turned into blue. This parallels the moment when Wanderer gently reassures Durin, the Simulanka Dragon, saying, "It's alright now," as the dragon's red eyes shift to blue.
- They both have drawing skills (though Lumine is moderately good at it).[25][26][27]
- Both have good cooking skills.
- Both characters are considered smart.
- Both have a feather accessory: a gold one for the Wanderer, attached to his vision, and a blue one for Lumine, which is her earrings.
- Both are associated with flowers—Lumine with the Inteyvat Flower, seen on her head and also on her dress, and Wanderer with the lotus, symbolized by his hat.
- They share a visual theme with inverted colors of feathers and flowers: yellow for Wanderer and blue for Lumine.
- Their contrasting yet sometimes matching color palettes, with both Lumine and Wanderer’s palettes containing blue, black, and white, yet their hair and eye colors are very different.
- Wanderer and Lumine's striking color palettes (Yellow & Blue) parallels one another.
- Both Wanderer and Lumine have a similar stepping animation in their kit.[28]
- Both characters also have similar voice lines, though Lumine’s is during her Dendro elemental burst, while Wanderer’s plays when he starts sprinting:
- Lumine: "Spring forth!"
- Wanderer: "Surge forth!"
- The Elemental Burst skills of the Anemo Traveler (Lumine) and Wanderer has similarities:
- Both characters have flying companions: Paimon for the Traveler and Mini Durin for Wanderer.
- Kabukimono, Kunikuzushi, The Balladeer, and Scaramouche are all just titles, not his actual name. He never really had a true name to begin with. The only real name he ever had was the one Lumine (the Traveler) gave him.
- Scaramouche is one of two characters (the other character is Nahida) who actually gave an information about Lumine's twin brother, Aether.
- Scaramouche only revealed what he knew about Lumine’s brother—information he had learned from Pierro—because he noticed that Lumine looked upset. This suggests that, despite his usual demeanor, he didn’t want to see her distressed. His decision to share what he knew was an attempt to ease her worries, showing an unexpected level of consideration for her feelings.
- Similarly, in the Wanderer’s voice line at the Imaginarium Theater, he is initially reluctant to chat with Lumine. However, when she gives him a upset look, he ultimately gives in, asking if she is happy now.
- The same pattern appears in his reaction to losing against her in Genius Invocation TCG—he dismisses the game as boring, but once again, he pointedly asks if she is "happy" now, suggesting an awareness of her expectations and a tendency to yield.
- A similar dynamic is seen in his interaction with Durin. When Durin asks if Wanderer will join him, Wanderer responds with his usual annoyance, questioning why he would do so. However, when Durin, with childlike innocence, reminds him that he had said he wanted to be friends, Wanderer initially brushes it off and expresses frustration, saying he might have spoken too soon. Yet, it is Lumine’s subtle but meaningful influence that ultimately changes his mind—when she gives him a disapproving look, he finally relents and agrees to join Durin.
- Similarly, in the Wanderer’s voice line at the Imaginarium Theater, he is initially reluctant to chat with Lumine. However, when she gives him a upset look, he ultimately gives in, asking if she is happy now.

This suggests that, despite his usual demeanor, he didn’t want to see her distressed. His decision to share what he knew was an attempt to ease her worries, showing an unexpected level of consideration for her feelings.
- Wanderer always makes an exception for Lumine:
- These instances highlight that while Wanderer generally avoids social interactions and distractions, he consistently makes exceptions for Lumine.
- In his birthday mail, Wanderer mentions that Nahida understands his dislike for being around others. However, when she suggests that he could at least visit Lumine if he brings a gift, he finds the idea absurd— "But why should I give someone a present when it's my birthday?" Yet, despite his initial reluctance, he agrees anyway.
- Nahida also gives him a day off on his birthday, but in exchange, he must follow Lumine.
- Wanderer may not be the type to "hold hands and dance with everyone," but he is the type to hold hands—but only with Lumine, as he has asked her to hold his hand two times now.
- Wanderer canonically dislikes distractions, stating: "Hobbies? Those are for idle bodies who have the free time to think about such things. Do I look like I have any interest in distractions?" However, when Lumine asks him to play Genius Invokation TCG with her, he reluctantly agrees: "...Tch, fine, if you insist, I'll play with you for a bit..."
- Additionally, during an interaction, Cyno asks Wanderer if he plays Genius Invokation TCG. Wanderer responds with, "No" and "I don't play." This indicates that while he generally avoids the game, he makes an exception to play it with Lumine.[29]
- In the Wanderer’s voice line at the Imaginarium Theater, he is initially reluctant to chat with Lumine. However, when she gives him a upset look, he ultimately gives in.

- These instances highlight that while Wanderer generally avoids social interactions and distractions, he consistently makes exceptions for Lumine.
- Scaramouche/Wanderer is one of the few characters whose aware that Lumine and her twin brother comes from outside Teyvat.
- Scaramouche is one of the few characters who sees Lumine as an individual, separate from Paimon. For most other characters, Lumine is rarely seen as a distinct presence because Paimon often speaks on her behalf, making it difficult for others to view her independently.
- Most Genshin Impact characters begin their birthday voicelines for the Traveler with a simple "Happy Birthday," but Wanderer takes a different approach. Instead of directly wishing Lumine a happy birthday, his first line is: "Give me your hand," as he leads her to a vantage point.
- Scaramouche/Wanderer often teases Lumine.
- Scaramouche/Wanderer often shows interest whenever Lumine shows concern about him.
- Wanderer uses several nicknames for Lumine:
- He calls her an "Idiot" in his Birthday Letter 2024.
- In the 4.8 Summer Event: Until the End of the World Page III, he refers to her as "Sunshine" in the English and Russian versions, "Sleeping Beauty" in the Spanish version, and "Sleepy Head" in the Chinese and Japanese versions.
- He also calls her "Cute" in the Russian and Spanish versions, and "Adorable" in the English version.
- Touching or holding hands symbolizes affection, comfort, warmth, love, safety, psychological closeness, and empathy. The fact that Scaramouche/Wanderer reaches out to Lumine several times suggests that he finds this warmth in her and desires a deeper connection.[30]
- Scaramouche's choice of words in his dialogue with Lumine carries significant implications about his perception of her. He could have chosen a variety of adjectives to describe her eyes — such as "big," "weird," "annoying," "bright," "large," or even "gold" — yet he deliberately used the word "pretty." This choice suggests that Scaramouche canonically finds Lumine’s eyes attractive, even though they were still enemies at this point in the story. The line in question is: "All you have to do is keep your pretty eyes open and try not to fall behind."
- In Japanese culture, sharing an umbrella (referred to as "相合傘" or aiaigasa) holds a strong romantic connotation.[31][32] While it literally means "to share an umbrella," it is often interpreted as "Love-Love Umbrella," as the word for love (愛) is also pronounced ai. Sharing an umbrella as a couple symbolizes intimacy and mutual care, as it brings two people physically close within the limited space of the umbrella. This romantic association is so prominent that teenagers in Japan often draw an umbrella with their name and the name of their crush underneath it, similar to the way people draw hearts to signify affection. For example, this imagery is used in Tegomass's music video, where the characters create rain to encourage a boy and a girl to walk under an umbrella together, highlighting its symbolic romantic gesture. Japanese fans have drawn parallels to this tradition with Scaramouche’s hat, noting that his hat could serve as a stand-in for an umbrella. In his voice line to Lumine, he says: (僕の笠で雨宿りがしたい?よくもそんな要求ができるね。) "Do you want to take shelter from the rain with my hat? You can make such a request." Although he seems dismissive here, he doesn't outright refuse the request.
- The City of Winds and Idylls OST plays during the scene where Scaramouche asks Lumine to give him her hand. This track is originally a Mondstadt OST and is aptly named, as it reflects the emotions of the moment. The music highlights Lumine's slight apprehension towards his request, with its soft tone conveying subtle tension. The abrupt end of the melody, timed with her realization of his true intentions: sacrificing his self to save the people in Tatarasuna who died because of him, adds to the impact of the scene.
- Lumine’s and Wanderer’s mother/creator, Raiden Ei, have Chinese names that are spelled similarly, differing by only one letter: Yíng (Lumine’s Chinese name) and Yǐng (Ei’s Chinese name). “Yíng” means “light/glow,” while “Yǐng” translates to “shadow/dark.” [33]
- Wanderer is referred to be the Traveler’s companion.[34]
- In their first encounter, Lumine’s first compliment to Scaramouche was about his unique clothing choices.
- Aside from Paimon and Nahida, Lumine was the only person who truly remembered Scaramouche after he erased all information about his existence from Irminsul, since she's a 4th Descender.
- Because Descenders come from outside Teyvat, they are not bound to the world's laws and are unaffected by circumstances that affect beings from this world, so when Scaramouche erased himself from Irminsul, Lumine was not affected by this.
- Wanderer’s specialty dish, Shimi Chazuke, provides a healing bonus, suggesting that he cares about Lumine.[35]
- Whenever Lumine gives Wanderer a "disapproving look", he immediately changes his attitude.
- In Wanderer's Character Teaser, some fans have noticed interesting coincidences: the blonde ballerina doll may represent Lumine, while the nutcracker soldier, who wishes to be with her forever, might symbolize Scaramouche. A fan made a post about this theory.
- Xiao and Scaramouche's English voice actors role-played a scene where both characters are arguing. During the exchange, Xiao suggested they discuss everything over tea at Wanshu Inn with Lumine, which Scaramouche thought was a nice idea.[38]
- Scaramouche saved Lumine's life by protecting her from what was meant to be his body as a god, the Shouki no Kami, in the "Interlude" quest. He also saved her multiple times in "Summertide Scales and Tales: Page III," specifically in the segment titled "Until the End of the World".
- The Wanderer only gives positive feedback if the player attempts to name him the same as the Traveler, saying, "You want to share your name with me? Huh, not a bad choice." If the player doesn't attempt to name the Wanderer the same as the Traveler, he responds with, "...Ah, alright, if you say so."
- Scaramouche has affection for those who peer into his past and consciousness, which is something Lumine has done.
- One of Lumine's main symbols is the moon, and the Wanderer is often described as someone who gazes at it. In the official ad for the Wanderer titled «Farewell to an Upwind Feather», he is depicted gazing at the moon.
- Since the Wanderer is a person who wants to be alone all the time and seeks peace and quiet, it is surprising that he becomes really talkative when he is alone with Lumine - "Although he usually seems to be difficult to get close to, but after getting along with him for a period of time, I feel that he actually talks a lot...it's not a bad thing, I listened to him while cooking."
- Scaramouche/Wanderer has a keen awareness of Lumine's presence, as he always seems to sense whenever she is staring at him. This heightened perception indicates a deeper connection between them, suggesting that he is attuned to her feelings and attention, even in moments of distance or tension.
- Wanderer doesn’t mind silence as long as he still can be next to Lumine:
- "It's rather pathetic to force a conversation just to occupy silence."
- "So even if it gets painfully awkward during our meal, we can still atleast enjoy the food"
- “If you don't mind, perhaps... we could sit here together for a while.”
- “...Tch, fine, if you insist, I'll play with you for a bit...”
- (Wanderer's Birthday 2024 TPRGT) They both spend their time reading together:
- Paimon: Whoa! That guy over there is...
- Lumine: Shh—
- Paimon: (Quietly) Paimon didn't expect to bump into you in the library.
- Lumine: Then do you want to go out for a walk?
- Wanderer: No need. Nobody bothers me here. Some peacefulness is nice for a change.
- Lumine: I'll read a book with you, then.
- Wanderer: Suit yourself.
- Lumine picks up a book, sits down, and begins to read it.
- ...
- Paimon: Umm... Are the both of you still reading? Isn't it already time for dinner?
- Canonically, Lumine worries about and cares for Scaramouche/Wanderer, even though they are technically enemies. Despite their past conflicts, she shows concern for his well-being and feelings.
- When Scaramouche gaves Lumine a chance to kill him after he's done doing the job inside the Irminsul, she has no response.
- When Wanderer (with no memories) asks Lumine why she's helping him if they were enemies before, she also has no response.
- When Lumine explains Scaramouche's whole story to Nahida, it was described that she explained it "with a heavy heart".
- Lumine wonders what might have happened to Scaramouche after he erased all traces of his existence from Irminsul. Paimon, who noticed her upset expression asks what’s wrong and why she looks so upset.
- Nahida can only make inferences about Scaramouche's character, but she acknowledges that Lumine is the only one who truly remembers him.
- "I just feel... empty" and “He chose such a radical option, and yet...”
- Wanderer finds Lumine's fragile side/sleeping face adorable. He affectionately calls her "Sunshine," which adds a warm and endearing touch to their interactions.
- In Summertide Scales and Tales, Page III: Until the End of the World, Wanderer flies down to save Durin. Lumine runs toward him, possibly to help, but the platform she’s on breaks. Kirara rescues Lumine, and afterward, Lumine ran back and anxiously looks down to where Wanderer went after Durin, we can see her expression looked worried.[39]
- Lumine's English voice actress found it amazing and loves it when Scaramouche comments on Lumine’s pretty eyes. She even highlighted that moment as its own part of the video. In response to someone in the chat, she said, "He thinks I am pretty."[40]
- Aoi Yūki (Lumine's JP Voice Actor) stated in her interview that her favorite character in Genshin Impact is Scaramouche.[citation needed]
- They are shown together with Itto in the 3.3 Special Program LiveStream, both English and Korean versions.[41] [42]
- Lumine was explaining the Genius Invocation TCG, while Wanderer is making funny faces as she speaks.[43]
- In the 3.6 JP livestream, Wanderer mentions the Traveler (Lumine) four times, specifically referring to the in-game character rather than the general player.
- Additionally, it's notable that he continues to mention the Traveler despite their absence from the livestream
- Wanderer and Lumine are shown together with Paimon and Navia in the Chinese version of 4.8 Special Program LiveStream [Minute: 17:15].[44]
- Scaramouche's / Wanderer's Voicelines:
- In their Serenitea Pot interactions, Wanderer expresses that he really wants to take Lumine to the Harbinger's Banquet — Ah... what I wouldn't give to take you to one of the Harbingers' banquets." This can be seen as a significant moment, as inviting someone to a formal event like that could be interpreted as a "date." Given Wanderer's complicated past with the Fatui, it’s a personal and bold gesture, showing he values Lumine's presence enough to bring her into that part of his world.
- In Wanderer's «Birthday» Voiceline — "Give me your hand. Heh, there's no need to be nervous. I'm just taking you to a vantage point. How is it? The scenery here should be quite breathtaking. There's no need to thank me — I see little point in it", he asks Lumine to hold his hand as he leads her to a vantage point to admire the scenery. This gesture can be seen as quite romantic, as holding hands and sharing a beautiful view together often imply a deeper connection. Even though Wanderer can be distant, this moment reveals a more intimate and gentle side to him, showing he wants to share something special with Lumine.
- Although the Wanderer, as a puppet, doesn’t need to eat, he still asks Lumine to cook for him, showcasing his desire to spend time with her in a way that feels natural and human. When she presses him for input, his response is both practical and unexpectedly thoughtful: “Why don’t you make some of your personal favorites?” he suggests, adding, “So even if it gets painfully awkward during our meal, we can still at least enjoy the food.” His words reflect a subtle vulnerability, hinting at his awkwardness in navigating relationships, while also showing that he values her company enough to make the effort, even in the smallest ways.
- The Wanderer's voicelines when joining the Traveler's party are: "Uh... What do you want from me?", "This had better be important," and "Are you sure it has to be me? ...Fine, let's get this over with." These lines make him sound reluctant or annoyed about joining the adventure. However, during his entrance animation, when you zoom in on his expression, he is smiling. This suggests that, deep down, he's secretly happy to be chosen by the Traveler for the adventure.
- In the English version, Scaramouche says: “Per my agreement with Lesser Lord Kusanali, I’ll be at the front. It’s my job to lead the way and get rid of any obstacles in our path. All you have to do is keep your pretty eyes open and try not to fall behind.” In contrast, the Russian version translates this differently. Scaramouche states: ["Согласно уговору с малой властительницей Кусанали, я пойду первым, чтобы прокладывать путь и устранять опасности. Всё, что вам нужно делать, это держать ваши прелестные глазки открытыми и не отставать."] In this Russian version, the phrase “keep your pretty eyes open” is replaced with "be a good girl," which is a more literal and culturally appropriate translation of the sentiment expressed in the English version. This change alters the tone slightly, making it sound more like a command rather than a playful compliment.
- Wanderer's voice lines in both the "Good Morning" and "Good Night" interactions with Lumine suggest a deeper level of intimacy and proximity, implying that they have spent the night together.
- Good Morning Voice Line:
- Wanderer's "Good Morning" line stands out because, unlike other characters who begin with a casual "Good Morning," Wanderer instead says, "Wake up," emphasizing a more direct and familiar tone. In the Chinese version, Wanderer’s phrase, 「快醒醒——太阳要晒屁股咯——」 ("Wake up~ The sun's gonna shine on your butt~"), adds a playful and cheeky element, using a common idiom to encourage someone to get up. The English version, "Rise and shine, sleepyhead, the sun's already in your eyes! ...Haha, don't tell me you actually thought I'd wake you up like that?" softens this tone but still conveys a teasing, somewhat intimate wake-up call.
- Good Night Voice Line:
- Wanderer's "Good Night" voice line further suggests a close connection. Instead of the typical "Good Night," Wanderer says, "Can't fall asleep when I'm next to you? Hehe," implying that Lumine’s restlessness is due to his presence. While this could be interpreted as playful banter, the translations in other languages give a more direct sense of intimacy. In Japanese, the line is: "Can't you sleep when I'm next to you? Hehe" (僕がそばにいると眠れないかい?ふふっ), and the Chinese version reads: "Can't you sleep next to me? Hehe" (在我身边睡不着吗?呵呵), both of which convey a stronger suggestion of physical proximity between them.
- These lines highlight the unique nature of Wanderer's interactions and relationship with Lumine, which different from the more formal or neutral interactions seen with other characters, underscoring the closeness they share.
- Good Morning Voice Line:
- In the Chinese and Korean versions of Wanderer's «Feelings About Ascension: Conclusion"», he tells Lumine something along the lines of: “Although I can be your ally, viewing me as your companion is a dangerous thing to do. I hope you understand what you're dealing with. If you're not afraid, then stand behind me.” In this line, Wanderer is warning Lumine about the risks of relying on him too much, yet in the end, he says, “If you're not scared, then stand behind me,” which implies that despite his warning, he is willing to protect her from any danger if she chooses to trust him. The English voiceline of the Wanderer «Feelings About Ascension: Conclusion», The Wanderer offers his assistance, acknowledging that Lumine, viewing him as an ally is risky. Despite the dangers, he accepts the challenge, suggesting that if Lumine insists on continuing, he said; "Let me lead the way" or in the other words; "If you trust me, put your life in my hands".
- Lumine refers to most characters as her "friends." However, she refers to Wanderer as her "companion" in the original Chinese translation, rather than just an "ally" and a "friend" in the English and Japanese translation, implying a closer and more personal connection.
- In one of his Serenitea Pot lines in the Japanese version, Wanderer (Scaramouche) says: 「僕のことを理解してるからって、べつにすごくもなんともない。今の僕は、聞かれたらなんだって答えてしまうからね」, which can be translated as: “Just because you understand me, it doesn’t make it anything special. The way I am now, I’d answer anything if you asked.” This line reflects Wanderer's guarded nature, yet hints at his current vulnerability or openness. He downplays the importance of Lumine understanding him, as if it's not a big deal, but acknowledges that he's in a state where he might reveal more about himself to her than usual if prompted.
- In their Serenitea Pot interactions, Wanderer mentions that it's good Lumine has a mean streak — "Anyway, it's probably a good thing that you have a mean streak", which means that he actually likes it when she's a bit tough or sharp with him. He seems to appreciate that side of her personality, possibly because it aligns with his own nature or because he respects someone who isn't overly soft or gentle in dealing with him. While in the Japanese version he says, "if you were too kind and good of a person, I wouldn't know what to do."
- In his Serenitea Pot lines in the English version Wanderer says, "Anyway, I'm not picky, so I'll eat whatever you make." However in Japanese Version the first half is the same the second half is,「君が作ったものなら、食べてやる」which translates to; "if it's something that you made, I'll eat it.
- In his Serenitea Pot lines in the English version Wanderer says, "It's not so much that I have nothing to say... I just have nothing fun or positive to share." However, in Japanese Version he says, "It's not as if I don't have anything to say, but whatever I talk about... will probably ruin the atmosphere."
- In the Serenitea Pot dialogue, when Lumine asks Wanderer, "Anything you want to do?", his response varies across the English, Japanese, and Chinese versions but consistently carries a teasing undertone. In the English version, Wanderer jokes about testing her boundaries, saying he needs to think about how far he could persuade her to bend her limits. He clarifies that he was kidding, assuring her he doesn’t make her suffering for his amusement, though he admits her reactions are amusing. In the Japanese version, his response is more suggestive, asking if her question implies she’s ready to satisfy his needs. He adds that her expressions when she dislikes something are very attractive, using a term that can also mean alluring or even sexually arousing. He then jokingly clarifies that intentionally embarrassing her isn’t his thing. The Original Chinese version is similar to the Japanese, as he teases her willingness to satisfy his desires, describing her uncomfortable expressions as intriguing, but denies having a fetish for embarrassing her.
- It is important to note that the Japanese term used to describe her expression carries a slightly NSFW connotation, as it can also imply arousal in certain contexts. While it can be translated as intriguing, alluring, or tempting, the choice of wording adds a humorous layer, as there are less suggestive alternatives the writers could have used.
- This is surprising because Lumine's expression shouldn't have aroused him since he is a puppet.
- However they later changed the Japanese Version and replace it with, "If that's the case, then I should think about this properly. I should measure how much you can do for my sake."
- This is surprising because Lumine's expression shouldn't have aroused him since he is a puppet.

- In "Summertide Scales and Tales: Page III", Wanderer greets Lumine differently across various language versions.
- In the English version, he says, "Morning, sunshine." Then he comments that she must have been having a nice little dream, even calling it "kind of adorable." However, in the other versions:
- Chinese version (Original): "Morning, sleepyhead. You were having a nice little dream, weren't you? Glad to see you're happy."
- Japanese version: "Good morning, sleepyhead. You must have had a wonderful dream. It seems like you're happy, so I’m happy too."
- Russian version: "Good morning, sunshine. Did you have a good sleep? I won’t lie, it was cute."
- Spanish version: "Good morning, sleeping beauty. You were having a nice dream, weren’t you? Not gonna lie, that was kinda cute."
