Scaramouche x Heart is the cargo ship between Scaramouche and a Heart from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Scaramouche was originally created by the Electro Archon, Raiden Ei, to serve as a vessel capable of holding a Gnosis, a divine “heart.” However, his emotions were too human, too fragile. Upon witnessing his tears in a dreamlike slumber, Ei deemed him unfit, both as a tool and as a person. Rather than destroy him, she let him sleep, quietly abandoning the idea of crafting another vessel. In time, the Gnosis, the very thing he was meant to carry, found a new home at Mt. Yougou.
When Scaramouche eventually awoke, he began wandering across Teyvat. In his journey, he observed countless hearts, those that were kind, noble, strong, and sincere. Deep down, he too longed for a heart. After years of searching, he finally obtained one. But it was not what he expected. The heart he received was no blessing, it was filled with lies, manipulation, and false kindness. It was hollow, cursed, and cruel beneath a beautiful surface.
Though this heart was the reason for his existence, it left him emptier than before. Torn between human emotion and mechanical detachment, he realized that if he removed this false heart, he might feel nothing ever again. His journey with the heart became one of self-discovery, grief, and longing, not for power, but for something real, something genuine.[1]
Character Story 2[]
In the early days of Tatarasuna’s prosperity, the Wanderer walked among its people under the name "Kabukimono." His peaceful life was disrupted by changes brought by the Akame Clan and a Fontaine mechanic named Escher, whose revolutionary forging techniques boosted production but also caused a mysterious corruption within the great furnace. Black gas seeped from the furnace’s core, poisoning the craftspeople and turning their livelihood into a source of death.
As the situation worsened, Niwa, the local authority, imposed an information blackout and sought aid from the Raiden Shogun at Tenshukaku. However, those sent by sea to request help never returned, spreading fear and despair in Tatarasuna. Aware of Niwa’s desperate plea, the Kabukimono braved a storm to reach Tenshukaku, hoping to meet the Shogun herself. Instead, he was denied repeatedly and, in desperation, sought out Yae Miko, showing her a golden feather as a symbol of his plea.
Though Yae Miko hurried to assist, she could only meet the Kabukimono briefly. He left unconvinced and brokenhearted, convinced the Shogunate had abandoned his home. Later, help was sent, but the truth was quieter and darker—Niwa had fled, fearing punishment for his role in the disaster, and the Kabukimono had taken his place to shut down the furnace at great personal cost. Understanding the sorrow weighing on him, Yae Miko chose not to trouble him further, quietly returning his golden feather as a sign of respect and sympathy for "the heaviness in his heart".
Eventually, the Kabukimono vanished from Tatarasuna without a trace. Yet the people remembered his light footsteps and joyous dance during the celebration of Mikoshi Nagamasa’s great blade—a fleeting moment of hope before he, like the feather he carried, drifted away into the unknown.
Character Story 5[]
In his fifth character story, it is revealed that the heart once placed in him had been taken from someone important to him — Niwa. This truth had been hidden, and after discovering it, the Wanderer tried to change the past in Irminsul. He thought that only he, someone who could live through this again, could try to stop the tragedy. He leaped into the flow of information and embraced the pain, the silence, and the burning feeling, just to fulfill one wish. Even if he was broken and discarded, even if he was once the Kabukimono, or Scaramouche, or nothing at all, he still reached for something he believed was a heart.
Vision[]
In his Vision story, it is said that he saw his many past selves, all of them with pain, fear, and regret, but he accepted them all. He realized that the real him still lived on deep inside and chose to walk his own path. He knew that the world he once saw as beautiful was just an illusion, and that he would still make the same choices even if he had to go through it all again. The gods gave him a Vision because of his own will and choice, and in that moment, his heart, whether real or not, was finally acknowledged:
- “Can you, who have desires of such intensity, still be considered a being without a heart?”

Character Teaser - "Wanderer- Ashes" - Genshin Impact
In the teaser "Ashes", Scaramouche is seen desperately reaching for the Electro Gnosis as he falls, calling out in pain that he has "lost [his] heart again" and that "it hurts," describing it as if it's “on fire.” This painful yearning for a heart is then reflected in a story told by his friend when he was still the Kabukimono. In that tale, a toy soldier without a heart falls in love with a ballerina doll and wishes to be with her forever. However, because he has no heart, he does not understand the origin of his feelings. When his owner eventually throws him into a fire, the soldier's gaze never leaves the ballerina, and the next day, a tiny heart is found among the ashes. The story's emotional weight leaves a strong impression on the Kabukimono, who speculates that while the heart may have been shaped like one, it couldn’t be real. Yet his friend proposes a hopeful alternative: "But what if... Hearts can actually be born from ashes?" After his friend died from sickness, Kabukimono is shown crying, exclaiming, “What a joke... It’s just ashes—nothing left but ashes,” implying he burned the house in hopes of finding a heart like in the story, only to find nothing.
Inversion of Genesis Interlude Archon Quest: "Kabukimono's Finale"[]
This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it.
The story told by his friend parallels the events of the Archon Quest “The Kabukimono’s Finale” during Inversion of Genesis. When Wanderer (Scaramouche’s new identity) saves the Traveler from an attack by his former god form, the Shouki no Kami, it echoes the soldier’s unwavering gaze on the ballerina as he is thrown into the fire. Just as the soldier never looked away from the ballerina despite the flames, Wanderer keeps his eyes fixed on the Traveler and risks himself to protect them, fully aware of the danger. After this, they are surrounded by fire and ashes—just like in the story—and once the ashes clear, Wanderer receives his Vision. This mirrors the moment when, after the fire where the soldier was thrown, all that remained in the ashes was a heart. Although not officially confirmed, the teaser was released before the Inversion of Genesis quest, suggesting that this was intentional foreshadowing, given the strong parallels with the story his friend once told him.
Quotes[]

Fanon[]
Scaramouche x Heart is a widely recognized cargo ship in the fandom, largely due to the core of his character—being a heartless puppet who longs for a heart. Despite lacking a physical heart, Scaramouche is capable of experiencing intense, human-like emotions. This contrast between his "empty" nature and his deeply emotional experiences resonates with fans, who often see his journey as a metaphor for vulnerability, identity, and the longing for connection.
Many fans are also drawn to the idea that Wanderer views his Anemo Vision as his heart. Notably, his Vision is placed directly where a human heart would be, and in his idle animation, he quietly stares at its gentle glow—until he notices the player watching and quickly looks away, flustered. This small but meaningful detail has become a beloved piece of visual symbolism among fans, emphasizing his relationship with the concept of having a heart, both emotionally and symbolically.
