- —Scaramouche saving Tighnari from heat stroke by offering him water
Scaranari is the slash ship between Scaramouche and Tighnari from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Tighnari and Scaramouche have noticeable differences in their overall characterization, thus triggering the Opposites Attract trope. Scaramouche has a much more rude and unsympathetic behavior compared to Tighnari, who can be seen as menacing due to his strictness, although this is his personal way of caring for the people he lectures. Scaramouche and Tighnari share a sharp tongue and are naturally blunt with their speech. However, Scaramouche's tone is rude and abrasive due to his divine nature and tattered past, whereas Tighnari is sarcastic predictably due to his experiences in the Akedemiya and or obtained it during his role as a Forest Watcher leading various rangers. Scaramouche views humanity cynically whilst Tighnari respects and cares for all life forms, including artificial ones.
Despite Scaramouche's negative behavior towards many, he expresses affection towards a select few, displaying he is capable of experiencing kindness even if not straightforward and is echoed by a rude comment; this is evidenced by how he decided to assist Tighnari as a supposed apology yet continues to be criticizing in his tone.
This pairing can arguably trigger the "Enemies to Lovers" trope due to the past harm Scaramouche has inflicted on Tighnari during his temporary role as the Balladeer. Additionally, Tighnari worked alongside others to assist in Scaramouche's defeat. This is later transformed into the Friendly Rivalry trope due to the competitiveness in A Parade of Providence and the two battling each other for the diadem; even despite Scaramouche offering his life saving assistance towards Tighnari some time before.
Silent Seeker of Knowledge[]
Tighnari is seen being confronted by sages, for they have arrived at Ghandarva Ville to ask Tighnari to assist in an unnamed project they are conjuring. When he declines, they proceed to push him further until they eventually lose interest and retreat. This project is later to be revealed to be the arrival of the new god, The Balladeer, formally known as Scaramouche.
The Gaze from a Certain God[]
After briefly being possessed by Lesser Lord Kusanali, the Traveler awakens and converses with Tighnari and Paimon after they swiftly escape Dottore. Paimon proceeds to ask Tighnari about the mysterious project with the sages, who have asked Tighnari to assist them with it. Traveler exploits that the plan was the process of creating a new god, said God being Scaramouche who will claim the alias, The Balladeer. The abrupt discovery befuddles Tighnari himself as he explains he would never believe the scholars would do something as arrogant as replace a god.
He takes gratitude in his decision of declining participating in the project. To put into further notice, he did recognize Hypasia's erratic behavior from witnessing Scaramouche, and how it can place her in dire consequences.
Later into further quests Tighnari visibly and verbally expresses his utter disappointment in the Akademiya's "ridiculous" choices.
As by A God's Side[]
After an antagonistic conversation between Scaramouche and the Traveler, a combustion of unexpected lightning bolts scattered rapidly outside the greenhouse. When Traveler and Paimon rushed back outside to check on Tighnari and Dehya, it is revealed that Tighnari, unfortunately, was caught in one of the bolts and was immensely damaged and unable to move as a result. Thus, he decided it was a safer and wiser option to rest near Hypatia to protect her from further harm. However, the array of bolts were never meant to harm anyone, therefore Scaramouche didn't intentionally plan on hitting Tighnari. Tighnari eventually heals some time after the Balladeer is defeated.
A Parade of Providence[]
When Tighnari collapses due to overheating, he explains his current dreadful situation to Paimon and the Traveler when they find him. Scaramouche appears abruptly behind them and offers water despite verbally expressing how unimpressed he is on how physically weak humans are. After handing the water to the Traveler to give Tighnari, he quickly exits the area without another word. Because of this abrupt departure, Tighnari mistakenly thanks Traveler and Paimon for their "consideration". Just as Paimon steps in to correct the misunderstanding, Cyno enters and distracts everyone, wavering all thought about Scaramouche.
After stealing the diadem from Faruzan, Scaramouche glides through the wind. Tighnari attempts to shoot multiple arrows towards him as Scaramouche manages to dodge them. After Kaveh successfully achieves the diadem, Scaramouche doesn't make another appearance nor approaches Tighnari and most characters again. It is suggested that Scaramouche is aware that he had damaged Tighnari in his thunder storm when he identified as the Balladeer; thus he provided him water as an apology albeit being rather distant and complicated in doing so.
Quotes[]
- “... I knew the Akademiya has never thought particularly highly of Lesser Lord Kusenali, but... But I still didn't expect them to do something as arrogant as creating a new god. Looks like I made the right decision by not accepting their invitation.”
- — Tighnari after discovering Scaramouche's future god transicion
- “The Doctor and the Balladeer... We have two Fatui Harbingers in Sumeru... Sounds like we're in for a bad time.”
- — Tighnari acknowledging the Fatui's (Balledeer being Scaramouche) influence in the project
Fanon[]
Scaranari is a unique rarepair within the Genshin Impact fandom. Many fans began to ship the two heavily due to Scaramouche assisting Tighnari in the Genshin event, A Parade of Providence, which allegedly turned the event into a highlight for the pairing. Some may have begun shipping it before the event since Scaramouche accidentally inflicted Tighnari with one of his lightning bolts. Another possible reason could be that Tighnari had the choice in transfiguring Scaramouche into the Balladeer alongside the Akademiya, yet he declined. Moreover, little have stated they began shipping them for having color pallets that mix well together (e.g blue and green).
It came off as a surprise on how similar the two truly are (their sarcastic mannerisms, menacing status, etc), thus triggering the Not So Diifferent trope. Along with this, this can be viewed as the Night and Day Duo trope due to Scaramouche's cold and antagonistic nature clashing with Tighnari's kind and open heart. Overall, the pairing has surprisingly gained a decent number of fans despite being a rarepair with over forty fanfictions on AO3.
