There could be more between us. Could even be love, if nurtured in time…. But only with this you. Your absolute true self. And that is someone you'll never fully be.
—Wanda to Loki in Scarlet Witch #8

ScarletFrost is the non-binary ship between Loki and Wanda Maximoff from the Marvel and Marvel Cinematic Universe fandoms.

Canon[]

Scarlet Witch (2023)[]

Wanda meets with Loki, the ruler of Jotunheim, to help his cousin, Arkin, who wishes to lead the mountain giants but Loki has refused him. Wanda offers to speak on Arkin's behalf "if only to see the look on Loki's face." Upon her arrival to Jotunheim, Wanda casts a truth spell on Loki and makes her case for Arkin.

They argue over their perceived differences and to settle the matter, Loki suggests a duel of honesty. He extends his hand to Wanda, asking, "shall we begin?" and curious to see who can cut deepest with their truths. She obliges.

Hands together, they begin a dance of revelations, going back and forth divulging stories of their pasts. Each new revelation exposes their own surprising similarities. Wanda tells Loki she's never seen him through this lens, with all his pain and vulnerabilities. She calls Loki a "kindred spirit." She begins to move closer to him expressing she feels a true kinship with Loki and perhaps more than just a friend. Almost taunting, she is close to kissing him when she pulls back and proclaims what a tragedy it is that there is potential for love between them but not unless Loki becomes his absolute true self, which she tells him he'll never be. Loki dejected, yields and Wanda wins the battle.[1]

Doctor Strange (2017)[]

When Loki, newly Sorcerer Supreme, meets up with Wanda and others for drinks at the Bar With No Doors, she calls him "little prince" and he addresses her by her first name. He gloats of his great power and she tells him he's a terrible "God of Lies" and that there will be a price for wielding such power.[2]

Later, when Doctor Strange reclaims Sorcerer Supreme and loses a fight to Mephisto, Loki and Wanda team up to rescue and fight alongside him. However, it is all revealed to be an illusion.[3]

Moments[]

What If...The Avengers Assembled in 1602?

  • Loki holds Wanda after her energy is depleted from using magic to hold together a rip in their reality. They embrace when Peggy Carter uses the time stone to set things right.

Quotes[]

“I hear you, Laufeyson. And I see you, if only thanks to our duel. No, I know you. A kindred spirit…I see true kinship. A friend. Perhaps more… but only perhaps. That is the tragedy. Our tragedy...I'll admit – we're more alike than I imagined. You understand things about me few do. There could be more between us, could even be love, if nurtured in time…but only with this you. Your absolute true self. And that is someone you'll never fully be.”

Fanon[]

Loki/Wanda are a rarepair in the Marvel fandom, with a little over 140 works on AO3. Fans who ship them see them as highly compatible as they are very similar characters and extremely powerful magical beings – as Chaos and Mischief.

Although Wanda and Loki have never interacted in the MCU, many fans anticipated a potential teamup. Numerous edits and mashups of the two characters exist, often utilizing footage of Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda) from the film I Saw the Light (2015) featuring both actors as Hank and Audrey Williams. Fan edits and fiction often spotlight elements of shared grief and anti-hero themes along with their magic.
