Scranta is the slash ship between Scrooge McDuck and Santa Claus from the DuckTales fandom.
Canon[]
Santa Claus is first mentioned in "The Impossible Summit of Mt. Neverrest!". Scrooge takes the kids on a mountain climb on Christmas, which Louie is less than enthused about. When he questions why they aren't at home, waiting for Santa, Scrooge says, "That man is not allowed in my home. He knows what he did".
In "Last Christmas!" Scrooge is again shown to dislike Christmas. This is likely a reference to the 1983 classic short "Mickey's Christmas Carol", in which Scrooge plays the role of Ebenezer Scrooge (his namesake). When he spots a decoration of Santa Claus, he demands to know which of his relatives put it up. They all deny it, and watch on with shock as Scrooge uses his cane to beat the decoration. While doing so, he calls it a "traitor". Later in the episode, it is revealed that Scrooge doesn't actually hate Christmas. However, when asked about his feelings on Santa Claus he says "that churlish chimney chaser is not to be trusted".
Santa makes his first real appearance in "How Santa Stole Christmas!". Scrooge once again shows his dislike for Santa, and on Christmas Eve he ropes his entire family into helping him set Santa traps. Della tries to tell the boys about Scrooge's reasons for disliking Santa, but realizes that she doesn't actually know what they are.
Fanon[]
Scranta is one of the more popular romantic ships for Scrooge, although due to the fact that its only basis is in the DuckTales reboot it often loses in popularity to other ships like Scroldie and Dimeship. Still, it has many supporters thanks to the relationship shown between the characters in the third season Christmas episode. Scrooge's dislike for Santa was a reoccurring joke prior to his appearance on the show, and many fans saw their backstory as good pay off.
Many who watched the show interrelated the dissolution of Scrooge and Santa's business partnership as being akin to a romantic break-up. Scrooge's dislike for Santa, then, was seen as him acting as a bitter ex-boyfriend. Some fans choose to ship Scranta for the sheer sake of the meme, of saying that they ship an anthropomorphized duck with Santa Claus. Others, however, genuinely see chemistry between the two and believe that their relationship should be read as romantic in canon.
There are currently only 8 works for this ship on AO3. It is more popular on Tumblr.
