Canon[]

DuckTales (1987)[]

In the original series, Scrooge eventually becomes an honorary great uncle to Webby, including her in his relationship with his great-nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Webby is also immensely fond of him, calling him “Uncle Scrooge” in imitation of his nephews.

DuckTales (2017)[]

Season One[]

In the reboot series, Scrooge and Webby’s relationship is rather more complex. Having been found in a F.O.W.L. laboratory as an infant by Bentina Beakley, Webby was brought to Scrooge’s mansion for safekeeping. An old friend of Beakley’s, Scrooge welcomed the pair without question. However, perhaps because of strained relations with his own family-or those of them not missing-he had little or nothing to do with Webby, even as she spent her childhood living in his home.

Webby, as she grew older, was fascinated with Scrooge and his many adventures, despite barely interacting with the man. To her, he was “Mr. McDuck”, an unapproachable figure of awe. This would only start to change after her first adventure with Scrooge’s nephews in "Woo-oo!", in which they saved him and his Money Bin from the dragon Pixiu…whom they had played a part in unleashing. Though initially furious, Scrooge was also impressed, particularly by Webby’s cleverness in suggesting the use of a Medusa Gauntlet against the beast. He thus decided to take Webby and her three new friends under his wing.

On one occasion, Scrooge observed Webby and the nephews playing with toy dart guns around the mansion in "Daytrip of Doom!" Webby got rather intense in her participation, but Scrooge found her antics amusing. Subsequently, Scrooge took Webby on a few jaunts along with him and the nephews. However, for the most part they didn’t directly interact with each other.

This would change in "From the Confidential Casefiles of Agent 22!" Scrooge, coming downstairs one day, was greeted by Webby. When he informed her that Beakley, whom Webby had been raised to believe was her grandmother, hadn’t brought him his morning tea, Webby surprised him by preparing it to Scrooge’s exacting specifications without him even having to state them. However, Scrooge soon found himself unnerved by Webby’s cleverness, and he tried to escape her company. The two soon learned that Beakley had been abducted by the villainess Black Heron, and Webby insisted on accompanying Scrooge to rescue her grandmother despite his initial protests.

Unfortunately, Scrooge's growing affection for Webby would prove to have its limits, as seen in "The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!" When Scrooge told the nephews what had happened to their mother Della, Webby was somewhat divided. She tried to calm a furious Dewey, though she pointed out that Scrooge's building the Spear of Selene rocket for Della hadn't been the wisest course. Cuttingly, Scrooge replied to her "This is a family matter! You are not family!" Webby was clearly hurt by this, and she would join the nephews-and everyone else-in leaving Scrooge to himself afterwards.

Season Two[]

In "The Most Dangerous Game...Night!", Scrooge would note that he attempted to put a stop to Webby's constant singing in company with Dewey, but he had found it impossible. Webby would soon be the one perturbed, however, to see that Scrooge and Donald seemed to make a better team during the titular event than Dewey and herself. She would point out the strength of Scrooge and Donald's ability to work together, an idea which Scrooge protested. However, he then explained both why he and Donald and Dewey and Webby worked so well together: they weren't friends, but family.

In "The Ballad of Duke Baloney!", Webby would approach Scrooge for help in investigating the strange behavior of Scrooge's nemesis Flintheart Glomgold, who was afflicted with amnesia. She would later observe a conversation between the two, and she claimed to be able to read their lips. However, her "reading" was suspiciously self-complimentary, perhaps wishing that Scrooge would speak so highly of her. Webby would be astonished, however, when Scrooge determined that it would be better for Glomgold to remain ignorant of his former identity, as he felt that his foe was happier in his new life than Scrooge had ever seen him.

In "A Nightmare on Killmotor Hill!", when Webby and her friends enter the world of her dreams, she ecstatically gains a cane, glasses, and top hat similar to Scrooge's.

In "Timephoon!", Webby theorized that Bubba the Caveduck may have washed ashore at Duckburg after being frozen in an iceberg. Scrooge rejected this idea as ridiculous, only for Webby to retort that this very thing had happened to Scrooge twice. In "Moonvasion!", after fleeing the titular alien assault, Webby joins the nephews, Della, Donald, Fethry Duck, and Gladstone Gander in returning to Duckburg to rejoin Scrooge. Upon seeing them, Scrooge greets the group with a wry smile, and Webby joins Scrooge's known relatives in replying "Hi, Uncle Scrooge!"

Season Three[]

In "The Rumble for Ragnarok!", Webby is among those whom Scrooge considers as a potential candidate to succeed him as Champion of the Earth in the recurring contest to prevent Jörmungandr from destroying the world. After Scrooge is injured during first round, Webby helps him to a place where he can rest. Arranging for a tag team to take over the remaining wrestling matches for him, Scrooge selects Webby to be part of the team. He also tasks her with being the only actual combatant, and not allowing an overconfident Dewey to get himself hurt.

Scrooge praises Webby's performance in the ring, but he warns her against falling for Fenrir's cute dog act. Afterwards, Scrooge tasks Webby with stalling for time while he talks to a crestfallen Dewey. In "The Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades!", Webby accompanies Scrooge and Goldie O'Gilt as they search for the titular relic. During the adventure, in which Scrooge and Goldie are magically de-aged and begin acting accordingly, various mishaps cause Webby to behave increasingly like the grumpy older Scrooge.

In "New Gods on the Block!", a failed mission causes Scrooge to begin assembling another team, making Webby and the nephews feel like they've let him down. Once this fact is pointed out to him, however, Scrooge quickly asserts that the kids are the best family and team he could ask for. In "How Santa Stole Christmas!", Webby would accompany Scrooge as he and his old friend Santa set out to save the holiday together. She would be forced to confront Scrooge over his attempt to replace all the presents with coal, and she helped him and Santa to reconcile.

In "The Last Adventure!", Webby's birthday party was held at Funso's Fun Zone at Scrooge's expense. Webby would question Scrooge about how many coupons he must have saved up, making Scrooge a bit awkward until Beakley revealed that Scrooge had actually paid full price for the party. Deeply touched, Webby gave him a hug, despite the fact that the party was also being used as cover for the family's attack on F.O.W.L.'s headquarters hidden beneath the establishment. Much to their astonishment, the group would find a pair of girl ducks cloned from Webby named May and June.

Webby eventually learned that she was also a F.O.W.L. creation made to help them defeat Scrooge at long last. She was meant to do this by retrieving the Papyrus of Binding, a magical artifact that Scrooge himself had hidden. This development puzzled Webby and the nephews, as the papyrus had been hidden so that only Scrooge's rightful heir could find it. From Professor Von Drake, a longtime captive of F.O.W.L., the group learned the truth: Webby was Scrooge's daughter.

In the final confrontation with F.O.W.L.'s leader, Bradford Buzzard, Webby would defend Scrooge from his attack and demand that the villain "Get away from [her] dad!" Scrooge was shocked by this, but it was only after Bradford had been defeated that he was able to question Webby about it. Webby promptly affirmed the term of affection, and Scrooge promptly embraced her in recognition of the family bond that had only lacked a name to make it complete. As the family and their allies made their way home to Duckburg, Scrooge's paternal side began asserting itself as he insisted on Webby donning a life preserver, despite the fact that they were in a plane.

However, Webby and the nephews soon assured Scrooge that they didn't need such precautions, much to the pride of Scrooge. When they were all sucked out of the plane by an accident, Scrooge would join hands with his daughter and great-nephews as they descended through the sky.

Moments[]

The Last Adventure![]

  • Upon being informed that she is Scrooge's daughter, Webby utters one of Scrooge's trademark exclamations: "Bless me bagpipes!"
  • When Bradford attacks Scrooge, Webby takes up the fragments of Scrooge's cane to block his strike before telling Bradford "Get away from my dad!"

Fanon[]

Scrooge and Webby's relationship is a somewhat controversial one. The obvious affection between the two is generally approved of, with Scrooge's bond with Webby helping to soften his character in both the 1987 and 2017 DuckTales series. However, the revelation that Webby is Scrooge's daughter, genetically speaking, in the 2017 series isn't without its critics. A number of fans felt that it cheapened the notion of "chosen family" emphasized throughout much of the series by making Webby an actual blood relative of Scrooge.
