Ducktales (2017)[]

The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains![]

Scrooge is enjoying the free food at Glomgold's museum wing opening, when he spots a blond haired woman in a gold dress. The triplets ask if it's something villainous, and Scrooge says that it's worse. It's his ex. Huey asks if he's talking about his ex-girlfriend, and Scrooge says she's ex everything from rivals to business partners. She see's him and heads over, as Scrooge tells the boys to watch their wallets. Goldie tells Scrooge that she wouldn't steal from children, and then lists all of exceptions. Scrooge though he heard cloven hooves from Goldie, and Goldie says that it was probably just his brittle bones settling. Flinheart then comes over and says that Goldie is his date, although Goldie denies this. A song starts to play, and Goldie hold out her hand to Scrooge. He takes it and the two make their way to the dance floor.

Goldie says that it's been a long time, and Scrooge says that it still hasn't been soon enough. Goldie says his tango is as rusty as his joints, and he quickly twirls and dips her. She says it wasn't bad, but the lady should lead. They continue to dance, as Goldie steals wallets, and Scrooge quickly returns them. He says that she looks younger since the last time he saw her, and Goldie says that she found a fountain of youth. She asks about him, and he says he got stuck in a demon dimension. Demogorgona where he had to stop a rebellion, which Goldie had started. She grabbed a necklace that made her impervious to burns and must have just missed him.

Scrooge asks what Goldie is up to, and Goldie asks why she always has to be up to something. Scrooge points out all the fires she's left behind her and she says that you can't start a fire without a spark. They're about to kiss, when Glomgold interrupts to unveil his latest addition to the museum. The monster of the Klondike. Scrooge recognizes it, as Goldie kills the lights and steals its head.

Scrooge says they have to make it back to the mansion before Goldie and the boys make fun of Scrooge some more. Scrooge explains that in the past, he and Goldie were originally searching for the Golden Lagoon in the Klondike when she stole the map. It was ripped in two, and one half was stuck in the teeth of a wooly mammoth, while the other half was with Scrooge. They escaped but got frozen in the ice together for five years. They arrive back at the mansion, and the mammoth skull is in the front yard, a sign that she is there. Scrooge thinks that Goldie attended the gala because she wanted steal the the map.

Arriving at McDuck Manor, Scrooge enters his room. He finds that Goldie already arrived earlier. She even manage to tie up Ms. Beakley and Webby into a wardrobe. Goldie realizes that Scrooge’s top hat she’s wearing is where he hid the other half of the map. They both fight over the hat and Goldie manage to take the map, but Scrooge quickly takes it and puts it back in his hat. Goldie offers Scrooge to team up to find the Golden Lagoon again knowing they now have both halves of the map, he reluctantly agrees.

Happy Birthday, Doofus Drake![]

Scrooge feels that there is something off in the mansion and searches the whole place but can't find anything. He returns to his office, only to find Goldie there. He asks what she's doing there, and Louie comes in and says that she's with him. Scrooge demands to know why and Louie says that he wants to learn how to make money the easy way from her. Goldie looks around the house, and Scrooge blocks her from possibly taking anything in her path. He tells Louie not to let her get to close, and Louie says he can handle this.

Louie is upset on the stairs and Scrooge at first assumes it's a con, before Louie just says that it was Goldie. Scrooge understands and would say he'll get used to it, but it'd be a lie. Louie thought they formed a connection, but Scrooge says that when you spend so much time looking for an angle, it's hard to see what's right in front of you, which doesn't make her too smart. Louie asked why she saved him then and Scrooge suggests that she might have let Louie get too close too.

Back to the Klondike (Carl Barks)[]

When Scrooge starts to have lapses in his memory, Donald takes him to a doctor he prescribes him memory pills. However, the pills causes Scrooge to remember things he'd forgotten that occurred fifty years ago -- back when he was a young man in the Klondike. He buried a large sum of gold there, and wants to return to dig it up. He also speaks wistfully to his nephews about "Glittering Goldie", a woman he knew back then. Huey, Dewey, and Louie ask if she was Scrooge's "girl", but he waves it off. Donald asks why, then, does Scrooge get such a dreamy look in his eye when talking about her? Scrooge explains that Goldie owes him a thousand dollars which, with interest is over a billion dollars. Donald sighs, remarking that he almost thought Scrooge was human.

The family arrives in Dawson, and they visit an old saloon. Scrooge starts telling them about seeing Goldie singing there, fifty years ago. He'd arrived with a large nugget of gold he'd found, and Goldie immediately pulled him to her side. She asked him about where he'd found the gold, as she poured him some coffee. Scrooge awoke hours later in a snowbank outside of town, missing the golden nugget. He also discovered that the rest of his buried gold had been stolen as well. Scrooge stormed back into the saloon, demanding the nugget back from Goldie. She threw it at his head. He then made her sign the contract for the other gold -- a thousand dollars, plus interest. However, Scrooge wasn't through. He grabbed Goldie and took her back to his dig site, forcing her to work as payment for ripping him off. After a month, he paid her the wages she was owed. Goldie took the money, and threw it back in Scrooge's face. That was the last time Scrooge ever saw Goldie.

The next day, the boys set out to find Scrooge's gold. They arrive in the area at night time, and begin searching. However, they come across a bear instead. They try to run from it, but soon the bear is called off by his owner. Through the darkness, Scrooge sees a little old lady leading the bear. The family tries to come up with plans to scare off the bear and the old lady, but nothing works. The triplets offer to break into the lady's cottage, and when they do they discover that its Glittering Goldie herself. Dewey promises Goldie that they won't tell Scrooge she's here, but Louie has already taken off and spilled the beans.

Scrooge and Goldie reunite after fifty years.
Scrooge and Goldie reunite after fifty years.

Scrooge arrives at Goldie's front door, and begins sweating nervously upon seeing her. She calls him handsome, and he calls her pretty. However, the mood shifts as Scrooge quickly reminds her of the billion dollars she owes him. Goldie hands over all of her money, which isn't enough to fulfill Scrooge's contract. She explains that she used the rest of her gold to help children orphaned by mining accidents. After giving everything she owns to Scrooge, she declares that she's heading to the poorhouse. Scrooge chases after her, offering a deal: if she can dig more gold then he can in ten minutes, then he'll tear up the contract and give everything back to her. Goldie agrees, as she has nothing left to lose.

Scrooge tells the boys to take Goldie up on top of a hill to start digging. They react poorly, telling Scrooge that he knows there isn't any gold up there. Scrooge indignantly asks if they want Goldie to win this bet. The boys lead her there anyways and, after only a bit of digging, Goldie strikes a huge load of gold. Scrooge cries out, realizing this is where he hid his gold all those years ago. He'd hadn't taken one of his memory pills that morning, and so he'd forgotten. Goldie wins the bet, and everything is returned to her. As the boys leave Goldie's place, Scrooge continues to moan about his forgetfulness. However, Donald holds out the box of pills, revealing that the night before there had been six left. Now, there are only five. Scrooge intentionally threw the competition for Goldie. Huey, Dewey, and Louie look on fondly at Scrooge and remark, "Good old Unca Scrooge!".

Fanon[]

Scroldie is a fairly popular ship in the DuckTales fandom. It is well liked by fans, given the interesting dynamic between the two. Unlike most canon relationships in DuckTales, the two did know each other before the start of the show, so it's fun for fanfic writers and fan artists to explore their dynamic from before the show. Many also enjoy exploring Goldie's relationship with Scrooge's family, as it is an unexplored dynamic in the series, aside from her apprenticing Louie for a short while.

On AO3, Scroldie is the most written ship for both Goldie and Scrooge. It is also the fourth most written ship in the DuckTales (Cartoon 1987) tag and the seventh most written in the DuckTales (Cartoon 2017) tag. It is the most popular het ship in the Ducktales (Cartoon 2017) tag. On AO3, Scroldie currently has over 300 works.
