Leon unbinding Luis’ hands.
In 2004, during Leon’s rescue mission of the President of the United States’ daughter, Ashley Graham, in Spain, Leon hears loud banging coming from a closet. He carefully opens the door and a tied up and gagged Luis falls out. Leon rips the duct tape covering his mouth off and Luis comments, “Little rough, don’t you think?” As Leon flips him over to unbind his hands, Luis questions, referring to the raging villagers, “You’re… not like them?” Leon answers, “No. You?” Luis rolls over to sit up and then asks Leon a “very important question,” does Leon “got a smoke?” Leon informs him that he’s got gum. Moments later, the “big cheese,” as referred to by Luis, enters the room they’re in. Hearing this, Leon attacks, attempting to land a powerful kick, but the large stranger blocks Leon and sends him back, landing on Luis, knocking them both out.
Hours later, Leon and Luis wake up back-to-back, hands tied together. Leon asks Luis what’s going on and Luis calls him “Americano,” asking him instead what brings someone like Leon to “this part of the word.” Leon puts pressure on their binds, causing Luis slight pain. Realizing formalities haven’t been done, Luis asks Leon who he is and Leon gives his name, before sliding a photo of Ashley into Luis’ view, asking if he has seen her. Luis already knows who she is and where she is as he’s overheard some villagers talking about her. Leon then asks who Luis is and he too gives his name. Luis tells Leon he was once an officer and Leon tells him he was also once an officer for one day, to which Luis comments, “And I thought I was bad.” Moments later, a villager comes in wielding an ax, ready to execute them. Leon and Luis back away as best as they can still being tied up. As the ax comes down, they pull away enough for the chain to be cut. The villager goes for Leon, and in that time, Luis makes his own escape.

Leon and Luis defending the cabin.
The next time Leon and Luis meet is when Leon has Ashley in toe. Seeing has they’re sandwiched in, they run for a cabin where Luis throws Leon a pipe to lock the font door. As the cabin is swarmed by villagers, Leon and Luis work together to take them out. After the battle, the remaining villagers outside the cabin leave without warning. As Leon is thinking out loud about a next plan, Luis leaves again saying he “forgot something.” Leon is shocked and exclaims Luis’ name as he walks out the door.
Leon and Luis meet again inside the castle overlooking the village when Luis runs up to him and Ashley. He tells Leon he has something for them, before realizing he must have dropped it while running away. He informs them he knows they’re “carriers.” Ashley volunteers to go back with him to get what he dropped, but Luis waves her off. Leon asks, “Why are you- ?” Before he can finish, Luis is already walking away saying, ”It makes me feel better. Let’s just leave it at that.”

Leon hunching over Luis’ body.
As Leon escapes from cultists, after getting separated from Ashley, he run into another room where Luis emerges, happily exclaiming he “got it!” Seconds later, Luis is impaled through the chest by Lord Saddler. He leaves with the sample that would have been used to help Leon or Ashley. As Saddler leaves, Leon rushes for Luis, clutching his wound, telling him, “Stay with me, Luis!” With Luis’ final breaths, he tells Leon he was a researcher and that Saddler found him out. Leon tells him not to talk and attempts to help but Luis swats his hand away. He gives Leon some pills that’ll help to suppress the growth of the Plaga within his body. Luis dies moments later and Leon yells, “Luis! LUIS!!!” Leon stays over Luis’ body for a minute longer before finally standing up, gripping the pill bottle. As Leon leaves, he comments to himself, “They’ll pay for your death. I promise.”
Resident Evil 4 (2023)[]

Leon and Luis meeting.
In 2004, following the abduction of U.S. President Graham’s daughter, Ashley Graham, Leon is sent to Valdelobos, a remote mountainous village located in Spain after the Secret Service intercepts reliable intel about that abduction, which suggested that the First Daughter was last sighted in the region. As Leon is searching the village, he comes across a man, bound and mouthed taped over. Leon rips off the tape and the man is immediately asking Leon if he has a cigarette. When Leon denies him one, the man asks if he could be untied then. As Leon is about to release him, the man shouts “not this guy” as the chief of the village, Bitores Méndez, comes up from behind Leon and throws him to the side, knocking Leon out. The man watches helplessly as Leon is injected by Méndez with the Las Plagas.
Sometime later, Leon wakes up chained to the man. As he moves, the man tells him to stop. Leon continues and the man asks Leon of his name, which Leon gives. The man then introduces himself as Luis Serra. Leon begins to pull on the rusty pulley they’re both attached to by a chain. Luis sees “Leon’s thinking,” and begins to pull on his end as well until the pulley breaks. An infected villager comes into the room and aims to kill Luis just as Leon pulls the chain, dragging Luis away from the blow. Together they kill the attacker with the chain and Luis grabs the key from the villager’s pocket, freeing himself. Leon turns around and tells him they’re not done as Luis throws the key in Leon’s direction, though leaves, leaving Leon alone. After Leon frees himself, he radios his agency’s support operative, Ingrid Hunnigan, and asks her to run a background check on Luis.

Leon and Luis becoming allies.
Hunnigan gets back to Leon, revealing that Luis used to be a researcher for Umbrella. Hearing this, Leon declares he should have left Luis “in that bag to rot”. It isn’t until later into the night that Leon and Luis meet again when Leon and the recently rescued Ashley are running from villagers. Luis spots them and calls them over to the building he’s taking refuge in. Once inside, Leon storms up to Luis and pushes him up against a wall as Luis attempts to explain himself. Leon begins to question who he is, however with the threat of the villagers approaching, he and Luis become allies for their and Ashley’s survival.
The battle seems never ending, until Ashley yells for Leon to hurry and to follow her. As she runs away, Luis follows, with Leon behind him. Together all three cross a draw bridge and are able to catch their breath. Ashley coughs up blood, and that’s when Luis begins to explain. He informs Leon that they’re infected with the Las Plagas parasite, however “lucky” for them, they’re still in the early stages. Luis opens his shirt, revealing a long scar across his chest, with Leon learning he was once infected himself. Leon will need the right surgical equipment when Luis proclaims he has a plan, though Leon will need to trust him. Leon and Ashley exchange a look and Leon nods. Luis is delighted that he and Leon are officially partners. As Luis begins to walk way, Leon questions why he’s helping them, with Luis responding “it makes him feel better”.
Leon and Ashley enter a castle, Salazar’s Castle, where Luis makes contact with Leon via radio. He tells Leon to meet him in the courtyard to offer them some suppressants that can help slow down the progression of Las Plagas. Sometime later, Luis contacts again Leon, who is puzzled by Luis’ absence, to tell him that he needs help and that he’s in the ballroom just beyond the courtyard, calling Leon “Prince Charming,” and to not be “late to the dance”.

Leon feeling better having taken the Las Plagas suppressant Luis had given him.
Eventually, Leon reaches the mines beneath the castle. As he exits an elevator, he sees Luis standing by with the suppressants, having witnessed Leon’s symptoms worsen. He jokes that he’ll make them “cheap”. Leon injects the suppressants and begins to feel better. However Luis informs him that the feeling will wear off soon, asking him if he’s “ready to go,” presumably to go get the surgery to remove the parasite. Leon declines and claims how Ashley is the priority as he had gotten separated from her earlier in the night. They partner up and Leon again questions why Luis is helping him, letting Luis know he knows that he used to work for Umbrella. Luis is mildly disheartened that Leon knows of his past. He tells Leon he wants to feel good about himself and make amends.
Advancing through the mines, Leon and Luis find a pathway to the blast furnace where Leon gets grabbed by an El Gigante. Luis tries to pull him back, but the giant’s force drags them both in. Luis shoots at the creature, saving Leon from its grasps. With Leon on the ground, he then warns Luis of another El Gigante’s incoming attack, saving him from being crushed. Using the environment to their advantage, they manage to slay the creatures.
With no other way forward, Leon and Luis ride minecarts throughout the mines where they are pursued by various ganados. At the end of the track, they are forced to jump for their safety. Luis is left hanging, asking Leon for help to pull him up. They’re soon attacked by bug-like creatures, Novistadors, as they work their way to the lift out of the mines. Making it to the lift, the pair boards where Leon pushes Luis again to tell him why he’s helping him. Luis confesses he used to work for Los Iluminados and helping Leon (and Ashley) is part of him making amends. Arriving closer to the surface, they exit the lift when Luis is suddenly knifed in the back by Leon’s former Major, Jack Krauser, who he has since thought died years prior.

Leon lighting Luis’ cigarette.
Luis falls to the ground and Leon and Krauser engage in a knife battle. Leon is losing the fight when Luis manages to shoot Krauser’s knife away, saving him. Krauser leaves the area and Leon rushes to Luis’ side, slumped against some crates. Blood runs down Luis’ mouth as he tells Leon to take the key to his laboratory where he and Ashley can get the operation to remove the parasite from their bodies. He soon struggles to light his lighter for his cigarette. The lighter falls out of his weakening grip and Leon lights it for him. He confesses he’s lead a terrible life, asking Leon if people can change. He dies before Leon has the chance to answer. Leon places Luis’ lighter in his hands, folding his fingers over it. As Leon gets up, he calls Luis a “fine knight” and vows Krauser won’t get away with his murder.
