Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama is the main character from the Mob Psycho 100 fandom.

Character[]

Shigeo Kageyama is an average middle school-aged boy. Although he looks like an inconspicuous person, he is in fact a powerful esper with immense psychic power. To keep from losing control of this power, he constantly lives a life under an emotional shackle. In order to help learn how to control his abilities, Mob works as an assistant to con-man Arataka Reigen, a self-proclaimed spirit medium. Mob wants to live a normal life just like those around him, but a barrage of trouble keeps coming after him. With his suppressed emotions growing inside Mob little by little, his power threatens to break through its limits as he eventually encounters other espers like the Claws.

Takane Tsubomi
Main article: TsuMob

Takane and Shigeo are both childhood friends attending to the same academy. Ever since meeting her, Mob has developed a crush on her despite barely interacting with each other throughout the time. Tsubomi knows that Mob has psychic powers, demonstrated when they were little. It is Mob's desire to impress Tsubomi which prompts him to join the Body Improvement Club, though his athletic abilities are below average. This is because Mob remembers that, as children, Tsubomi seemed more impressed by another boy's athleticism than she was with Mob's psychic powers.

At the end of the series, when Mob learns that Tsubomi is moving away, he decides to finally confess to her. However, because she is the school's idol, many of his classmates have also decided to confess to Tsubomi, and she rejects them en masse. Mob solicits his friends, fellow club members, and even coworkers for advice on the right way to make a confession. The responses vary in helpfulness; however, when Mob is asked what it is that he really likes about Tsubomi, he finds that he does not know the answer — only that, he has always liked her. Reassured that his feelings are genuine, Mob calls Tsubomi, asking her to meet him at the park where they used to play together as children.

After Reigen finally breaks through to Kageyama, Mob and Shigeo come to an agreement to accept both sides of each other. When Shigeo expresses his fear of being rejected by Takane, Mob reassures him that whatever the outcome is, it will be okay. Grasping the remaining sunflower from the bouquet in his hand, Mob goes to the park to finally make his confession. Shortly after, he returns to Reigen and Dimple, telling them that he was rejected and that Tsubomi told him she doesn't see him that way. This causes Mob to cry, though he is comforted by his two companions.

In the epilogue, both are mentioned by Ritsu to keep on touch by phone despite Tsumobi having already moved away, remarking their friendship having not been affected despite the love rejection.

Fanon[]

Arataka Reigen
Main article: ReiMob

Reigen and Mob first met when Shigeo was 10 years old. After an incident with his powers, Mob visited Spirits & Such Consultation in hopes of finding help to regulate his psychic abilities. Reigen, skeptical at first, initially thought that Mob was lying, but decided to hear him out anyway. Mob explained that he had never told anyone about his powers, and that he showed up because he thought Reigen was also an esper. Despite his doubts, Reigen offered Mob genuine advice, telling him that having psychic powers doesn't make him any more special than anyone else, and that what matters is that he's a good person. Mob asked if he could come back the next day, and Reigen expressed disinterest, saying he was busy. However, he then tripped and spilled his tea, which Mob was able to catch and put back into the cup with his powers. Seeing this, Reigen realized that Mob wasn't lying, and that he truly does have psychic powers. Upon hearing from Mob that he can see and exorcise spirits, Reigen hired him, taking on the role of a mentor to him.

Teruki Hanazawa
Main article: Terumob

Before meeting Mob, Teru didn't know any other espers, so he greatly overestimated his own importance and power.

Since his defeat against Shigeo, Teru comes to realize that the world does not revolve around him, but he is still confident in his strong and diverse psychic powers. He seems to adhere to Mob's policy of not using psychic power against people unless absolutely necessary. He is motivated to stop others from succumbing to pride like he once did, but he is still concerned about his outward appearance and still seeks perfection in all his endeavors. He has been known to hold people upside-down and dunk them in a bucket of water until they tell him what he wants to hear. While he is noted to be a good leader, he is shown to has trouble remaining humble, and often still has a confident tone in his voice which still lingers even after his defeat by Mob's hands.

During the World Domination Arc, it is revealed that Teru is very fond of Mob and constantly praises him whenever Mob is the subject of the conversation. Teru was mostly worried about Mob throughout the arc. Teru was losing against a member of the Main 5 and before the enemy could get the final blow onto him Mob and Reigen came recuse him and Teru was happy that Mob finally woke up from his long sleep. After final fight was over Mob said that it was hard for him to stay awake, so Teru used his powers to carry him home and allow him to sleep.

After all, Teruki became a good friend of Mob, and helped him in all he could.
