Shroommates is the non-binary ship between Toad and Toadette from the Super Mario fandom.

Canon

Much like Waluigi was created to be Wario's partner in Mario Tennis, Toadette was created to be Toad's partner in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. She can be unlocked alongside Toad when completing the Special Cup on 100cc.

She was later shown in a team with Toad in the opening of Mario Power Tennis, though this cameo is her only appearance in that game.

In Mario Party 6, she joins Toad as a playable character in the series, their team name is "Shroommates". In Mario Party Advance, she acts as his co-host for the game.

Toadette appears in the Story Mode for Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix, where she runs a hotel which gets twisted when the player and Toad enter. She assumes that they are responsible and berates them. However, she helps them fix the hotel by magic dancing after requesting them to do so. To show her gratitude, she explains how they can proceed in the story, though is somewhat down after they run off without letting her finish her explanation. She still happily waves to them when they leave to the next world.

In Mario Superstar Baseball and Mario Super Sluggers, Toadette and all of the Toads have good chemistry with one another.

In Mario Party 7, Toad and Toadette are each other's default partners. They share a special item: The Triple 'Shroom Orb, which is functionally identical to the Mushroom Orb, albeit lasting for three whole turns.

In the storybook intro of Super Mario Galaxy, Toad and Toadette sit next to each other on the grass watching the shooting stars rain down.

In Mario Party 8, once again Toadette is Toad's default partner, a tradition that would be broken in Mario Party 9, which she doesn't appear in at all.

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Toadette makes her debut in that series and establishes herself as an authority over the other Toads. She uses the Paper Toads the trio collect to make Papercrafts for them.

In Super Mario Run, Toadette initially acts as the referee in the Toad Rally game. She can be unlocked once Toads of all colors are recruited and 1000 coins are paid to build her house. Toad will take her place as the referee should the player choose to play as her in Toad Rally.

In Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, there are multiple escort missions to bring Toadette and Toad to one another.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Toadette was officially promoted as the archivist of the Toad Brigade.

In New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Toadette joins Mario, Luigi and Toad as an official ally on their journey for the first time in a mainline title, replacing Yellow Toad (who was conflated with Blue Toad to one character slot).

In Super Mario Maker 2, Toadette acts as a supervisor to a group of lazy Toads when constructing Peach's new castle. The other Toads refer to her as "Chief" and express concern for her when she goes missing. Just like the prior title, Toadette is a playable option alongside the Blue Toad.

In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Toadette will task Mario to find the rest of the Toad Brigade. Should Mario find all four of them, they will celebrate with Toadette by the campfire.

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Toadette is playable alongside both Blue Toad and Yellow Toad for the first time in the series.

Few people see any reason to contest Shroommates, as it makes for a nice side-ship for Mareach and Luaisy. Though some people have mistaken them for siblings instead of friends, not helped by Prima guides for some games mentioning them as such.

Trivia

• Toadette is sometimes believed to be inspired by Smurfette from The Smurfs. Both are the only major female characters among their kind, the Smurfs and Toads are both small, friendly creatures that are mostly identical safe for a few differences. Smurfs also live in mushrooms while Toads are mushrooms.
