Seliph's Birth and Early Childhood[]

Sigurd and Seliph are father and son, both protagonists of Genealogy of Holy War in different generations. Seliph was born to Deirdre while his army was at Augustria. Sigurd and Deirdre spend some time in family but the peace didn't last long. Sigurd has to fight the king Chagall's army with whose they were at war for awhile, and he left Seliph under Deirdre's care. During the war, Sigurd conquers the Madino Castle, and Deirdre who couldn't fathom staying away from her husband, left Seliph to the care of the young prince Shannan as she goes to join her husband in the location, despite his own advices for her to not do so, therefore she is captured by an evil sorcerer Manfroy on the route. When Sigurd seizes the castle of Sylvale, Shannan comes and informs him that Deirdre has disappeared, Sigurd is immediately worried for his wife and son, but Shannan reassures him that Seliph is still safe in there. Sigurd is forced to fight some pirates to defend the region, but soon after defeating them, his army is surrounded by the Empire's army that accuse Sigurd of being a traitor of the crown as a ploy to strip him of his powers; luckily they are rescued by the Silessian army, so they fled to the kingdom of Silesse.

Sigurd spends a year with Seliph and his comrades at Silesse, but then again the peace is in danger and Sigurd returns to the fight in a civil war. After the end the Silesian civil war, Sigurd decides to return to Grannvale to fight his enemies, to try to avoid a war between Sillesse and the Empire. After conquering Lubeck, Sigurd asks his retainer Oifey and prince Shannan to leave with Seliph to the nearby kingdom of Isaach, where they will be safe. This is the last time that small Seliph will see his father alive. After this, Sigurd manages to kill his enemies but is betrayed and killed by Arvis, the man that stole his wife and the mother of his son, Deirdre.

Sigurd's Legacy[]

Seliph is raised by Edain, who was Sigurd's childhood friend, as well as his father's retainers Shannan and Oifey, hidden in Tirnanog, a small town in Isaach's kingdom. Seventeen years after Sigurd's death, Seliph takes the arms to fight the Empire's oppression.

Seliph is motivated to avenge his father, and wishes that he can live up to his legacy, but he has a low self confidence, even though ironically Seliph ends up achieving greater feats than his parents: He frees Isaach, Manster, Thracia, and Miletos from the Empire occupation. After that, he goes to his father's country, Grannvale. He fights Arvis, his father's murderer, who provokes him by saying that he will die like Sigurd. After avenging his father, he goes next to the water and see his parents' ghosts, and Sigurd tells him to always stay humble. After this, Seliph defeats his evil half-brother Julius, and he successfully ends the death cult of Loptr. After the war, Seliph became emperor and clears his father's name, being also able to marry the woman he loves happily giving continuity to the family, that is implied to result in the hero Marth and millenia later, Chrom and Lucina.

Fire Emblem Heroes[]

In Fire Emblem Heroes, they are both summonable and are finally able to meet in an alternate universe, since the game confirms multiverse and different timelines. Sigurd's normal variant is based on is appearance on Chapter 5 of Genealogy of the Holy War, after he sent Seliph to Isaach under the protection of his retainers. Some of Sigurd's quotes mention Seliph: he says that he is glad that is son is in safety; and that after his fight he will rejoin him. However, in his conversation after reaching the level 40 he mentions his failure to restore his family's name and apologizes to Seliph mentioning that he had to explain to his son that the world is more complex than just evil and good. Sigurd's Legendary variant is based on his ghost appearance to a grown Seliph in Chapter 10, therefore most of his quotes mention Seliph. He expresses that he is proud of his son.

Seliph's normal variant also mentions both of his parents. In his Brave version, Seliph is wearing the same clothes and is the same class (Sword Cavalry) as his father.

Fanon[]

This ship has some popularity among the Fire Emblem fans, due to the fact that Sigurd is the first main character to have a child on screen. But unlike Eliwood, Sigurd never sees his son becoming adult. Many fans of this family ship are happy that in Heroes, they can finally meet. Sigurd and Seliph's relationship is considered to an inspiration for Chrom and Lucina's relationship. Even though the ship would be way more popular if the game were released outside of Japan, Heroes helped to make their relationship known.

Many fanarts show Sigurd with Seliph as a baby. Some other show Sigurd meeting his son from the future. Many other fanworks show Seliph meeting with Sigurd in Heroes. There's popular AUs in which Sigurd survives the battle of Belhalla, and other AUs in which they are rather a normal happy family with Deirdre and even Julius and Julia alive and around.
