Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War[]
Sigurd and Eldigan first met each other when they were students at the military academy of Belhalla. They - as well as Sigurd's future brother-in-law Quan - became close friends and, one night, promised to always support each other. Following their days in the academy, the two went their separate ways: Sigurd returned to the duchy of Chalphy in Grannvale to prepare for when he takes it over while Eldigan returned to Nordion in Agustria and became king.
The two wouldn't meet again until the year Grann 757. In that year, Eldigan received word that an army led by Sigurd had taken control of Evans Castle in Verdane. Fearing that Sigurd maybe trying to declare war with Verdane, Eldigan pays him a visit but finds out he's actually trying to rescue the noblewoman Edain from them. With a clearer idea of what's going on, Eldigan offers to keep watch over Evans with his knights - in case any Agustrian nobles get any ideas - while Sigurd goes to rescue Edain. Sigurd thanks him for that and offers for the two to catch up over some wine afterward, an offer Eldigan takes him up on. Sigurd's army moves out to rescue Edain, during which the Agustrian noble Elliot arrives to try and take Evans, but Eldigan - true to his word - manages to beat him back before falling back.
Following Sigurd's victory against Verdane, Agustria moved to attack them following their new king - Chagall - taking the throne, which included arresting Eldigan when he tried to stop him. Sigurd's army, with assistance from Eldigan's sister Lachesis, manages to quell the assault and capture the southern half of Agustria, only to find out that Eldigan had been released. Meeting face-to-face with Sigurd, Eldigan is furious that his forces controls so much of Agustria while he was incarcerated. Sigurd apologizes to Eldigan about how this looks before saying that Agustria were the aggressors. He also asks for his forces to remain for a year to bring peace back and repair diplomatic ties, after which they will leave with no resistance. Eldigan agrees to this deal, but warns Sigurd not to break it or he will face dire consequences. With the agreement sorted, Sigurd's forces got to work bringing peace to their captured region while Eldigan's kept watch from the nearby fort Sylvale.
After six months, however, King Chagall raised another army and attacked Sigurd's forces again. From Syvale, Eldigan is worried that peace is falling apart again, and worries that he'll be forced to fight Sigurd. His fear comes to pass as Chagall arrives at the fort and guilts him into defending the fort from Sigurd's approaching army. Despite not wanting to fight his friend, Eldigan reluctantly complies since his loyalty to his nation comes first. Sigurd and Eldigan meet each other outside the fort, with Sigurd pleading for Eldigan to not fight, but he refuses and the two proceed to fight - ending with Eldigan either being struck down or finally retreating only to die by Chagall's blade. Sigurd is distraught that Eldigan is dead and begins considering that his efforts were in vain, but is forced to push that down and promptly takes revenge for Eldigan by killing Chagall and ending the war with Agustria.
Fire Emblem Heroes[]
Sigurd and Eldigan are two of the heroes that the player can summon separately via the Breidablik to help Alfonse and his sister Sharena defending their kingdom Askr from the Emblian Empire. Unlike in their original game, Sigurd and Eldigan can develop a bond via support. They can raise their level of support in the following ranks: C, B, A and S if they stand together in gameplay. Each of them have variants besides their base forms: Both have two solo variations and Sigurd has an additional Duo Hero variant.
Sigurd (as a Duo Hero with Deirdre) and Eldigan both received performance-themed variants in the "To Stay Dreaming" focus in September 2020, although Eldigan's was instead obtainable in the Tempest Trial released around that time and they don't interact in the associated paralogue. In addition, both are two of several heroes given Resplendent outfits, depicting them in outfits based upon one of Zenith's kingdoms and realms. Both Sigurd's and Eldigan's normal variants were given Resplendent outfits based on Hel - the realm of the dead in reference to their respective deaths. Resplendent Sigurd is reminded of his and Eldigan's time at the academy when he learns their outfits make a set.

Sigurdigan is a fairly supported ship in the Fire Emblem fandom. The two having an already established friendship makes this ship more popular, with Quan being added by some supporters. It's also often considered the spiritual successor of MarCamus due to Sigurd and Eldigan filling the same character archetypes as Marth and Camus. This ship is rivalled by Sigurd's and Eldigan's relationships with their canonical wives, as well as SigArvis on Sigurd's side.
On AO3, this ship isn't written about a lot compared to others, with only 13 tagged entries currently. It's both Sigurd's and Eldigan's third-most written ship, being behind Sigurdeirdre and SigArvis on Sigurd's side, as well as Eldihnye and Lachdigan on Eldigan's side.
