The Lion King[]

Before Simba was born Scar was next in line to be king, so when Simba's birth moved him down the line, Scar resented Simba for it. Refusing to attend the celebration of Simba being lifted into the circle of life and begrudgingly called his nephew a "little hair ball" when Mufasa and Zazu were present. Simba is unaware of Scar's true feeling towards him, as Scar plays the part of the caring uncle whenever he was around, so Simba would trust him. This also got Simba to think that Scar's sarcastic nature of his words were jokes. Scar never corrected Simba and tolerated his nephew, who couldn't wait to be king. Being reminded of that fact feeds Scar's concealed rage, while he waits for the right opportunity to get rid of Simba.

Through the ties and trust Scar built with the hyenas, knowing the animosity that the Pride Land lions have with them, he planned to have them kill Simba so no one would suspect him. Scar knows that Simba has a habit of finding trouble and wants to prove his bravery, he takes advantage of it. So when Scar asks Simba to not go near the Elephant Graveyard, that is home to the hyenas, he knew Simba would lie and go there behind everyone's backs. Scar also knew that Simba would want to bring Nala along and just in case his plan failed, he tells Simba to keep their conversation a secret between the two of them. This kept Mufasa or anyone else from learning of Scar's role in that day's events, after Zazu got the king to save Simba and Nala from the hyenas just in time. Later after Scar sees Simba alive and well, he goes to see the hyenas at the graveyard and mentions how he had those lion cubs "gift wrapped" for them. Leaving Scar to form a new plan to get rid of Simba, and decides to kill Mufasa as well. To make this plan work he promises to let the hyenas into the Pride Lands, if they aid him in his cue to take the throne for himself.

The next day Scar told Simba that his father has a "surprise" for him and brings him to the spot where he'll revive it at. Thinking nothing was amiss and that there wasn't a reason to question his uncle, Simba took Scar at his word. To ensure Simba does what he is told, Scar reminds him of yesterday's events and that everyone knows about it. He also advices Simba to work on his roar while he waited for Mufasa to arrive with his surprise. Before Scar leaves Simba asks him if he'll like the surprise, and Scar tells him that it is "die for." Unaware that Scar and the hyenas caused the stampede that killed Mufasa, Simba assumed that he caused it when he was practicing his roar. With Simba failing to notice Scar when he saw his father fall to his death and was unaware of Scar's role in his father's death, his shock and grief had him believe Scar when he told Simba that he was responsible for his Mufasa's death. When Simba asked his uncle what he should do, Scar tells him to run away and never return, but after Simba takes off Scar sends the hyenas to finish him off. The Hyena trio, however, failed to catch Simba and lied to Scar about them killing Simba. Believing that the lion cub would die outside the Pride Lands and if Simba ever returns they'll finish the job, before Scar could learn of their failure.

As Scar inform the lionesses of Mufasa and Simbas' death, he pretends to be saddened by his nephew's death for dying so young. Now as soul heir, Scar becomes the new King in Simba's place. While this was happenimg, Simba was found and raised by Timon and Pumbaa who help Simba to put his past behind him. This had Simba be okay with the knowledge of Scar being named King in his place, until Nala came back into his life and informs Simba of the state Scar's rule has placed upon the Pride Lands in. If Simba doesn't return to challenge Scar and reclaim his birth right from him, everyone in the Pride Lands will die of starvation. At first the scars of Simba's past kept him from ever wanting to go back, and was worried that Scar would reveal his crime to everyone if he returned, but after talking to Mufasa's spirit Simba finds the courage to face Scar.

Seeing what has become of his home since Scar took over, has Simba understanding the need to stop his uncle. He goes in search for Scar, while his friends aid him on their ends, allowing Simba to rush right to his mother's side after seeing Scar struck her. At first Scar mistook Simba for Mufasa and that he was seeing his brother's ghost, until he heard Simba correct his mother. Seeing the rage in Simba's eyes had Scar cower until he pointed out his hyena allies, but when that didn't work he brought up the past. Although Simba said that he put that day behind him, Scar still had the upper hand from making Simba think he was to blame for Mufasa's death and made him out to be the villain, after Scar got Simba to confess his crime to the others.

Once Scar had Simba at his mercy and in a similar portion he had Mufasa in all those years ago, he whispers the truth into his ear. Causing Simba to remember that day and now he knows that Scar was the one who killed his father, he found the strength to over power his uncle. Wanting to seek justice for his father's death. Simba then gets Scar to confess his crime of killing Mufasa to the others, leading the start of a battle between the lions and the hyenas. Scar tried to get Simba to back off by pointing the blame onto the hyenas, but Simba refused to believe any of Scar's lies again.

Although Simba appeared to have been close with Scar during his cub years, fans mostly focus on the animosity between them. From when an adult Simba returned to confront Scar and reclaim his birth right. Due to them being the main hero and villain of their Disney film. They were also one of the first few heroes and villains to be related by blood in a Disney film, with Snow White being the Evil Queen's step-daughter and Ursula was only featured as Ariel's evil aunt in the Broadway musical and 2023 live-action remake versions of their film.

Fans of the Lion King franchise have noticed that Scar's memory and impact still haunts Simba. As shown in the second film, Kingdom Hearts II, and a few moments from The Lion Guard series.

Some fans prefer to ship Scar and Simba together in a romantic relationship, mirroring other popular hero-villain Disney pairings such as Jasfar and Malora. On AO3, the romantic pairing between Scar and Simba has 20 works, while the platonic pairing only has 10.
