Simbarabi is the family ship between Simba and Sarabi from The Lion King fandom.

Canon[]

Sarabi is Simba's mother, who loves her son very much.

Sarabi gives birth to Simba shortly before the opening scene of The Lion King and cradles him prior to his presentation to the Pride Lands. Both she and Mufasa look on their son lovingly as Rafiki approaches him and then watch as he is presented. When a somewhat older Simba awakened his parents one morning, Sarabi described him as Mufasa's son as she noted his wakefulness. In spite of this, she watched fondly as her mate and son walked away together.

Later, Simba approached a group of lionesses in search of his friend Nala, hoping to enlist her in an adventure. Sarabi was in the group and noted that Simba was due for a bath. Over his protests, she quickly seized him and began licking him down, smiling with amusement at his indignation. Afterwards, Sarabi would grant Simba and Nala permission for an excursion to the watering hole, though she insisted that Zazu accompany them.

Seeing the close friendship between Simba and Nala, Zazu would comment that "[their] parents"-including Sarabi-"[would] be thrilled", as the two had been betrothed to one another. However, Sarabi would instead be devastated sometime later when Mufasa's brother Scar announced the death of both Mufasa and Simba. Scar, however, had actually killed Mufasa and ordered Simba's death, and was unaware that the latter deed had not been accomplished. It would only later, when a full-grown Simba returned to the Pride Lands, that both Scar and Sarabi learned the truth.

Having just been struck by an angry Scar, Sarabi initially mistook Simba for Mufasa. Upon recognizing her son, Sarabi smiled in wondering disbelief, but only questioned the matter briefly before being nuzzled affectionately by her son. Scar would attempt to avert his removal from the throne, however, by blaming Simba for Mufasa's death, a conviction that he had instilled in his nephew prior to Simba's departure. In horror, Sarabi approached Simba, begging him to deny what he had been accused of.

Fortunately, Scar's lie would soon be exposed, and Sarabi joined the other lionesses in fighting on Simba's behalf against Scar and his hyena allies. After the battle, she and her son would again greet each other affectionately. Sarabi then looked on as her son ascended Pride Rock and assumed his rightful place as king and joined in the roaring of the pride in acknowledgement of their new ruler.

The relationship between Simba and Sarabi in the 2019 remake of The Lion King plays out virtually identically to that of the 1994 film.

Simba and Sarabi's relationship doesn't receive a great deal of attention in the films, being overshadowed by the scenes between Simba and Mufasa. Sarabi is also absent or makes only silent cameos in sequel works due to the passing of her original actress, Madge Sinclair, whereas Mufasa continues to appear as a spirit and thus is more prominent than Sarabi.

There are 7 works featuring their relationship on AO3, 3 of which are rated Explicit.
