Dave and Sky are put on the same team, and almost immediately, Dave gets a crush on Sky. He tries his best to impress her, but Sky just gets confused by it. Sky catches onto Dave's crush for her, but just ignores it. Dave continues to try and get closer to Sky by hanging out with her, and soon Sky admits that Dave is cute and she might be attracted to him. However, she still pushes those feelings away with no intention of entering a relationship. Dave tries to flirt with Sky and messes up, but manages to win her concern when he tells her about his allergies.
Later the two have to complete a dare where they must kiss in order to win a point for their team. Both are little excited due to having feelings for each other but hide it for the challenge. Before they can kiss, Sky burps in Dave's face, which is what happens when she's nervous, like being with a boy. Dave tries to talk to Sky again afterwards, but she runs off burping again, leaving Dave perplexed.
In a conversation between the two, Dave insults rhythmic gymnastics, which is a sport Sky likes, causing her to get angry at him. He switches the direction by asking her if she likes him as he likes her. She confirms that her feelings are mutual, but is interrupted before she can explain that she doesn't want to be in a relationship with him.
Eventually Sky no longer hides her feelings for Dave, but she still isn't into having a relationship. She has a dream of a buffed-up Dave gifting her a ring, and wakes up to him offering her some berries. Dave keeps trying to move in on Sky, believing a kiss will ascertain their relationship. Sky is moved over to the opposing team in order to even out the numbers, which Dave is heartbroken over while Sky upset yet happy.
Despite being on different teams, Sky helps Dave from a snake in a challenge, making him think that he still has a chance with her. However, Sky chooses her new team over Dave. Using Shawn's advice, Dave tries to show off to Sky to show her he's a good competitor, but this makes Sky dislike him more. The two later have an angry conversation ending with Dave throwing his shoe at Sky and claiming he doesn't need her. Deciding he doesn't want to be in the competition anymore, Dave manages to vote himself out. He calls out to Sky before he is launched, only to see she isn't even there, and Sky only arrives after Dave is long gone.
In the final challenge, Dave comes back as Sky's helper, which she is extremely unhappy about. Despite that, she kisses Dave in order to coerce him to be focused on the challenge. After learning that Sky has a boyfriend back home, he gets incredibly angry, forming a grudge and refuses to hear Sky's explanations or apologies.

The ship sailed as a result of the canon mutual attraction between Dave and Sky. For a ship with a huge amount of ship tease in canon, it gets a considerably small number of fan fictions dedicated to them on Archive of Our Own.
It is one of the major base-breaking ships among the Total Drama fandom. Some of Zoke's haters accused the two of being Zoke's expy due to certain similarities in their designs, personalities and both being the relationship to get the most focus. While the ship started off as very popular, with a lot of fans supporting the two, its popularity decreased with next episodes. Some fans abandoned the ship once Dave became obsessed with Sky. The fact that this obsession completely took over as Dave's initial role as "The Only Sane Man" on his team (along with his germophobia gimmick) didn't help. Even more fans abandoned the ship after Sky outright rejected Dave in Hurl and Go Seek. Finally, the ship lost the most shippers after the finale, in which Sky used Dave's attraction to her to help her win, there was a reveal that Sky already has a boyfriend, and Dave got a psychotic vendetta against Sky. Interestingly, various characters are blamed for the ship's ending. A lot of fans blame Dave for being obsessed with Sky and not taking "no" as an answer, a considerable amonut blames Sky for giving Dave false hope, rejecting him too harshly, using him in the finale, and being attracted to him despite already having a boyfriend. Some also blame Chris for mocking Dave for being rejected and revealing Sky's secret in the finale.
However, in spite of the controversy, the ship still has its supporters even to this day. Their fans rooted for them to hook up and were disappointed with the way their plot ended. With Sky's claim that she was going to break with her boyfriend before the show started, but ran out of time to do so, their fans still had hopes for the two. Fan arts and fan fictions created by their supporters tend to portray the relationship in a positive way and give them a happy ending together.
Both the ship's haters and supporters agree that the way Dave and Sky's plot ended was bad. The haters accuse it of rendering their plot, which was one of the most important ones in the season, pointless. While some admit that having the first mutual attraction not end up in a relationship was good for breaking the show's format, but the way it was handled made both Dave and Sky unsympathetic. The fans of the relationship dislike the way their plot ended for sinking their ship and for being given the false hope the entire time.
