Smiling Critters - Can't Sleep

When the intro opened, the scene slid into a nighttime background. As the paper was folded into a crescent moon, Catnap lied down at the edge of the moon and his tail slid down to Dogday. Dogday pulled his tail and the Smiling Critter logo slid in.

It unfolds on a stormy and windy night, depicted by the dark and unsettled atmosphere in DogDay's house. All the Smiling Critters (except CatNap) are huddled together in the cabin, wrapped in blankets and wearing worried expressions. They engage in a conversation, discussing their fear of the howling wind. DogDay attempts to uplift the mood by reassuring everyone that everything will be okay, stating that "all winds blow away... eventually."

Once CatNap shows up at his house, the critters' faces light up with relief as they all call out CatNap's name. They plead with CatNap, seeking assistance in falling asleep. In response, CatNap releases a red gas from his mouth. DogDay and the others takes on a more unnerving and sinister personality. he and they shows signs of insanity, addiction, and mania when inhaling CatNap's sleeping Poppy Gas, laughing hysterically with the others until they pass out onto the floor. Meanwhile, CatNap is left sitting alone on the couch, beside with Dogday sleeping.

Deep Sleep

As told by Dogday himself, CatNap at present is loyal to the Prototype, and views anyone who stands against him as "heretics". This happened to include the rest of the Smiling Critters, with CatNap killing them all before the events of the game. However, he left Dogday alive, keeping him crucified in a cell. It's suggested that CatNap has been torturing him, given that Dogday's legs have been ripped off.

After Dogday talks to the player, he's attacked by the Ruined Critters, who take control of his body and attack the player, presumably killing him. It's unclear whether the Ruined Critters did this out of their own volition, or if they were following CatNap's orders.

Fanon

As the video was posted by Mob Entertainment, SleepyDay became a popular ship for the fandom. With it being one of, if not the most popular ship not involving the player. Fans of SleepyDay enjoy the Sun x Moon dynamic between CatNap and DogDay. Shippers tend to ignore the canon of chapter 3, and instead focus on how the characters would have been portrayed in the in-universe cartoon. With them being much more soft and close versus the horror of their bigger bodies counterparts. While others enjoy the horror side and often explore the time of when Dogday was held captive by Catnap, most if not all fans of the ship ignore the kids turned into toys aspect of the Critters and instead just place the cartoon versions as sentient beings or have it where Catnap (cartoon) is in control alongside the kid who was turned into a Catnap toy.

On AO3, SleepyDay is the most written ship for CatNap and DogDay. It is also the third most written ship in the Poppy Playtime (Video Game) tag. There are currently 625 written works.

• In Can't Sleep, DogDay has a framed painting of him and CatNap hugging each-other.
• During Pride Month 2024, Mob Entertainment released an image of the Smiling Critters arranged as a rainbow, with Catnap holding a rainbow flag with his tail, hinting that he could be LGBTQ+.
• 2024/02/05 twitter user @penguinpuppete1 made a post humorously asking the community what their favorite ship is, with Sleepyday front and center. The official Mobentertainment account responded with a simple "lol".
