Ashley is racing with Bobo, while Buffy is racing with Electra for the final race. After Greaseball abandons Pearl, he steals Ashley away from Bobo, making her his partner. As Greaseball and Electra are about to crash, the two are unable to unhook from them and avoid the same fate.

Smoked Hot Dogs is a popular ship in the StEx fandom. The ship has had less popularity over the past few years due to Ashley and Buffy being replaced with other characters in modern productions. Both due to reflect the modern make up of passenger trains. The ship name comes from Ashley being a smoking car, and Buffy being a buffet car, which sometimes serve hot dogs. Prior to the 2024 Wembley Production, when fans referred to the "StEx lesbians", they were referring to the two of them. As they were most often the most shipped femslash ship of the fandom. As well as the two being more prominent than many of the other female characters. The ship doesn't have many rivals due to the two spending most of the musical with each other more than any other character. It is often shipped alongside GreaseDinah, Prusty and occasionally Dinahboose. With them often being in the background for these ships.
Fans of the ship often note how close the two are both in the show and often in promo photos. With many noting that in some shows, the choreography between the two can get rather suggestive. Shippers also like the idea of the two being coach's who don't want an engine. Preferring the idea of two characters of the same train type getting together, rather than every coach with an engine. Believing that they would fit the definition of a queer couple both in the audiences eyes and the eyes of the other trains.
On AO3, Smoked Hot Dogs is the most written ship for both Ashley and Buffy. There are currently 10+ written works.
