— Codec conversation for Samus

Snakus is the het ship between Solid Snake and Samus Aran from the Super Smash Bros. fandom

Canon[]

Samus and Snake are fellow fighters in the games through Samus being a part of the game since the original game and Snake being a fighter in Brawl and coming back in Ultimate. Both come from action games with stealth elements, but Metal Gear is a stealth game by definition while Metroid is a "Search Action" (exploration, Metroidvania) game.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Should Snake activate the Codec conversation for Samus, he will inform Otacon of "a woman in a Power Suit". Otacon is genuinely impressed that Snake managed to tell that Samus was a woman at first glance and informs him that she's Samus Aran, the most renowned bounty hunter in the galaxy. He warns Snake of Samus' arm cannon, calling the possibility of him being hit with a charged shot as him "kissing his butt good-bye". Snake is intrigued, calling Samus "my kind of woman". Otacon reminds Snake that he shouldn't get too close to her, calling her "deadly". He then gives a round-up of Samus' backstory, including telling him that the Chozo trained her in the fighting arts. However, Snake barely listens and insists that underneath the cold, metal exterior beats "the heart of a woman".

Should Snake activate the Codec conversation for Zero Suit Samus, he will inform Mei Ling that "Samus took her clothes off" in a tone of barely concealed surprise. Mei Ling tells him that she's just wearing her Zero Suit, which leads Snake to comment that Samus has gotten "a lot more agile" without her Power Suit in a borderline drawling tone. He then bets that he could "catch her" without all this bulky gear, which makes Mei Ling audibly uncomfortable, saying that he "wishes" he could do that. She then elaborates that Samus is still a very capable athlete even without her Power Suit, saying that no "normal human" could keep up. Snake admits defeat, saying it's "her loss".

Besides the Codec conversations also an Event Match, where the player controls Snake, fighting a number of other fighters, including Samus.

The Subspace Emissary[]

Beyond general interactions of both boarding the Halberd, Snake and Samus have very little interaction in the story mode.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

Snake and Samus are both seen in the united forces against Galeem. When Galeem attacks with his light, Samus tries to shoot the light with her arm cannon, Snake hides from the light in a cardboard box. Both still get disintegrated just like everyone else.

Fanon[]

Snakus was one of the big ships for Brawl. Generally, it helps that Snake expresses actual attraction to Samus, but the ship would've sailed even without that bit of canon. People would've paired Samus with Snake anyway for two reasons: 1. They're the closest thing Smash has to regular people, 2. Both are considered to be extremely attractive by the fanbase and would look very good together, naturally.

Aside from that, many also liked the similarities in their personalities, both being stoic and serious people associated with their world's military. The Smash Bros. series giving Samus a more playful, sarcastic edge not usually seen in her home series also made the idea of shipping them very appealing.

During Brawl's lifetime, it was especially popular to imagine a kind of "love triangle" between Samus, Snake and Captain Falcon, due to FalSam being the big ship of the previous two games and the two ships having a bit of a rivalry with each other. Ironically, while it continues to be the most popular ship for Snake, it is only the fourth most popular ship for Samus (and none of her Top 3 are with Captain Falcon either).
