Snamione is the het ship between Severus Snape and Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter fandom.
Canon[]
Like most of the students at Hogwarts, Hermione appears to have found Snape as a mysterious, frightening, and strict teacher. No matter the excellence of her work, Snape always rejects it - often telling her that books aren't to be taken as fact. Despite his surliness, Hermione always defends Snape to her friends, reminding them to use his title of Professor, and not to insult him. Over all, we never know if Hermione trusted Severus, as there is no evidence to prove or disprove it in the books/movies.
Severus Snape taught Hermione Granger for six years, five as her Potions Professor, and one as her DADA professor. She always excelled in his classes, however due to her answering his questions whether he asked her or not and being an "insufferable know-it-all", he finds her somewhat annoying. In the movies, he is seen protecting her, Harry, and Ronald from a transformed Remus Lupin, showing that he must care about her safety, or at least the safety of his students. Snape also showed some care for his student, as when someone called Hermione a "mudblood", he demanded that the word not be used.
Through it all, Hermione seems to care for Severus or at least show him empathy - as she was shocked and cried when he died - despite not knowing at that moment that he was on their side.
Philosopher's Stone[]
Hermione attends Professor Snapes potions class and when he asks Harry questions and he didn’t know the answer she raised her hands and after a few minutes and tells her to put her hand down and tells Harry the answers himself and takes away points from the Gryffindor house for Harry’s cheek on lack of answering, not paying attention and giving Snape an attitude on telling Hermione knows the answer and shamed he didn’t let her answer his questions.
Fanon[]
Snamione is surprisingly popular in the fandom, on AO3, this ship is the second most written ship for Snape and the third most written for Hermione - with similar (and sometimes higher) popularity on FFN.net.
Fans of this ship highlight the complexities of both of these characters, underlining their deep emotions, their vast intelligence, and their difficulty with fitting in with others. Both of these are strong characters who have overcome many challenges in their lives and might be drawn together in their similarities.
In Snamione stories, it is quite popular that Hermione trusts Severus throught her years at school (oftentimes starting after he protected her from the werewolf), and sympathises with the pain he goes through as part of his work as a spy. Most stories are separated into two categories: Hogwarts-era, and post-Deathly Hallows, though Hogwarts-era does not necessarily mean a student/teacher relationship. All stories (unless both Hermione and Severus are the same age) occur after Hermione becomes of legal age, and most ignore the epilogue (EWE).
The ships falls into the popular "Teacher/Student" trope, but contains a greater age difference than most. However, the canon relationship of Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin also contains a large age difference, so there are many who deem this relationship as acceptable. A variation of their relationship is the "Time-Turner" trope, which erases the matter of age differences all together. These stories are generally separated into: Hermione travels to the past, and Severus travels to the future. While the former is more popular, there are several stories written of the latter. The last popular trope is Severus Snape rescuing Hermione Granger from marital abuse (committed by Ronald Weasley) - taking place post-Deathly Hallows.
There are many authors dedicated solely to the SSHG pairing, but quite a few have several pairings that the enjoy - SSHG included.
