SoapMic is the femslash ship between Soap and Microphone from the Inanimate Insanity fandom.
Canon[]
Inanimate Insanity II[]
The two are placed as teammates of The Grand Slams for the season. In the pizza making challenge, Microphone brings a cheese grater and asks Soap where they'll get cheese. When Soap points out Cheesy in the distance, she tells the team to get him and Microphone lunges at Cheesy. She holds down the grater while Soap grates Cheesy with it. Later when Microphone looks at the progress of their pizza and calls it unappetizing, Soap tells her not to worry and adds disinfectant on it.
When Soap motivates the team during the cleaning challenge, Microphone roots for her and supports her in being the team's captain. Baseball, the actual team captain, is offended by this as Microphone explains that Soap actually treats her well while Baseball yells at her frequently.
Before the eighth elimination, Soap and Microphone are walking up a cliff with cleaning supplies. Soap thanks Microphone for helping her with moving on from cleaning. Microphone accepts and comments about having now known of a triple-sided mop existing. Soap explains to Microphone that cleaning has felt like a defense mechanism and even though she can clean as much as she wants, life will never be squeaky clean. Understanding, Microphone wishes she started talking to her sooner as she says that her input isn't valued by the rest of the team. Soap tells Microphone that everyone's opinion matters and that she should listen to her heart. Reaching the top of the cliff, Soap demonstrates listening to her own heart by holding out her cleaning supplies about to let go. After hesitating, she decides not to at the last second and shocks Microphone with this. Right as she starts singing on why cleaning is her life, Microphone slaps Soap and tells her to pull herself together. Microphone launches the supplies away, making Soap briefly scream as she thanks Microphone for helping her. In the elimination when Soap is revealed to be eliminated, Microphone grasps onto her as the two are in disbelief. As Soap is about to leave, she tells Microphone to listen to her heart. Later, Microphone writes in her diary that Soap was kicked out when it wasn't her time to go.
At the Hotel OJ party, Soap catches Microphone off guard by taking a picture of them both. Microphone playfully calls her out and says to delete the picture, which Soap does. Appearing in her recently deleted photos album, Soap tells Microphone that it's a good thing she can keep a secret as the two laugh it off. Later while the contestants are panicking after OJ's deletion, Microphone cannot find Soap and is calling out for her.
In the MeAfterLife when Microphone is questioning how they still exist after Cobs deleted everyone, Soap realizes that they were only recently deleted rather than being deleted forever. Microphone compares this to the embarrassing picture that Soap took, realizing that they may still have a chance of being saved. Later after all the contestants are restored, Soap approaches Microphone and Taco. Meeting Taco for the first time, Soap has heard about Taco from Microphone before and calls Taco cool. However, Soap warns Taco not to mess with Microphone again and threatens to scrub her out of Microphone's life if she does.
Fanon[]
The ship has been prevalent for the two characters since their friendship began to form in the second season. For many fans, the duo has been appreciated since it was the first close friendship for both characters. Even with Soap's elimination the episode they closely bonded, this had a lasting impact on the ship's popularity the years following. The pairing had gained a following with numerous fan art and fan fictions to back them up. It is Soap's most popular ship and one of Microphone's, although it is rivaled in notability by Tacomic.
On AO3, as of December 23, 2024, the ship has 43 works in its romantic tag and 16 under its platonic tag. It is the most written ship for Soap and the third most for Microphone on the site.
