SoarinDash is the het ship between Soarin and Rainbow Dash from the My Little Pony fandom.

Canon[]

As revealed in “Parental Glideance”, Rainbow Dash first encountered Soarin when they were both young foals competing in races. However, there is no indication that they were more than passing acquaintances or saw each other as more than competitors. As time passed, Rainbow came to surpass Soarin in the competitions. Soarin doesn’t seem to have resented this, though Soarin was among those perturbed by the rather enthusiastic support Rainbow Dash received from her parents.

Years later, after Rainbow Dash had relocated to Ponyville, Soarin had become a member of the Wonderbolts flying team. Rainbow Dash also aspired to join the group. In “The Ticket Master”, upon learning of Twilight Sparkle’s ticket to the Grand Galloping Gala, Rainbow Dash wishes to attend so she can meet the Wonderbolts. In her fantasy, Rainbow Dash impresses the team and shakes hooves with Soarin in particular.

In “Sonic Rainboom”, Soarin is among the ponies rescued by Rainbow Dash when Rarity’s flight routine goes awry. He later joins the other Wonderbolts in thanking her, and is one of two to accompany her at the end of the episode. In “The Best Night Ever”, Rainbow Dash attempts to enact her fantasy of impressing the Wonderbolts enough to be invited to join them. She saves a pie dropped by Soarin, much to his relief, but her other efforts to impress him and his colleagues are disrupted by other gala attendees.

In “A Canterlot Wedding”, a snapshot shows Soarin in his dress uniform dancing or chatting with Rainbow Dash. In “Rainbow Falls”, Soarin greets Rainbow Dash after arriving at the titular location to try out for the upcoming Equestria Games. During a flight, a distracted Soarin is saved from a crash by Rainbow. Unfortunately, his teammates apparently consider him a liability and offer his spot on their team to Rainbow Dash.

Conflicted about choosing between her friends and her idols, Rainbow Dash fakes an injury only to end up in the same hospital room as Soarin. Upon learning of the other Wonderbolts’ duplicity, the two go to confront Soarin’s teammates. Impressed by Rainbow Dash’s commitment to her own team, they apologize to Soarin and welcome him back. In “Equestria Games”, Soarin and Rainbow Dash both compete in the aerial relay, and Soarin looks on as Rainbow receives her token from Fluttershy before speeding off. In “Twilight’s Kingdom”, Soarin is among the Pegasi whose stolen magic Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy restore.

In “Rarity Investigates!”, Soarin offers Rainbow Dash-now part of the Wonderbolt reserves-the chance to fly in place of an absent Spitfire. However, when it appears that Rainbow Dash herself used a fake letter to arrange for this absence, Soarin tells her that she will be expelled from the Wonderbolts entirely unless she is able to prove her innocence. When veteran Wind Rider proves to be the real culprit, Soarin turns to the exonerated Rainbow to replace Spitfire after all. Instead, and in spite of Soarin’s concerns, Rainbow Dash manages to bring Spitfire back in time for their performance. Spitfire promptly expels Wind Rider, whose place in the show Soarin then offers to Rainbow Dash. Dash is jubilant at the offer, and Soarin has to interrupt her celebratory dance so that they can all prepare for the show.

In “Newbie Dash”, Soarin is concerned when Rainbow’s effort to avoid being crashed into by him on her first day as a full Wonderbolt results in her plowing into a trash can. He asks if she’s all right, only for one of the other Wonderbolts to dub her Rainbow Crash, which even Soarin finds amusing. Rainbow Dash, having previously been addressed by the same humiliating nickname, accuses Soarin and his wingpony of making her crash. Much to her frustration, her defense is rejected, and the other Wonderbolts-Soarin included-continue to address her as Crash. Rainbow Dash sets out on a fairly harebrained attempt to convince the other Wonderbolts to change her nickname, unnerving Soarin and the others by imitating several of her friends.

Eventually, she goes so far as to enact a dangerous stunt during her first performance in hopes of impressing her teammates, only to achieve the exact opposite. Shamefaced, Rainbow Dash apologizes and expresses the belief that she’s not cut out to be a Wonderbolt. However, Soarin is quick to reject this suggestion, arguing that Rainbow is the best flyer in the group. When Rainbow then questions her unflattering nickname, she is informed that all of the Wonderbolts have nicknames based on embarrassing incidents from early in their careers. Soarin is the first to explain to her his own nickname, Clipper, which he received after hitting a flagpole during a landing.

In the comic issue Friends Forever #36, Spitfire asks Rainbow Dash to go retrieve Soarin after he leaves for the Yaket Mountain Range. Spitfire explains that Soarin left after flubbing a performance, and that she doesn’t feel comfortable going after him herself after the events of “Rainbow Falls.” However, Soarin is displeased to learn that Rainbow has been sent in Spitfire’s place, taking it as evidence that Spitfire has little regard for him. Rainbow tries to stand up for Spitfire and reason with Soarin, but he refuses to leave with her until he proves himself. When Rainbow argues that he’s already done so by becoming a Wonderbolt, Soarin brings up his recent mishaps and notes that being good enough to become a Wonderbolt doesn’t matter if he can’t keep up to the standard.

When they receive word of the need for an emergency delivery in severe weather, Soarin volunteers, and Rainbow offers to join him after he refuses to be talked out of it. As they fly through a lightning snowstorm, Soarin saves the less experienced Rainbow Dash twice, which she thanks him for as they take temporary shelter. When Rainbow again questions his need to prove himself, Soarin notes that he lacks the natural ability Rainbow has and thus has to work harder to compensate. In spite of his success, he admits to sometimes feeling that he doesn’t really deserve to be a Wonderbolt. Rainbow is quick to dispute this, noting that even the best are not always at their best, as she demonstrated during “Newbie Dash.”

Though uplifted by her comments, Soarin confesses that he’s never fully gotten over Spitfire’s attempt to replace him during “Rainbow Falls.” Rainbow assures him that Spitfire was worried about him leaving, though Soarin notes that she apparently wasn’t willing to come after him herself. Rainbow responds that, though she has a hard time showing it, Spitfire-like the rest of the Wonderbolts, herself included-does care about him. Rainbow goes so far as to call him the heart of their team, which Soarin thanks her for. Upon completing their delivery, they find Spitfire waiting for them, having received a letter from Rainbow Dash conveying Soarin’s feelings about everything.

After Spitfire apologizes, the three Pegasi go for a flight in the now much friendlier weather, with Soarin and Rainbow exchanging looks as they enjoy the experience. In the present day of “Parental Glideance”, Soarin shows amusement when Rainbow Dash’s parents cheer her on during a Wonderbolts performance. Later, after Rainbow explodes at her parents, Soarin is among the Wonderbolts who help her put on a private show for them by way of apology. In the comic story “Wings Over Yakyakistan”, Soarin is quick to heed Rainbow Dash’s orders to take cover during a dragon attack. He is later surprised to learn that Rainbow Dash used to be shy about flying in front of other ponies, having never had that problem himself; Rainbow Dash is less than thrilled by his commentary.

When Rainbow Dash’s parents explain how she found the courage to take part in a flying competition, Soarin quickly assumes that she placed first, only for Rainbow to respond that she took fifth place. Soarin is fully willing to follow Dash into the air against the dragons, and helps persuade Spitfire to do likewise. Both Soarin and Rainbow fly to catch Spitire after she’s sent tumbling by a dragon.

In My Little Pony The Movie, Rainbow enlists Soarin and several other Wonderbolts to help clear the skies ahead of the Festival of Friendship in Canterlot. In “Grannies Gone Wild”, Soarin eagerly tells Rainbow Dash about the soon to close Wild Blue Yonder rollercoaster. He goes so far as to put a hoof around her shoulders while gesturing with the other in his excitement. In “The Summer Sun Setback”, Soarin is among the Wonderbolts Rainbow Dash enlists to help clear up some mismanaged weather.

In “The Ending of the End”, Soarin joins the many allies who come to help Rainbow Dash, the rest of the Mane Six, and Spike against their enemies. He is subsequently sent flying into a magical dome protecting a number of the allies, with Rainbow Dash looking on in shock at the sight. In The Last Problem, Rainbow moves a cloud beneath him and Spitfire when they crash into each other while practicing a routine Rainbow has devised for Twilight’s coronation. Later, he is among the individuals an older Rainbow Dadh recalls as being among the most notable in her life.
