SonGirl is the het ship between Sonic the Hedgehog and Girlfriend from the Sonic the Hedgehog and Friday Night Funkin' fandoms.
Canon[]
Girlfriend and Sonic have never met canonically due to being from two different media. Despite this, the duo have comparable assets to the characters. Sonic and Girlfriend are commonly seen as the "good guys" in their franchises, though this is untrue, at least more heavily on Girlfriend's behalf. Sonic has a strong sense of justice and despises evil in all forms. Girlfriend in contrast is naturally and absently depicted as a good-natured person due to being the deuteragonist in a game where the player battles against evil figures. Despite these depictions/assumptions, Sonic's carefree and egotistical attitude pushes him to be dismissive of others to enforce his ideal of what is "right". He refuses to refer to himself as a hero because of this. Girlfriend, however, is downright evil, though she may not have the intelligence to understand moral standards.
Girlfriend doesn't hesitate to commit various crimes to get her way, such as proceeding to steal her mother's vehicle to pressure the McDonald's window clerk into giving her free food with the assistance of her boyfriend. Additionally, she loves to pull mischievous pranks on Boyfriend and bears many fake IDs. Despite their apparent differing views between right and wrong, Sonic and Girlfriend perform the actions they do underneath their own perspectives and don't pay mind to others who convince them to do otherwise. Ultimately, both characters are rebellious, whether it be against the law or their loved ones. Even though they behave this way, they do hold the people they care for at very high regards.
The duo possess supernatural abilities that make them more powerful than most. Sonic possesses supernatural speed, and is even seen manipulating electricity as evident in the recent Sonic film releases. Girlfriend bears many abilities due to being born a demon, meaning she possesses dark magic that allows her to shape shift or easily defeat armed men. It is unclear what additional capabilities Girlfriend has.

SonGirl began around the release of the Sonic.EXE Friday Night Funkin' mod. With the growing popularity of the mod, more Sonic.EXE mods rolled in. This allowed room for shippers to ship Girlfriend and Sonic romantically. This arguably began as a crack ship, but some find themselves enjoying the pairing wholeheartedly. Another possible reason for the ship's birth is Sonic being a heavy resemblance of Boyfriend. This is said due to their confident egos, fun-seeking natures, and their primary colors being blue. With Boyfriend already being Girlfriend's romantic partner, some switched roles and paired her with Sonic instead. Many fanarts depict Amy and Boyfriend becoming envious and depressed over Sonic and Girlfriend's relationship with each other.
The ship influenced other fans to make fanart of Amy engaging in a romantic relationship with Boyfriend in a Pair the Spares spotlight. Others create SonBoy, the slash ship between Boyfriend and Sonic, as well.
