SonicLumine is the het ship between Sonic the Hedgehog and Lumine from the Sonic the Hedgehog and Genshin Impact fandoms.
Canon[]
Sonic and Lumine have never met, as they are from separate games. Both are protagonists of their respective games/series, Sonic the Hedgehog and Genshin Impact. Though unlike Sonic, Lumine is an optional protagonist. With the newest mainline Sonic game Sonic Frontiers, both characters are also featured in their own open-world style game. In both games, Sonic and Lumine are driven to find the ones they care about and leave the place they ended up stuck in.
Both characters have abilities relating to wind and electricity. Sonic is able to create gusts of wind from his natural speed, and Lumine is granted the ability of Anemo from a Statue of the Seven. They are also able to wield electricity later on in their continuities. Sonic is first seen using electric powers in the Paramount movies and Sonic Frontiers, while Lumine gains Electro abilities once reaching Inazuma. Both are also proficient at using a sword and have been granted knightly titles, "Knight of the Wind" and "Honorary Knight."
Sonic and Lumine are often considered heroes, though never strive to be such. The actions that earn them the title of hero are a result of their self-driven goals. Sonic simply does what he wants to do, which as someone who hates oppression, means ensuring freedom for others. Meanwhile Lumine is often dragged into heroic feats in search of her sibling despite not initially not wanting to be involved in the nation’s affairs, most clearly seen in Inazuma. Although the nuances of Lumine’s personality are determined by dialogue options, she is usually quite sassy and has been shown to be boastful or impatient, traits that Sonic shares.

Fanarts of Sonic and Lumine's relationship started due to Genshin Impact and Sonic Frontiers being nominated for the Player's Choice category of the The Game Awards of 2022. Sonic and Paimon, as well as Lumine in some instances, were depicted to be fighting to represent the fan wars of the Genshin Impact and Sonic fandoms at the time. Notoriously, Lumine was shown to be the one losing in these fan arts since Sonic Frontiers won the second voting round. Following these fanarts, later works depicted Sonic and Lumine having more amicable interactions to promote peace and good sportsmanship between the fandoms. Once Genshin Impact won the Player's Choice reward, Sonic has also been shown to be congratulating Lumine on the win.
These friendly fanarts usually consist of the two hanging out together and talking about their adventures. This eventually grew into shipping them romantically as a crack ship. The most notable of these is art by Spideyhog on Twitter of the two kissing, which popularized the ship. Though Lumine is normally depicted as the Traveler in these arts, and thus wouldn’t be the Abyss Princess, many compare the ship to Sonic’s romance with another human princess, Sonelise. Because of them being two different species from completely unrelated games, many find Sonic and Lumine to be a very cursed ship.
