Canon[]
Sophia and Liam are the player characters in The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout. Depending on which of the pair is chosen, the other will take on a supporting role in the game's overall storyline. The two are betrothed prior to the events of the game, having grown up together in the town of Lilygrove and later both applied to join the Lilygrove Scouts Corps. It was this event that actually led to their betrothal, with each of the pair coming to see the other in a new light that contributed to their romance. Liam often demonstrates his affection for Sophia by calling her either Sophy or Soph for short.
Whichever of the pair is not chosen by the player ends up becoming a member of the Scout Corps first and then helps to oversee their betrothed's own final test before initiation. While the player of the pair takes part in a celebration with the other scouts, the other character gets together with other Lilygrove residents to prepare an even larger party in honor of the event. Unfortunately, Lilygrove is then attacked by the forces of Cluny the Scourge, led by a monstrous brute named Scumsnout. The non-player character takes part in resistance efforts against the invaders, only to be bitten by Scumsnout and left with an infected wound.
After searching for and finding the non-player, the player character acts to distract Scumsnout. They are then tasked with helping the injured non-player with reaching the Winsome Wraith, home to a healer named Valo Scrimpaw. As they travel, the player becomes deeply concerned with the deteriorating state of the non-player, and players may choose actions that favor aiding the non-player over any other concerns. The two offer comfort and encouragement to each other through the course of their journey.
The injured character does their best to reassure the other even to the point that they deny how bad they are really feeling. However, the player character knows their partner well enough to see the truth and is reluctant to leave them even to scout out a safe path. It is only when they find an acquaintance from Lillygrove to stay with the injured character that the player is willing to carry onward. Later, when confronted by the owl Captain Snow, the player speaks of their quest to save the life of their injured partner and expresses defiant determination to do so in spite of the owls' superior power and arrogance.
Unfortunately, in the course of going to the aid of a fellow scout, the player fails to recognize their warning of danger. As a result, the non-player character is taken captive by Cluny's lieutenant Cheesethief, forcing the player character to affect a rescue. In the process, they use the plight of the non-player character as part of their argument to win over Glimber, a fearful mole, to their assistance. The player manages to free the non-player from a cage where they were being interrogated by Cheesethief, and expresses regret for letting them get into the situation.
Later, as the player character gets into a panic over the encroachments of the rats, the non-player interrupts them and points out that Glimber has been trying to get their attention. Another, similar incident occurs when Glimber asks to come along with the Scouts as they continue on their path to the Winsome Wraith. Though the player initially doesn't want to bring Glimber along, the injured character persuades them to do so. Following an attack by Scumsnout, during which the pair are briefly separated, their joyful reunion helps the player character regain a sense of security in spite of their ongoing difficulties.
Once the pair and a few allies finally reach the Winsome Wraith, the non-player is treated for their injuries. However, the severity of the wound is such that Valo Scrimpaw urges the group to continue on to Redwall Abbey. They are soon forced to flee Cheesethief's forces yet again, ultimately reaching Redwall after a final confrontation with Scumsnout. With the non-player character's injuries treated by Redwall's healers and both their families arriving with other Lilygrove residents, the pair prepare to hold their wedding at Redwall itself. The story of their adventures would later be turned into a play by Brother Jethro Barleyrow of Redwall, who noted that the pair were indeed later married.
Fanon[]
Perhaps due to The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout being a video game addition to the Redwall mythos, its original characters lack the popularity of those from the book series. As such, few if any fan works feature SophLiam.
