Canon[]
The Captive Turnabout[]
Simeon is arrested on the charges of murdering Bronco. Miles decides to take over the case as Eddie Fender's assistant and defend him now since he's a prosecutor and wouldn't be able to otherwise. He doesn't believe a person as "gentle" as Simeon is capable of murder. During his investigation he confronts Verity on why they suspected Simeon, to which he comes to find out that Simeon works at the Berry Big Circus as an animal tamer, which makes him capable of sneaking in the chessboard with the chisel inside. After that, Miles pays Simeon another visit to question him on that regard. Simeon states he went to check on Bronco again after his first initial visit. When questioned as to why he didn't mention it before hand he responds, "I thought that if anyone found out, nobody would believe I was innocent - -" to which Miles interjects "I thought I'd made it clear that I believed in you". Simeon also mentions his dad passing away as a kid to which Miles comments that he too "knows that pain" showing the two share something in common.
Later, when Miles is confronting Gavelle, she tells him that if he continues on he would have his prosecutor badge taken away. Miles insists to continue on and states he has something "far more important to protect as an associate attorney...My client.", showing how much he's willing to risk to defend Simeon. Again when Miles is investigating the prison yard Gavelle questions him and states that the Committee "cannot and will not tolerate insubordination." to which Miles responds "the fate of my badge and the whims of the committee" are of no concern to him. The only thing he is concerned about is "proving Simeon Saint's innocence!". When Miles feels as though giving up, Fender tells him that if there's any way to turn around the case that he'd be the one to find it and that Simeon's counting on him which helps Miles regain his composure. When he realizes that he has no way of objecting Gavelle and is aware how reckless that would be he recalls and states that he "cant back down now." and that he has to "put everything on the line!". He isn't a prosecutor but "an associate attorney with a client to defend!)" and that only he could "save Mr. Saint." putting himself in a lot of risk yet again by bluffing, which isn't something Miles ever tends to do, just to help defend him.
After Laguarde is arrested of the crime, Simeon shows up and states he was told that he was "free to go" he had "Mr. Edgeworth to thank.", Kay agrees and Simeon asks Miles if he really did that for him. Regina adds "It's true! He saved you! So say thanks already!", Simeon thanks him for Miles's surprise "(Mr. Saint talking directly to me...?" Small victories, I suppose.)" Simeon then asks him if Bronco really did trust him, Miles proves he did in fact trust him, stating that he knew he would never be so "untrusting", which could be seen as Miles perception of Simeon too. After that, Simeon tells Miles about a new show and how he'd "love" if he could come and that he'd also be performing onstage, Miles in response says he'll "think about it."
Turnabout for the Ages[]
Miles comes to realize that the mastermind is Simeon and comes to the Berry Big Circus to confront him. Simeon greets him and asks if he's here to watch the show that he had previously invited him to and that he was "glad" that he "kept his promise!" to which Miles responds that he does remember getting the poster from Simeon. He states Miles would have "so much fun!" and that even Miles would "be surprised", Miles states he was already "surprised enough" by his performance, alluding to the crimes he had committed. When Miles lists the crimes Simeon had committed, and how he carried the unconscious Kay and instigated the crimes, Simeon says "Please, you have to believe me... I'd never, ever, ever do anything like that!" and Miles responds how he wishes he could "believe" him but any "trust" he had in Simeon had been "completely destroyed.". Simeon then reminds him of how he told Simeon back when he was arrested that he "believed" in his innocence, trying to manipulate Miles and steer him away from his line of reasoning because he knows how to root people's "psychological weaknesses" and "exploit them." as Miles explains. "Without even realizing it, they wind up doing exactly what you want them to." which is how Simeon had managed to get Miles to defend and trust in him previously. When Simeon states that all prosecutors are the same he takes a brief pause between "prosecutors" and "Miles", hesitating possibly seeing Miles as a separate person from the corrupt system.
Fender notices how nervous Miles had gotten he interrupts the two by saying, "Come on now, you two. There's no need to get all hot under the collar.", alluding to Miles and Simeon's behavior with one another. Simeon questions why he's "sticking his nose in for?!", possibly preferring when the conversation was between just him and Miles. Both Fender and Kay buy Miles some time distracting Simeon so Miles can get his act together and remember what other clue connects Simeon to the crimes he interjects and asks Simeon if he was a "fan of chess" to which Simeon responds that he "doesn't hate it", another thing the two share in common. When Miles manages to connect Simeon to the events due to a correspondence chess letter arriving late, this causes Simeon to recall his memories of the IS7 incident. His memories are jumbled up due to his near death experience in the freezing car causing him to confuse his father with Bronco's.
Simeon then starts to recall his memories of the orphanage and how fearful he was of Laguarde's interrogations causing him to be a "nervous wreck", "who could blame me for wanting to get out of there?" to which Miles responds that it probably wasn't "as easy as simply running away." and that "Winner" referring to Excelsius would've sent his men after him." showing pity on Miles's side. Simeon goes on to mention being the one to slip in the chisel into Bronco's chess set to Miles's surprise. Claiming Miles to be the "last piece to put into play", as though perceiving it as a game of chess. Miles states that he hadn't solved those cases for his sake, Simeon then puts on his meek act again, "all I had to do was cower and say "nonononono" a few times...and you rode to my rescue like the hero you are!", taunting Miles. This causes Miles to question his intentions regarding the arrest and if it were part of his plan to which he denies and states he too didn't expect they'd suspect the chisel to be the murder weapon. He refers to Miles as the "greatest legal mind of his generation!" and his "knight in shining armor!", showing how he perceives Miles. The word "Knight" being especially important if you consider his former friend Knight and how he refers to him in comparison to Miles. When he questions if Miles enjoyed "saving" him as though he doesn't see his feelings as genuine, Kay interrupts by disagreeing and stating that he "wasn't playing at being an attorney!" and that he was in fact "trying to help".

Fanon[]
Miles trusting Simeon and taking on the case despite the evidence against him, shows his growth from only ever relying on evidence to trying to hear people out which is another reason people ship the two. The ship is quite small in the fandom due to the game only being localized recently in 2024, and also due to the ship being overshadowed by other pairings for the two such as Manosouta and Narumitsu. The ship had garnered a few fans due to it's similarity to existing ships in the fandom such as Krisnix and Narumiya. The fans tend to comment on the similarities and parallels Phoenix and Miles have of being manipulated by people, though in the case of phoenix he had come to realize that both Dahlia and Kristoph are truly evil and doesn't pity them in comparison to Miles who still does wish he could've "saved" Simeon as though he has a savior complex and sees the potential in him which is another reason people ship the two. This is further evident when Simeon refers to Miles as his "knight in shining armor". Fans interpreting this line to be a reference to Bronco and the fact Simeon refers to just Miles as his "Knight" shows how he views him.
Fans tend to picture Miles visiting Simeon in prison after his arrest to check up on him as well as to play chess with Kanis. The two still keeping in contact despite their circumstances. It's also evident to mention that Simeon refers to Miles by his first name later on which isn't something many characters often do in the series.
