Spam is the slash ship between Spock and Sam Kirk from the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds fandom.

Canon[]

Children of the Comet[]

Sam takes a step onto the base of the egg and when nothing happens exclaims "yahtzee". When Spock doesn't give a reaction, Sam says that it's an old earth game. Spock says he's familiar with it, but is detecting a dangerous build up of energy. Sam starts to get close to the egg as Spock tells him to step away. The egg then lets off a mass amount of energy and Sam in knocked aside unconscious. Spock takes a reading, and when he finds that Sam's heart is stopped, says that they need to take him to the ship. He starts to use the defibulator on him, and is able to get his heart to restart.

All Those Who Wander[]

When they reach the planet, Sam says that it'll be a hike to the ship. Spock says that they were forced to land so far away due to how unstable the planet is, and to move quickly before they're overtaken by an ice storm. Lieutenant Duke asks if the anomaly is what's causing the disturbance, and Spock answers calling him "ensign". Sam says that Spock now owes Duke a drink, much to Spock's confusion and Chapel explains it's because Spock called him ensign instead of lieutenant. Spock asks aloud if there is a limit to the number of human drinking games and Sam says that there isn't.

Spock finds some of the gorn attributes impressive, which Sam finds offensive. Spock says it's merely an observation, but Sam says that they killed Duke right in front of him. He asks if that makes Spock feel anything, and asks if he's even capable of it. That he's just a heartless pointy eared computer when Pike yells to put a stop to it.

As Spock is about to be attacked by a second Gorn, Sam pulls him into the room and closes the door behind them. Spock then pins Sam to the wall, still in a high adrenaline frenzy. Sam says that it's him and Spock comes to his senses, letting Sam go.

Spam is a rare pair in the Star Trek fandoms. It mostly gained a joking following after Sam first appeared in Strange New Worlds. Mostly due to Spock and Sam's brother, Jim, are the original and most well known ships of all time. Others discussed how it was out of continuity for Spock to know Sam, since in Operation Anilation Jim told him about Sam for the first time. Though this added to the fandom joke that Spock won't ever acknowledge his family until their right in front of him, and it now extending to his fellow crewmembers family as well.
