- —Sparkle to Firefly in "Through A Glass Darkly".
Sparkfly is the femslash ship between Sparkle and Firefly from the Honkai: Star Rail fandom.
Canon[]
Sparkle and Firefly are both Penacony characters, with Sparkle being originally introduced as a VIP guest invited to The Feast to represent The Masked Fools, and Firefly being introduced as a Penacony native from The Iris Family. However, it was later revealed by Black Swan in "Masquerade Duet" that Sparkle was hired by someone to come to Penacony, therefore she may not have actually been invited as a guest. Additionally, Firefly revealed to the main character in "Gentleness, The Name Of Nocturne" that she was not a member of The Iris Family, or even a Penacony native, but in fact a stowaway who came to Penacony to pursue The Watchmaker's Legacy. They first met one another in "Tales From The Golden Age" whilst Sparkle was pretending to be Sampo.
Sparkle is a member of The Masked Fools who is implied to come from the planet Edo Star. She puts on a very chaotic and somewhat insane personality, seemingly being a person who will cause all sorts of chaos purely to feel "Elation", and appears to lack respect for others. Her true identity is unknown as she puts on all sorts of different "faces", with it being implied she does not know who she truly is, nor does she feel any emotions.
Firefly is one of The Stellaron Hunters, Stellaron Hunter Sam, originating from the Falakor Galaxy. Firefly is shown to be quite an extroverted person with a gentle and kind personality, who cares for others a lot. After the main character helped her, she did not hesitate to show them around, as well as treating them multiple times. As Sam, she is shown to be much more serious and melancholic, thinking very logically and a very talented fighter. Due to being subject to genetic modification, she is a short life species, and is desperate to find a way to combat her limited lifespan.
The two have appear to have completely different and contrasting personalities both in their interactions with one another and throughout the game, befitting of the Opposites Attract trope. They do not seem to get along very well, as Firefly was shown to be very hesitant and weary of Sparkle whilst she was pretending to be Sampo, with Sparkle having mutual distrust of Firefly in return, seeming to know her true identity.
Tales From The Golden Age[]
After having followed Firefly and the main character for quite some time, Sparkle (disguised as Sampo), approaches them and greets the main character. "Sampo" tells the main character it has been so long since "he" last saw them, and remarks that it is due to them opening Jarilo-VI to the outside that "he" can be here. Firefly asks the main character who "he" is, to which "he" responds in surprise that March 7th does not recognize "him". Firefly tells "him" that she is not March 7th, she is Firefly, a stage performer from The Iris Family, to which "Sampo" makes the excuse that "he" suspected March could not change her appearance that much in such a short time, and tells Firefly it is a pleasure to meet her.
Firefly asks "Sampo" why "he" is here in Penacony, but "he" simply laughs in response and tells Firefly she is funny, stating "he" is merely on vacation. "Sampo" then remarks that since fate brought them together, "he" should give the main character a proper tour of Penacony, as whilst Firefly does know Penacony well, "he" can provide some "entertainment for grownups". Firefly questions what "he" means by this, but instead of answering "he" simply states "his" analysis was obviously correct, and asks for both Firefly and the main character to follow "him".
Good Omen, My Friend[]
Firefly is hesitant to follow "Sampo", but "he" tells her that it is not illegal and is there is no need to worry, so she and the main character decide to comply. Firefly is hesitant about using a pinball machine to get to the destination, remarking that it could be unsafe as the main character is not fully adjusted to The Dreamscape, to which "Sampo" assures her they are in a beautiful and safe dream, and nothing will go wrong. Upon arriving at the destination, Firefly asks "Sampo" if this is the lower level of the district, to which "he" affirms her statement, stating their destination is Peppy Pepeshi's Salon.
Upon arriving at the Salon, the Pepeshi bodyguard refuses to let Firefly and the main character in as they do not have VIP cards. Despite "Sampo" telling the bodyguard "he" can provide "his" own VIP card as proof they will behave, the bodyguard still refuses, so "Sampo" instead asks if the bodyguard can pick up some items "he" left inside. The bodyguard complies and goes into to get them, returns shortly and handing them to "Sampo", who thanks them, before instructing Firefly and the main character to once again follow "him".
"Sampo" leads them to a TV, prompting Firefly to question why a TV was dumped on the side of the road. "Sampo" laughs in response and tells her she is mistaken, it is in fact an arcade and what they will be trying out for entertainment first, encouraging the main character to touch it. If the player chooses to question if it is a trap, Firefly reaffirms that she thinks there is something fishy about it, prompting "Sampo" to sigh that it responds to The Family, so there could not be anything be wrong with it. The two then turn and stare at the main character in sync, and they decide upon touching the TV, as soon as they do so turning into Brother Hanu. "Sampo" is amused by the transformation, but Firefly questions how the main character turned into Hanu, but remarks they look so cool, to which "Sampo" affirms that they "have swag". Firefly once more questions how they turned into Hanu, this time asking "Sampo" directly, and "he" simply responds that they got sucked into the TV and switched bodies with Hanu, and now they must play the game Hanu's Adventure. Resigned to their fate they comply and begin doing Hanu's Adventure, with both "Sampo" and Firefly stating they will cheer them on.
Upon returning from the game Firefly greets the main characters and asks if they are okay, whilst "Sampo" praises their performance and states they can now move onto the next step, and the two follow "him" to Dr Edward's store. Upon arriving there, "Sampo" tells Dr Edward he would like them to try something "fun". Dr Edward agrees and asks if they want to use "his" Dreamscape, which causes Firefly to question what is going on. Dr Edward tells her it is a special service where you can submit dreams you have had recently, and "Sampo" states that this is also a way you can go back to dreams you wished you could continue after you woke up. Firefly is very intrigued by this, prompting "Sampo" to state "he" admires her eagerness, but it is best to use "his" dream. The main character complies and enters the dream.
The dream turns out to be set in Natasha's clinic in Belobog, and after taking a minute to adjust to their surroundings, the main character and Firefly leave and almost instantly run into a trash can called Shatana. Shatana asks for their help in rallying the trashcans together to confront Tatalov The Garbage King. Whilst being nonetheless confused, the main character and Firefly comply and collect three Proofs Of Trust. Upon returning to Shatana, she escorts them to The Pillars Of Creation, where the main character is confronted and attacked by a giant Sampo, who is "The Garbage King". The main character charges into battle, turning into a ginormous trashcan, however the dream is then interrupted by Firefly, bringing both of them back to the present.
The main character returns back to The Dreamscape and finds a disappointed "Sampo", remarking that it such a shame a meaningful dream was interrupted by Firefly. "He" then remarks that the main character should have realized the truth, and that they are being distracted by all the pretty scenery in the dream, and are failing to see the dark truth hidden in the dream. The main character is confused and asks what "he" means, to which "he" tells them to turn around, drawing attention to how Firefly is gone. "He" remarks that she claims to be a local but only has street smarts, she knows nothing else about the way The Dreamscape works. "He" states that she is clearly suspicious, and they should confront her about the truth on who she really is, before promptly taking "his" leave. Uncertain, the main character quickly locates Firefly, and before they can say anything she apologizes to them. They ask her if they can know the truth, and she admits she is hiding things, and that she is not a local like "Sampo" stated, but still nonetheless appreciates their help. She then asks if they can come to her "secret base" with her, as she promises she will tell them the truth then, and they comply and leave to go there with her.
Through A Glass Darkly[]
When the main character arrives outside the Reverie Hotel with Firefly, they instantly spot "Sampo" standing there waiting for them. "Sampo" remarks to the main character that "he" sees they have not headed "his" warning about Firefly, telling them they are just so blind. This comment sets Firefly on edge, and she remarks she is now quite sure that "Sampo" is dangerous. "Sampo" is amused by the remark and calls Firefly a brave girl, asking the main character if they are really so close that she is willing to protect them, prompting Firefly to tell "him" that "he" talks too much. "Sampo" is very amused by this remark, calling Firefly my dear and complimenting both her attitude and sharp senses.
"Sampo" then sighs that she is still behind the other parties, and has not yet noticed what The Family is really hiding. "He" then sighs that "he" is really disappointed in the main character and conjures "his" red herrings, which float around Firefly and the main character, causing them to become drowsy. Sparkle then slowly transforms back into herself as she walks towards the main character and flicks them on the head, sending both them and Firefly collapsing to the ground as they enter the "Real Dreamscape".

Fanon[]
Sparkfly is considered to be a very rare pairing in the fandom with very little shippers. Back when the characters were first leaked, a few people took interest in the two, considering them to have good potential, and compliment each other nicely. A few Honakana shippers even took interest in the two, and shipped them purely due to them sharing the same JP VA's with characters Mochizuki Honami and Yoisaki Kanade respectively. However, they were quickly overshadowed by Stellefly/CaeFly, due to the amount of ship tease Firefly received with the main character, as well as other more popular Sparkle pairings such as SparkleSwan and Robinabi. Nonetheless they still had a small fandom of dedicated shippers and a few fanarts going around.
After the release of Penacony, the two did not gain much popularity as a ship, despite having a canon interaction with one another. In fact, they are considered more unpopular than several Penacony ships where the characters have never met one another, and fall more towards the lower end of the unpopular Penacony ships. The main cause of their lack of popularity is likely due to the amount of focus the game placed on Firefly and the main character's relationship, and Sparkle's obsession with Black Swan taking up a decent amount of her significant screen time, as well as the fact the two are shown to have equal mistrust of one another. However, they did gain a small amount of new shippers, and veteran shippers received their own fuel.
Additionally, a couple of Robinabi fans started a theory that Robin was the person who hired Sparkle to come to Penacony. Because they acknowledged that there was an also equal chance of it being Elio who hired her, and essentially Firefly, a few Sparkfly shippers took interest in a theory that Firefly was the one who hired her, or the two would be co-operating with one another per Elio's request. Currently it seems to be the case that the person who hired Sparkle to come to Penacony has instructed her to get all the invited parties involved in something, likely The Watchmaker's Legacy, which fits in perfectly with a leak about Firefly, as well as the currently known information that Firefly is after The Watchmaker's Legacy. The theory is mostly seen among a very small amount of Robinabi fans, however that does not stop a couple of Sparkfly fans from being on board with their own Sparkfly theory. However, it was then revealed to be Silver Wolf who hired Sparkle, to help Firefly successfully complete her three deaths.
Sparkfly is rivaled by both Sparkle and Firefly's most popular ships, SparkleSwan and Stellefly/CaeFly, as well as Robifly, Robinabi and Silverfly.
