Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad is the friendship between Makoto Yuki/Kotone Shiomi, Yukari Takeba, Junpei Iori, Akihiko Sanada, Mitsuru Kirijo, Fuuka Yamagishi, Aigis, Koromaru, Ken Amada, and Shinjiro Aragaki from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
Persona 3[]
SEES was founded and created by Mitsuru, Akihiko, and Shinjiro during their middle school days. On October 4th, 2007, Shinjiro lost control of his Persona and accidentally killed Ken’s mother, a bystander. After that incident, Shinjiro left SEES out of guilt, leaving Mitsuru and Akihiko the only active members.
Makoto/Kotone, Yukari, and Junpei joined SEES two years later in mid-April. Mitsuru and Akihiko took them to Tartarus for training to get used to their Personas and weapons. On May 9th, during the second operation, Makoto, Yukari, and Junpei participated in an unknown Shadow on the monorail. The Shadow trapped them inside and controlled the train at a fast speed. They successfully defeated Arcana Priestess, and Makoto/Kotone managed to stop the train in the last seconds before it crashed into another train. On June 8th, during the third operation, Makoto/Kotone, Yukari, Junpei, Akihiko, and Mitsuru sneak into the school to rescue Fuuka, trapped in Tartarus for ten days. They split into two groups: One to go to where Fuuka was trapped to save her and the second to wait at Tartarus's entrance. Makoto/Kotone, Junpei, and Akihiko go inside Tartarus to find Fuuka, and Yukari stays behind with Mitsuru. After the first group finds Fuuka, Akihiko realizes the abnormal Shadows only in every full moon. They leave Tartarus to regroup with Mitsuru and Yukari, but they are overwhelmed and defeated by the Arcana Emperor and Empress. The reason for this is that they couldn’t exploit a consistent weakness. Fuuka summons her Persona, Lucia, who can sense Shadow's weaknesses, allowing Akihiko, Junpei, and Makoto/Kotone to fight the Shadows. A few days later, Fuuka fully recovered and joined SEES to become helpful to the team.
In the fourth operation, SEES faces off against the Arcana Hietrophant and Lovers at Love Hotel, where it preys on couples. During the Yakushima trip, SEES meets the last Anti-Shadow Suppressant Weapon, Aigis, who has been re-activated on her own to find Makoto/Kotone. Aigis decides to join SEES mainly to be by Makoto/Kotone’s side. In the fifth operation, SEES encounters two Strega members who want to stop them from defeating Shadows, who appear every full moon. They trapped them inside the secret underground military base, where they still continued with their mission to defeat Arcana Chariot and Arcana Justice. In August, SEES gains two new members, Koromaru and Ken.
On September 2nd, Akihiko and Makoto/Kotone try to persuade Shinjiro to rejoin SEES. This time, he mentions Ken joining SEES, and Shinjiro decides to join the group again. During the sixth operation, the team identified a shadow near Paulownia Mall, but Fuuka had trouble finding its exact location. Apart from that, Ken tells SEES that Junpei seems to need to be included; Fuuka remarks that she doesn't detect him nearby, but by request of Ikutsuki, does not try to search further. The team goes to Paulownia Mall, and Fuuka begins scanning the place and finds the Shadow in the wiring room of Club Escapade after Shinjiro remembers that Rise Kujikawa's gig in the club was canceled due to a malfunctioning power supply. The team heads out to confront and successfully defeat it. Fuuka finds Junpei’s location, where Chidori, another member of Strega, holds him captive. After the group found them, they saved Junpei and captured Chidori.
On the seventh operation, on October 4th, Ken and Shinjiro abandoned the mission for their reason. The group defeated Arcana Strength and Fortune at Iwatodai Station. When Akihiko realizes what today is, he separates from the group to find Ken and Shinjiro. After they got back, Mitsuru realized October 4th was the day Ken’s mother was killed. She tells the others the truth about the tragic incident two years ago. By the time SEES arrived at the back alley of Port Station, Ken was saved, but Shinjiro died from his fatal injuries after he sacrificed himself to protect Ken from Takaya. SEES experienced its first casualty of losing one of its members.
On the final operation, the group reencounters Takaya and Jin to prevent them from facing the Arcane Hanged Man. They defeat them, and Jin takes Takya and jumps off Moonlight Bridge. Then, they face the Arcada Hanged Man and beat it. The following day, they thought they had managed to get rid of the Dark Hour and Tartarus after taking out the last full moon Shadows, but the Dark Hour struck at midnight. They were deceived and betrayed by Ikutsuki; the real purpose for defeating all Shadows was to bring the Fall. He controlled Aigis to incapacitate SEES (except Koromaru) and had them crucified. Ikutsuki's plan failed to kill them as sacrifices when Aigis managed to resist to free them instead. Koromaru snatched Ikutsuki's remote from controlling Aigis again.
On December 2nd, Ryoji regains all of his memories from ten years ago, including his identity as Death, to everyone at Moonlight Bridge. He gives them a choice to kill him to prevent the Fall from being delayed, and he will wait for their answers at the end of the year. This makes everyone distant towards Makoto/Kotone, who has carried Death for ten years.
In Good Ending, everyone is relieved to see Ryoji alive since Makoto/Kotone spared his life. He informs them where they can fight Nyx, which is January 31st. They are determined to defeat Nyx even though it's an impossible fight. In SEES' final confrontation with Nyx, specifically Nyx Avatar, the bonds he/she has forged with SEES and his other friends give him the power to fight the sorrow, depression, and apathy of humankind, which were what drew Nyx to Earth, letting him/her create the final arcana, the Universe Arcana with the help of Igor. With the power of the Universe and the cheering of his/her comrades, he/she ascends to Nyx's actual body, the moon, to combat Nyx itself in a one-on-one battle. After being downed and uplifted multiple times by the SEES members' prayers and Nyx's attacks, he/she eventually reaches his/her full potential and performs the Great Seal to seal Nyx, preventing the Fall miraculously.
After the battle, Ryoji's voice is heard congratulating SEES. Ryoji claims Makoto/Kotone has "found the answer to life's greatest question." As the Dark Hour and Tartarus disappear, Makoto/Kotone is seen returning with a faint smile.
On Graduation Day, everyone regained their memories of the Dark Hour and the promise they made, which was to be reunited with Makoto/Kotone and Aigis on the rooftop.
Portable[]
Kotone's route is nearly identical to her counterpart's, except that Kotone is much closer to SEES members, as she also has male SEES members on her social links. If Shinjiro's Social Links are maxed before October 4th, his life will be saved, except he will remain comatose for the rest of the game.
The Reload[]
After the third operation, Ikutsuki came up with the idea for SEES. He gave them proper battle gear and weapons to battle the stronger Shadows they would face in upcoming battles.
The Answer[]
The former members of SEES reformed once more to find a way out and investigated the Abyss of Time. Metis joined the group, and Aigis awakened to Makoto’s Wild Card ability.
After they defeated an entity created by SEES's negative emotions from being unable to accept Makoto's death, the group fell apart when they argued over their uses for the keys. Aigis, Metis, and Fuuka were forced to fight against their friends. After Aigis defeated all of SEES's members, she used her the true key to return to find the truth about Makoto's death. They found out Makoto sacrificed himself by performing the Great Seal to seal away Nyx. They fought against Erebus, who attempted to pull out Makoto's body, guarding Nyx forcefully. After the group defeats it, they can return to the real world and accept Makoto's death. Afterwards, SEES is officially disbanded.
Fanon[]
Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad is one of the beloved friendships in the Persona franchise. They enjoy their strong bond with one another and are shown to be willing to sacrifice themselves for their friends. Fans of this friendship enjoy the way in which the students friendships with each other grow organically over the course of the game. However, some other fans have argued that the cast of Persona 3 feel more like "coworkers" than friends, especially when in comparison to the Investigation Team in Persona 4.

- Investigation Team and Phantom Thieves are the Persona 4 and Persona 5 equivalents of this ship, respectively.
- This is one of the few organizations to lose two members.
- This is also the only group that has created a new organization with former members of SEES instead of keeping the group active. It is presumably because they don't want to anyone to replace Makoto as team leader.
