Games[]

Michael Afton is the oldest child of William Afton, one of the co-founders and owners of Fazbear Entertainment.

Sister Location[]

Before the events of the game, William sends Michael to free his sister's soul from Circus Baby, by putting her back together. Ennard ends up scooping Michael and using his body as an escape, though Michael lives on after the fact. Michael speaks to his father, telling him that he was successful, and that the Funtime Animatronics mistook him for William. He continues that he should be dead, but he's not. Michael ends his monologue ominously saying that the only thing left for him to do now is come find William, presumably to kill him. Once Michael's monologue is over, Springtrap can be seen emerging from the ruins of Fazbear's Fright.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator[]

Michael is the protagonist of the game and manages a Freddy Fazbear's pizzeria. William, as Scraptrap, appears as one of the animatronics Michael can salvage. If he does, Scraptrap becomes one of the roaming animatronics Michael must keep away during office gameplay. At the end of the game, William's former partner Henry Emily burns down the pizzeria, freeing the trapped souls and ending William's life for good. Michael also chooses to stay behind and let himself die in the fire.

Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)[]

William offering Mike a part-time job as night guard

After Mike gets fired from his job at the mall, he goes to talk with Steve Raglan. The two sit opposite each other in Steve's office. Steve, who is William acting as a career counselor, looks at Mike's files and talks about how Mike can't keep his job. During this he also asks if Mike's some type of nutcase, since Mike beat up a kid's dad in in front of his kid. Mike says that that was a misunderstanding. William also mentions that it is like Mike is not even trying to keep his job and that he yet sits here in need of guidance. William reads out Mike's full name, however, he stops as he is about to say Mike's last name and takes a better look at Mike. While this is happening Mike looks confused. After this William stands up and asks if Mike wants coffee, Mike declined it, William than mentions that he does not have a lot of options for Mike. To this Mike's gets up from his chair and is about to leave, but William stops him and urges him to sit down. William than mentions that he has something, Mike's says that he is willing to do anything and asks about how the pay is. William responds with that the pay is not great and that the hours are worse. Mike says he can't do night, to which William says that a shame. Mike gets up from his chair and thanks William. Just as he is about to leave, William stops him and gives him a business card in case he changes his mind about the job.

Later Mike is sitting at home at a table and is holding the card he got from William, he looks over at Abby and then back at the card. Mike goes on to call William and asks if the job he had was still available. William during this phone call calls Mike "Mister can't do nights" and tells him that the job for sure is still available. After this William is heard on the phone explaining things about the job and building itself, while Mike is seen entering the building and making his way to the office.

After Mike was saved by Vanessa during night five, Vanessa told him that William is her father and that he was one that killed the missing children, including his younger brother Garrett. Mike gets ready to go back to the location to save Abby, he also asks Vanessa to come with. Vanessa declines since she thinks that she will just be in the way and says that he knows that Mike will come. Mike enters the Location and goes on to try and save Abby, eventually Abby is hiding elsewhere and Mike is near the Entrance of the Building. This is when William as the yellow rabbit appears, which freaks out Mike. William says something to Mike, Mike as response proceeds to use the taser on William which failed. William in responds removes the taser stuff and proceeds to beat up Mike. When Mike is laying on the floor, William mentions that Abby will love it here. Shortly after he said "First I killed you brother now I kill you. It's Symmetry my friend". With Mike still laying on the floor, William calls out the children and says that they have a new plaything. Shortly After Mike gets saved by Vanessa, after this Mike tells Abby to let her friends know what William did to them. Since William was distracted by Vanessa, Mike made his way to turn on the power to light up Abby's drawing. A little bit later William gets springlocked and dragged away, while Mike and Abby first look at what was happening to William and then left the building with Vanessa.

FNAF fans are well aware of the antagonizing relationship between William and Michael Afton, one of the main father and son characters of the franchise. With William blaming his oldest child for the death of his youngest son, while Michael strongly disagrees with his father's killing spree and seeks to stop him. Knowing that he is partly to blame for his father's actions and wants to make amends for a past mistake, that started the madness affecting anything related to Freddy's Pizza.

Those don't want to believe that teenage Michael was a terrible person, from the way he treated his brother, believe it could have been due to Michael feeling neglected by his father. Due to William throwing himself into his work than spending it with his family, and the fact that teens in Michael's position tend to act out. This got fans to wonder if Michael ever blamed Freddy's for taking much of his father's time, before the tragedy that changed everything for them, turning the attention Michael might have wanted from his father into hate.

With William always finds ways to come back through his Springtrap persona and Help Wanted showed him using others to ensure his return, along with the fact that Elizabeth Afton's soul resides in Circus Baby and there being theories of the Crying Child's soul possibly possessing the Golden Freddy, it has led to the theory of Michael's spirit finding away to lack onto Glamrock Freddy; after another Fazbear establishment was build over the one both father and son died in. Glamrock Freddy saying that "I'm not me" before Burntrap shows up, along with one of the Security Breach endings having Freddy start a fire to burn down Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex helps to support this theory. With Michael dying in an attempt to ensure that his father's twisted soul remains in hell, so he wouldn't harm anyone else, it makes sense that he too would return to ensure it remains that way.

Those who believe that Michael survived the fire, however, assume that he has dedicated his life to fighting against his father. Each time Springtrap finds ways to return, Michael allies himself with those who have a history with Freddy's; and would also want to keep the source of its evil sealed away. Like he did with Henry.

With "Mike Schmidt" being one of Michael's aliases in the game franchise and how Michael Schmidt is the 2023 film version of Michael Afton, it got FNAF fans to wonder about William Afton's film counterpart and his connection to Mike. With film Michael being shown to have different parents in the dream flashbacks and the film having William as Vanessa Shelly's father, along with the fact Afton was the man who kidnapped and killed Mike's little brother. These additional change in details got people to wonder if the two aren't related in the film's universe, and if they are fans hope that the rumoured sequel would answer their questions on the subject.
