SquEnix Boys is the friendship between Cloud Strife, the Luminary, Sephiroth and Sora from the Super Smash Bros. fandom.

Canon[]

Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts were all developed by Square Enix. All four of these characters are also sword fighters and all of their games are JRPGs.

In Sephiroth's reveal trailer, "The One-Winged Angel!", Cloud and Erdrick are shown fighting Galeem with the other fighters, only for a slash to split Galeem in half. The fighters are all in shock, but any relief they feel is immediately ruined by the familiar chords of a certain character's theme playing. Cloud recognizes his enemy right away and whispers Sephiroth's name, to which Sephiroth smugly replies that he'd been waiting for this moment for a long time. He's prepared to take on all of them at once to "give Smash despair". He is then shown using Scintilla against the Luminary. After Sephiroth effortlessly fights off any attackers and nearly impales Mario, Cloud himself locks Sephiroth into a sword battle to prevent him from attacking anyone else. After using Omni Slash against Sephiroth, Cloud tells him to stay in his memories, where he belongs. Sephiroth in turn activates his own Final Smash, One-Winged Angel and tells him that he will never be a memory.

In Sora's reveal trailer, "The Last Key", all of the fighters stand in front of the burning Smash logo as the light goes out. The light was what gave them life, so all of them (Cloud, the Hero and Sephiroth included), turn into lifeless trophies. However, Mario is reawakened by the last remaining burst of fire and grabs into it, throwing it into the horizon, which turns it into a Keyblade. The Keyblade opens a Keyhole, which emits light that brings a few fighters back to life, including Cloud. Sora floats out of the Keyhole, and he flies like Peter Pan while greeting the fighters with a friendly smile and a laugh. In his moveset demonstration, Sora attacks Sephiroth with fireballs. He then positions himself behind Cloud and strikes a pose. He defeats Sephiroth with only a few strikes of his Keyblade. Then, having effectively become the new Lifelight, Sora shakes hands with Mario as all the fighters cheer.

Due to their shared origins, it is fairly easy to depict the four Square Enix characters as a friend group. The Hero/Luminary is sometimes ignored in favor of the established Cloud, Sora and Sephiroth dynamic. Due to looking about the same age, Sora and Luminary are sometimes seen as friends, which is ironic since Kingdom Hearts fans did not care for the Hero getting in the game before Sora did.
