Canon[]
Battle for BFDI[]
During the quiz show, Stapy and Match's teams end up being the last ones remaining. When Stapy answers the final question after replacing iance's buzzer with a fake one, Donut briefly puts Match's team up for elimination. She refuses to accept the outcome and shows footage of Stapy's team cheating, leaving Donut to change his mind.
While in the EXIT trying to escape from Four, Stapy tries to build a stack to escape but almost slips. Match suggests that he's too heavy to keep himself balanced and calls him fat, which Pencil agrees with.
The Power of Two[]
After Stapy wonders whether they should leave the EXIT by using the back door, an alarm blares and Match figures they should just go if they're going to. The rest of the EXITors, except for Roboty, end up following them out.
When the EXITors decide to split up to try and find a way out, Pencil puts Liy, Stapy and Match together to go towards the waterfall. Match is hesitant at first, unwilling to split up from Pencil, although Pencil insists that Liy and Stapy need her. Liy welcomes Match to the group as the two ride Stapy to the waterfall.
Once at the waterfall when they find a nearby fortress nearby, Match is unsure of how they'll get over there. Stapy suggests that they could swim up the inverted waterfall and let Liy and Match carry him across once they're up. As he realizes they can't breathe underwater, Liy decides to throw Match into the inverted waterfall to see if she can. Match ends up falling off the side of the waterfall when trying to grasp for air, making Liy try throwing her again. After multiple attempts, Match screams for her to stop as Stapy wishes that Match could breathe underwater. Liy is about to try again as Stapy reminds the two that the fortress must have something important inside. Match later tries launching Stapy's staples at the waterfall. When the staples end up falling off the waterfall from up high, the three scream and duck for cover as they come falling down. The three then try drinking the waterfall water and end up spitting it back out.
After various repeated attempts, Match complains about how long it's taken them and Liy and Stapy agree when she compares it to the Tiny Loser Chamber being better. She decides to wing it as she tells Stapy and Liy to climb up and hold their breaths even if they end up dying. When Stapy starts to drown, Liy and Match hold him to the outside of the waterfall for a chance to catch some air. Stapy does the same for Match when she starts losing air and they do the same for Liy as well. They repeat this pattern until the three finally end up on the roof of the waterfall, with Match and Liy grabbing on to the roof and Stapy holding onto the two's legs. However, Match's legs hurt from holding onto Stapy's staples and he ends up causing the two to lose grip of the roof. Later after the three make it to the top again, Match, Liy, and Stapy drop from the roof once they reach to where the fortress is. After Stapy cushions Match and Liy's fall, he calls for a group hug and accidentally knocks Match off the edge of the fortress. Stapy apologizes as he and Liy jump off as well to rescue Match. The three end up making it to the fortress again and Match warns Stapy not to knock her off again. As Match mentions how he hindered his own team before he got eliminated, Stapy swears none of it was intentional. After being told by Liy not to trick them, Stapy warns the two that the fortress could be full of traps. Match shushes him, thinking that it only applies to the fortresses in movies, and orders Stapy to take them inside. The three find armor inside the fortress and Liy tells Stapy and Match that it'll be a good idea to gear up incase they encounter Four. However, as Stapy leaps up to get it, they fall through a hole that was being covered up by the carpet in front of the armor, proving Stapy's point of there being traps inside.
After falling, Match calls Stapy a hero when he uses Liy's switch to light up the underground. Stapy and Liy find a set of keys in the room which Match quickly grabs, activating a trap that closes in the walls on them. Match apologizes as Stapy yells at her for not thinking. As Stapy and Liy try to push the walls back, Match decides to take a break by trying to rest. Stapy rips off her eye mask, making Match angry about being unable to sleep. She takes Stapy and launches his staples towards the wall, allowing her and Liy to climb up out of the hole. After climbing out, Match thinks that Stapy won't make it and wishes him farewell, although Stapy urges them to help him. However, after Liy encourages him to break through the walls, Match is supportive that he can be able to. Stapy successfully pushes the walls back as Liy and Match congratulate him, although Match admits that she thought he was going to die at first. When Stapy points out that the walls retracting caused a secret door to become visible, Match and Liy head back down to check it out. Match uses one of the keys from her key set to unlock it as Stapy and Liy cheer.
On the other side of the door, the three find various cells containing armor. Match is excited and calls for them to keep searching through the other cells as they grab what they can to later stack up out of the EXIT. After going through all the cells, Stapy lays down his pile of gear for Liy and Match to climb out of the hole with. However, once they climb up, Four finds them and demands that they return to his classroom. Match, Stapy, and Liy gear up with the armor they found earlier and the three start a fight against him. Liy uses Match as a sword and Stapy boosts the two up when Four tries zapping a laser at them. After Four tries to charge his horse at them, Stapy launches Liy and Match towards him. This causes Four to get flung away, allowing for the three to grab their gear for the stack.
The three, with the gear they found from underground tied to their backs, climb back up and make their way to the classroom with the rest of the EXITors. After successfully escaping from inside Four, the EXITors are instead given new jobs as cooks for Two's hotel. Match starts panicking and imagines the walls closing in on her again as Stapy comforts her.
Fanon[]
Stapmatch is a rarepair in the Battle for Dream Island fandom. The two are usually paired together because of their shared time in the EXIT together and the following episodes showing them working together with Liy to escape. The rarepair idea had been around since they first were announced in the show as a group, with the following episode focusing on them giving great expansion on their dynamic and how they would grow to be friends in the show. The pairing grew within rarepair shippers mainly on Twitter from fans of the two characters, also highlighting the irony that Stapy had once again grown to be friends with another enemy of his best friend Foldy's after previously settling his differences with Liy. Within their EXITor group, the pairing is usually less thought of than their respective ships with Liy, Stapliy and Matchliy. Matchcil and Stapoldy tend to overshadow the ship overall.
