America and Ramone meet when America rescues Ramone after M.O.D.O.K. unleashed kaiju on San Francisco. Ramone demanded her brother make it home safely and was rescued by America. Eventually, the city is saved and America and Ramone start getting closer and even start dating. On their first date, the two of them go to the Santa Monica pier. But their date gets interrupted abruptly when Kate asks for America's help. She apologizes for this, but Ramone reassures her that she knows America has an "extremely weird job."

Ramone and America are now an established couple and as they help Kate Bishop fight gigantic moles, they discuss America going out for dinner with Ramone's family. As the two of them chat while fighting the moles, America falls right out of the sky due to the fact that her powers short-circuited. Extremely worried about her, Ramone and Kate yelled out her name. America has a nightmare about her adoptive family and suddenly wakes up with Ramone taking care of her, by her side. America immediately asks about the moles, about Kate and if everyone is safe. So Ramone reassures her that they're all fine and that what matters now is her. America goes to the roof as Ramone follows her, and she opens about her sudden loss of powers. But when she receives notice that her adoptive family is in danger, America goes out to the place, leaving Ramone behind, worried for her.
After America confronts her sister and rescues Berto and the girls, she comes back to reunite with Ramone. There, she opens up about everything. She tells Ramone all about her backstory and her birth family, as well as her adoptive one. America then apologizes for dumping all that information upon Ramone. But she's as understanding and supporting as always. Getting closer to America and resting her forehead against hers, she tells her she understands why she didn't share all of this with her sooner. Before the two of them amicably split to allow America sometime to heal from what happened with her powers, Ramone tells her she'll miss her but that America really needs this time to focus on herself and her family. All of a sudden, America kisses Ramone passionately and thanks her for everything.

Starsurf is a rare pair in the Marvel fandom. Despite the fact that it's a canon femslash ship, it's often overshadowed by America's most popular ship, Amerikate. However, this ship has been celebrated and beloved by LGBT+ fans, specially POC LGBT+ fans for its representation of a POC lesbian couple.
