StaticJoy is the het ship between Vox and Katie Killjoy from the Hazbin Hotel fandom.
Canon[]
Katie is the head news anchor and an employee at 666 News Studio and Vox is her boss, with him owning a large part of Hell's media. Vox is shown to have a framed promo poster of Katie with Tom in his office, beside the other framed posters of himself and his fellow Vees. Throughout the second season Katie acts as Vox's loyal and supportive alley within the news network, by speaking about him in a positive light and gets Hell to favor him over Charlie. Katie is also shown to have one-sided attraction for Vox, and empresses this attraction for him during the broadcasts.
Season 2[]
New Pentious[]
The two have their first interaction in this episode, upon seeing the latest news article from 666 News, Vox storms into the studio to scold Katie for its positivity and suggests changes to spin the story to be against the hotel. From the moment he enters the room, Katie immediately expresses interest in Vox and makes multiple suggestive propositions towards him during their interactions, to which he responds with disinterest and annoyance. In the next story Katie reports, she follows Vox's demands by slandering the hotel like Vox wanted her to, while presenting the Vees in a positive light.
It's A Deal[]
Prompted by Vox's slander of the hotel in the previous episode, Charlie goes to 666 News to set the record straight in a live interview with Katie. During this interview, Katie cuts Charlie off when she first mentions Vox bending the truth, making a suggestive comment about wishing Vox would "bend" her and twisting Charlie's words and distracting from her point, knowing that it would hurt his image if she didn't prevent her from exposing Vox and Velvette's lies from the behind-the-scenes show they did in the hotel, along with making sure that Hell sees Charlie as a villain and Vox as someone to be respected. In the bottom scrolling text, Katie has 666 News remind Hell who and what VoxTek owns and why the Vees are better than the hotel. One of the scrolling texts also says "In other news, who is more jacked: Alastor or Vox? The answer is Vox. I'm not sure why it was even a question." Not long after Katie reports the breaking news of Vox and the Vees fighting Alastor, who had agreed to become Vox's prisoner, Vox has Katie take part in his Alastor humiliating tour by having her host a show that has Vox reveal that Alastor doesn't have a tail.
Silenced[]
The episode opens up with Katie announcing Alastor's capture from the previous episode while she hypes Vox up by calling him a "sex-icon" with "strong, chiseled arms" as well as "TV daddy". Katie made sure the story on Vox and Alastor's battle sound like Vox had actually defeated him, rather than Alastor offering himself to be Vox's prisoner, so other demons and overlords would side with Vox for his war upon heaven.
Curtain Call[]
Vox's need to kill Alastor places Katie in danger, as he was prepared to have the Might of Lilith destroy all of Pentagram City and was consumed by power, though this led to Vox having his head torn off his body by Valentino. Sometime after Katie saw the aftermath of Vox's weapon being destroyed safely from afar with Tom, she takes over the news broadcast that was written in ways to direct attention away from the mess that Vox's actions caused, to avoid scandal after his defeat. Along with announcing Valentino taking over VoxTek in Vox's place and Katie spins a story of him being the hero and at the end of the broadcast Katie comments how VoxTek needs a new name, since Vox is no longer her boss. While Vox's fate after going back into the tower with the other Vees is left unknown.
Fanon[]
StaticJoy is one of the rarepairs of the Hazbin Hotel fandom, with it being overshadowed by more popular ships like StaticMoth (on Vox's side) and Trenchjoy (on Katie's). There were a few people who supported StaticJoy before season two aired, while the scene between them in "New Pentious" helped it to grow and got a few people to suspect that it wouldn't be their only interaction in the series.
Katie having been shown to be homophobic in the pilot and again in "It's A Deal", however, has put some people off the ship. With Vox being bisexual like Charlie, who has been a target for Katie's dislike towards those from the queer community, some fans wonder if Katie isn't aware of Vox's sexuality or makes an exception for him, from being her boss and only saying her prejudiced words to those outside of VoxTek. Though another group suspect that Katie's attraction towards Vox could have been her way of getting on his good side, or to give herself a leg up in the studio. Since Katie's final news report in "Curtain Call" subjects that she might have moved her focus onto Valentino.
When Vox's song "Brighter" revealed that he had spent time as a head news anchor himself, it got some fans of the ship to see it as a common link he shares with Katie. Many suspect that Katie has always been involved in the world of news when alive, since some sinners appear to continue on the lines of work they had in life, and Vox appeared to be the kind of person who would have hirer someone with experience in the field he hires them for. Saving time and money that would go in training new employees.
